Congrats! Your surgery experience sounded very much like my own. The surgery went well, no complications, minimal pain. It's common too that you feel very emotional the first month or so. All of this will fade in time as you get stronger and the weight starts dropping.
The food commercials bothered me too initially. But honestly now at 14 months out, they kind of repulse me. The cravings are pretty much nonexistent now too. The longer out you get the better you will feel. Use this golden time of rapid weight to your benefit. The sooner you adopt a healthy food and exercise lifestyle the easier it will be. Rest and allow your body the time it needs. Stay as hydrated as you can too.
Congrats again on making it to the other side. You're gonna love it!

I guess I should now be over on the POST gb forum, but I wanted to post this here so that people about to get the surgery know what it might be like.
I was sooo nervous and sooo emotional! I had no IDEA how much of a hold, food has over me! Since I use it to cope, I've been crying a lot lately. I really need to get some psychiatric help so that I can find a healthy outlet for my emotions instead of using food.< br />Other than that, my surgery went amazing! I was in there for 3 and a half hours. It was done laparoscopically and it took so long because I have a LOT of scar tissue in that area from previous surgeries.
I woke up in hardly any pain and never really HAD any pain at all, except for the gas. The gas is what hurt the most. So on the second day, I was up and walking the halls, doing about 4 trips around the two nursing stations and other rooms in the center in an hour.
I was released yesterday and love being home! Things are just like they used to be, except I can't pick up and hold my cat, he's too heavy. I can't vacuum and do most of the chores I used to do but I can wash the dishes and keep the kitchen looking nice. Also, I have to be up and walking every hour too! I only walk for about 5 minutes because I'm not used to exercise and it hurts my legs and back really bad. But I will build that up to 10 minutes in no time.
So all in all, it went great! Hardly any pain and no more hunger! Oh, although! When I see some commercials (and I cannot BELIEVE how many commercials there are for food!) it makes me REALLY desire them! Even though I'm not hungry, I STILL want them. And that's what scares me and what I need counseling for.
I'm still on the clear liquid diet for another 4 days and then go to full liquids which I can't wait for! Too much sweet stuff (drinks, popsicles and jello) on the clear liquid diet. lol
So I hope this has helped and was good to read for some of you! Good luck!

I'm only on a liquid diet for 24 hours. After surgery I will do the Clear Liquids for three days including the day of surgery. I then will go to full liquids for five days and then puréed food until my post op appointment. That's the way mine is set up.
I can have Protein drinks during my 24 hour liquid diet pre surgery but since I don't really like them I drink protein Water.

You've inspired me! I don't have a surgery date yet, but it's nice to read success stories and also to be reminded that it might not be nice at first and I might even feel regret. But after reading your story, I feel like it will be worth it! Thanks for sharing

For some reason I have seen posts recently that there are docs saying not worry about Protein this early, but that seems so counterintuitive to me. I was given Protein Powder in the hospital and they made me mix with Water and try to get it down (this was less than 24 hours after surgery as I was out in just over 24 hours). So I am with @@James Marusek, I don't see why not, but if your dr has given you specific instructions against that, you might want to wait until you can ask them.

I don't see why not. It sort of kills two birds with one stone. Because you are working towards meeting your Protein and Fluid requirements at the same time.
The only thing to caution is that your body can only absorb so much Protein at one time and that your protein intake must be spread out throughout the day.

You will do great! And good luck. You can make it for three days. I have been on it a week took one day off and now i am back in it for two more weeks. So you will breeze right through three days. Trust me, I did it and I thought I couldn't and was very surprised when I did it and didn't feel actual hunger. Just stick to a schedule and drink those shakes they do fill you up along with the Fiber. Good luck.

my understanding in the purpose of the diet is to prepare your liver, reducing the size of it so that is less likely to be in the way and get nicked. i would definately vocalize your concerns. Sent from my SM-S820L using the BariatricPal App

the pre op diet is more used to shrink the liver than lose weight. unless you are severely overweight (think 500-600 pounds) then you need to lose weight to make the surgery and anesthesia safer. if you are not that heavy then the pre op diet is for liver shrinking so the surgeon doesn't have to manipulate it as much. once you have been approved for surgery then usually your surgeon doesn't require a specific amount of weight loss, they just have to know that you are going to do your part after the surgery. again, ideally if you're following the diet then you should lose weight but the main goal is to shrink the liver. best of luck! i can't even submit to insurance until jan 2017 i have to do the 6 month physician supervised diet first and i just started month 2

I lost five, and stalled for 1/2 year.
The docs at the mayo Clinic were cool with it.
They took my measurements too and could see the changes.
They said everyone is different, not to worry.
    But OK, I worried.
And I said, I've worked so hard,
and done the five damn journals,
    and seen the shrink,
and exercised like a hamster on a wheel,
and I am not loosing weight!
That has happened so many times before.
What if I go ahead and do this and it doesn't work?
And they said, "IT WILL WORK."
    And it did.
