Just be honest. They're there to help make sure you're ready (which is a good thing). They'll ask about your medical, social and behavior health history. They will talk about your weight history, diet attempts, etc. Alot of questions to make sure you understand the surgery (before, during and after). You can also ask them questions if you have any. Many will give you some info on emotional eating, etc. It's not as bad as you might expect.

They will ask about your medical history, weight loss attempts and really just make sure you understand the lifestyle change you will have to make to be successful. I was nervous too but it wasn't bad at all! Good luck! :-)

Heatgirl03 got a reaction from OKCPirate in Advice from ex smokers?
I'm going through the same thing! My surgery may not be until December/January but I am going to invest in the E cigarette (no nicotine) to see how well I do with that. All of my co workers smoke so I'm definitely going to try my hardest to stay away from the outside until I get the E cigarette. It's a very hard thing to do and I wish you the best of luck!!!

I just quit a few days ago on chantix. Still want a cigarette but I'm not going nuts for one no physical craving really, it's just the ritual of smoking that I'm missing, going outside, having those five minutes away from the world all to myself while smoking was my favorite. But here I am 2 days smoke free

Heatgirl03 reacted to Alex Brecher in Please Read: Keep BariatricPal a Safe Place
I started the BariatricPal forums to create a safe place for everyone in the weight loss surgery community. It is for pre-op and post-op patients, for patients of all types of WLS, and for anyone who supports the WLS community. I want you to be able to come here for advice, encouragement, support, and information without worrying about being judged.
I have a zero-tolerance policy for rudeness, and you can see the guidelines in the Forum Rules.
Recently, there have been several instances of members being disrespectful or downright rude. Examples include:
Stating or implying that a poster is doomed to failure or not ready for WLS because he or she asked a certain question or is engaged in a certain behavior. Telling people that your way is the only way, and any other way means the member deserves WLS failure. Discriminating against “newbies,” such as letting a newbie know that you don’t think he or she will succeed, or asking only “vets” to reply to a certain thread. (Reminder: you can always choose not to follow the advice of someone you deem unqualified to give it). The vast majority of BariatricPal members do a phenomenal job making BariatricPal the warm, friendly community that I dreamed of when I started it. Thank you! Besides being sure to be polite and respectful, here are some additional ways to help.
If you see an offensive post, please consider the following.
You do not need to respond. Instead of giving a rude answer and escalating the situation, you can simply choose not to answer. You can report the post by clicking on the “Report” option under the post. A forum moderator will look into the situation and may delete the post or ban the member if the member continues to post inappropriately. You can send the member a private message explaining that you felt the post was inappropriate, and explaining why. In many cases, you may be surprised that the member did not even realize he or she was being rude. Please also think twice before you respond to any questions or other posts. It is possible that you could write a post that is genuinely meant to be helpful, but the person could accidentally interpret your post the wrong way. Try to remember that:
It is very difficult to communicate a specific tone in writing. You may write something that you think is helpful and understanding, while someone reading it might take it as bossy or judgmental. Emoticons such as smiley faces can help. You can also add a sentence to explain that you are only offering a suggestion or sharing your own experience and that you are not trying to judge the OP. The OP might be in a vulnerable situation. They may be panicking about a worrisome symptom. They may be in turmoil about whether to get WLS. They may be freaking out about a stall. When they’re upset, it’s easier for them to misinterpret your well-meaning post. Thank you for doing your best to keep the environment at BariatricPal positive, encouraging, and open. We all need a place to go for help and support, and I want the entire weight loss surgery to feel comfortable using BariatricPal for advice and encouragement.

Thankfully they scheduled for me to take my nicotine test at the end of month 2 out of my 6 months. I smoked month 3-5 but I stopped because I'm scared of being retested by my surgeon right before surgery. I don't have an addiction though so I could stop cold turkey if need be

Chantix really helped me when I quit (it was about 8 years ago). It just helped make the cigarette taste like a cigarette. Within a few days, I'd quit for good. I'm not sure the vaping would have worked for me as a big part of it was letting go of my little habits around smoking. But, in the end, whatever works, right?!

I also quit using a vape pen. It is not for everyone. My surgeon said 2 months nicotine free. He does a urine test as well. He didn't specify how I should quit, just that I do.so far I am doing well. No nicotine for at least 2 weeks now.

I'm 295 and I choose sleeve because it seemed less invasive. Nothing had to be rearranged they're only taking so thing out. You also have dumping syndrome. With any WLS its possible but it's extremely common in a Bypass

I don't like the liquid vapors and found mark10 at speedway and it has been my life saver. It's not the same but it really helps

Today, I got to meet my surgeon for consultation! I will be having the surgery within the next 3 to 4 months. Three nutrition consults, One psych evaluation, meet with physical therapy and attend a support group. I can't believe WLS is going to be my reality! I can't wait to share my story with all of my new friends here.

Our employees can utilize FMLA PAID (where they use their PTO but it counts toward FMLA) or FMLA UNPAID (which they use after 7 days) and then they revert to Short Term Disability. They are required to use 7 days of their PTO first though before STD kicks in. They are offered FMLA after 3 days medical leave but they are not required to accept it.

The best advice I can give is to focus on what you can have, not what you can't.

Make sure you do fmla. It will protect your job if something goes wrong and you need to be off work for a longer period of time. Minimum days off is 3 for the medical reason to qualify. The doc will need to fill out paperwork

You can get a letter from surgeon if required for your sick leave but that would be highly unusual and I don't think you would have to include details of what surgery.
Fmla only comes in if you have no leave available to use. That means you have no vaca or sick but use Fmla to keep job. And do leave without pay. It would be unusual unless you are hourly with no leave available.
Be careful with gal bladder excuse because you might have that actually happen. You can have more than one hernia but only one gal bladder emergency!
