I chose the sleeve with my surgeon's guidance. I take a lot of meds, and I have a history of inflammatory bowel issues. It's not bothering me now, but could in the future. So, I didn't want malabsorption because of meds, and my surgeon said it would be better to leave my intestines alone. Sometimes there is no one deciding factor if you're young and have no co-morbidities, so it comes down to preference. Do lots of research from sources who have no vested interest in your decision. If you still can't decide, maybe your surgeon would have you lean more in one direction than the other based on your medical history and circumstances. Best wishes on your journey!!

Also just to add, make sure you have ALL the info. Just because your insurance DOES cover the procedure doesn't mean they won't make it a hassle. Most companies make you go through 6 months of supervised dieting via your GP on top of their other requirements. It might end up good that you have almost a year
EDIT: I didn't read through the new posts and realize that someone had already said all of this. Sorry!

I would try taking your PPI before your evening 'meal', for lack of a better term I've tried mine (I take prescription Protonix) at different times of day and found that I do best if I take it midday. PPI aren't like antacids, they don't work instantly to relieve that acid-y feeling, they work longer term to suppress acid production. Good luck and I hope you're feeling better soon!

I was sleeved 5/23/16, and I was on liquids for 2 weeks prior to surgery and 3 weeks post op. I thought I would lose my mind, but I didn't and now I barely remember it. Just keep reminding yourself of the trauma that your stomach went through, and it needs TLC for a bit. It takes a while for swelling to go down. Lots of healing going on. You will get through it, and it's so worth it. Seems like a small bump in the road now that I look back on it. Hang in there; you'll be advancing your diet soon enough. I know it seems like forever!

Wow, another thread missed....but then it is threads like those I avoid...being a Vet, I avoid certain threads, just by their titles...over the years it's been the same old same old...
I don't believe it's my place to give advice to anyone....it's a free world, do what you want to do and I will do the same.
All I can ever do is share my experiences, what I do or have done, and still be 110% successful.
But if it is good for anyone else is any body's guess.
Do I expect people to do what I tell them to do? Of course not! And I have done a lot of things with this WLS that are probably (definitely) against the mainstream way of thinking. (for the newbies I won't mention them)
As far as bacon....I gave up all meat 4 months from surgery, as a direct result of surgery. I have never felt better for doing so, and have won the praises from all my Dr.'s....
Should I advise others here to do the same? Is it the only path to success? NO! Of course not. I can only share what I have done.
On the flipside, I had black coffee 12 hrs after surgery...should I tell people it's ok to do so?? Again, of course not!
Alchohol, popcorn, bacon, straws, carbonated drinks, cakes, Cookies, midnight Snacks, etc, etc...the list goes on and on...it was here 6 years ago, and it will be here 6 years from now....
Do my feelings get hurt? No...Do I get tired and loathe such posts...Yes.
BTW, there was a forum just for "Vet's"...didn't work out well IMO, even Vet's can't agree on everything...it's a free world.
You know what they say about opinions...eveybody's got one.
I've said it before...people here come and go all the time, everyday.....people who were here when I joined, are all long gone...
I stick around for the entertainment mostly.

I would definately eat very little. Tiny portions and make sure to chew it up very well. You will be lucky if you can get two bites of chicken down. I was warned to stay away from starches also as it would hinder weight loss. Replace with cauliflower and mash that up...it is almost like potatoes..especially if you put butter & cheese with it.

@@Ruby81 If you're looking to lose the need for insulin, NOT eating potatoes would be a good start. They're such a high-glycemic food.

What do your post-op instructions say you should be eating right now? Your doctor probably anticipated you following those instructions when he/she made the comments about insulin.

I'm on the UK also but not on the NHS. I was given a strict plan to follow. Trust me....it's worth following it to the letter. I know it's difficult and at times you want certain foods but it's not worth it if you follow your plan you're less likely to have problems with foods as you go along. I'm 6 months post op now and can eat anything I want. I have carbs, fats etc. But in small portions. The drinking rule is also for the following reason....drinking too soon before a meal can fill you up so you can't get your calories in with food. Drinking within half an hour after will wash the food out of the stomach too quickly so you will get hungry after. If you need any help message me. I was given loads of post op info but I found a great food plan on St George's trust website. Google it. It really helps. Just take it slowly. The food stages pass quicker than you think. Don't give in to head hunger. It may slow down your weight loss x

My stomach didn't hurt. My incisions had minimal pain; like @@higher I just felt soreness, really. The larger incision where they took out my stomach was the only one that really hurt at all. I am one of the unlucky ones who had a good bit of nausea, though. I never threw up, but I wanted to at times. But they have really good meds to turn that around if you have it. Mine kind of held on for a while, but it got better each day. I had to experiment with temperature to be able to get my Water down. I had to drink it not as cold as I like for the first couple of weeks, since the ice cold Water made the nausea come around. Happily, I am back to my beloved ice-water. I had better luck with broth right after my surgery; the Protein drinks were too sweet at first. I also hated the Protein powder that I had used with great success prior to surgery. My tastes changed somewhat after surgery. I no longer like bacon, which surprised me a little. I love melon of all kinds now, and i never really did before. Everyone is different, but these are a few of my experiences. Walk as much as you can as soon as you can--that's one thing that holds true for everyone. It will help your soreness and the gas. Plus it helps prevent blood clots. Best wishes, and don't be too nervous. You can do it!

Somebody will be along in a few minutes to tell you they spent two years taking bariatric support classes......learning all they could......then had the surgery now barely 8 weeks out they'll tell you it was a mistake, yada yada.
Give that whatever credit you deem appropriate........and then listen to the vast majority of people who've had VSG surgeries.
I think you'll conclude that most don't even have the stomach ache you mentioned. Just a bit of tenderness around the tiny sutures is all. Most are off all pain meds in a day or so.
I was shocked at my low pain level. The only discomfort I had was from an abdominal hernia repair that was done with my sleeve surgery.
Pleasantly surprised at the low pain level and fast recovery.
To read some of the reports around here you'd think folks had been eviscerated by fire-breathing dragons.........get past those and read the opinions of the majority.......
