  1. I am 48 years old and in Chapel Hill, have done psych eval and have surgeon appt and other tests on July 14. No insurance waiting period for me, hoping for an August date. Which centers are you all using, and who is your surgeon? I am going through Duke, with Dr. Yoo. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  2. @@Kindle .... I have been reading and posting here for months, and I never ever thought of you as cold hearted. Never. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. @@OKCPirate .... Kids are 20 and 23, off at college and on their own. But funny you mentioned estate planning, BC I was thinking at bare minimum I wanted to get together a will and a living will, just in case. Almost more concerned with living will, don't want to leave my family with a hard decision if things go very badly and I am on life support. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  5. Going to be completely open here. I have done my psych eval, and go for my half-day plus surgeon appt (plus tests) on July 14. That's my 25th wedding anniversary. Husband and I have been living apart since Nov 2015; we moved to anew state 4 years ago and haven't really put roots down deeply here yet, probably BC of our marital issues plus years of caring for a terminally ill family member. So, not a big group of close friends here yet. Husband and I are somewhat friendly, and he wanted to go to my surgeon appt as my support person on July 14, wanted to be with me in hospital during operation and overnight, and wanted me to come back to our house to recuperate post surgery. At first I said sure. But now I realize, being around him too much is not good for me. He sends constant mixed signals, which get my hopes up, and basically is very much invested in being the "good guy" who saves the day. It's who he's always been. But now, it is just too hard to be around him, the constant stress I feel when around him is awful, and I really fear that if he were there as my support through all this, it would just confuse things for me and would break my heart again. So.....do you think it is reasonable for me to do this all alone? I can get rides to and from the hospital. I can stock up on Protein shakes and Jello, have all this at my rented condo, have Water bottles ready, lots of pillows. Is it reasonable I could climb up and down a flight of stairs without assistance, a day post op? Can I shower alone? If need be I could also hire a home health aide to check in once a day? Thoughts based on your experiences immediately post op and in the first 4 weeks? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. @@Fredbear .... Cmon....blogging and videos are "straight up attention whoring", but you writing a book on your experience is not? Two sides of the same communication coin, and nothing wrong with either one. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  9. I am sure this must be out there somewhere, but I can't find it? If you could direct me to s post or site that would be so appreciated. Let's look into the future.....and you get to a maintenance weight of say 150 pounds......would the amount of calories you consume daily be DIFFERENT if you chose RNY vs. Sleeve surgery? Or vice versa? Is there a surgery that allows you to eat a generally higher number of calories in maintenance? How significant is the malabsorption of calories with RNY? Thanks Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Wow. Very interesting! The breastfeeding photo on the home page is compelling to me. It's the idea that....if you wouldn't want to feed this white bread, fatty food to a baby who needs nutrition, then why would you feed it to yourself day after day? Thanks for sharing this! 16. Haunt the Goodwills near wealthy neighborhoods. I am a mosaic artist and am constantly on the hunt for fine china to use in my work.....and the stuff I have found at Goodwills in wealthy areas is completely different from those in modest areas. I have found Lenox, Limoges, Royal Dalton, English Royal Crown Derby..... And that clientele drops off their off-season clothes a lot more often than fine china! 17. The mortality stats I have consistently heard from the Centers of Excellence I considered was 0.2-0.3%.....or 2-3 people per 1000. And they said their rates where that high BC they are the go-to people in my region, and they try and fix other doctor's mistakes. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. So you feel like your food is moving through you much too quickly and causing that pain? It really sounds like you had a lot of poor treatment....can you find a new surgeon to work with? And get a copy of all your medical records from the first surgery to a lawyer? I mean.....the surgeon didn't close you up internally properly after WLS, then later he nicked your intestines causing more problems? That's not ok that lightning struck twice with you and the same surgeon.....you might not be the only one this has happened to Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. That person is one sad soul who can't stand to look in the mirror and face their own obesity issues with the courage to address them either non-surgically or surgically. They are sad, but also unkind. As Maya Angelou said, "When people show you who they are, believe them the first time." Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

  21. I sincerely doubt your surgeon would recommend this to you if he/she didn't think you personally would benefit from it. And I hear a few things here.....you've been twice, never for more than 6 months bc it's too repetitive, there's nothing to talk about, it's awkward so you just don't like it, and you like to do your own thing. If it's repetitive, what is it repetitive about? What keeps coming up repetitively? If there's nothing to talk about, how did you wind up in therapy before for 2 separate efforts? And now you're being recommended to a third try from your surgeon? It becomes awkward for you and you just don't like it.....no one likes anything awkward. That's life. Pushing through it is what you do, not avoid it. The only way out, is through. You like to do your own thing....how has that worked for you -- or for ANY of us here -- in terms of food and weight control issues? Typically if we are all here, we haven't done too well doing things our own way. I don't see what you have to lose by seeing a therapist and really digging in to see what you can learn about yourself. I can't imagine feeling like I had nothing left to learn about myself and how I move through the world. I am not trying to be harsh, I honestly think you should get all the help you can during this huge physical AND psychological transformation. And yes, I do have a bias. I have been in therapy (I am an abuse and trauma survivor), and when I look around at my family, the only truly functional ones are the ones who have faced their problems head on and fiercely through therapy....the ones who rejected therapy and did things their own way, who thought therapy was useless after a few months, who thought they didn't need anyone's help to learn how to change/grow .... they are all either addicted to something, codependent, depressed, or dead by suicide. I know that's harsh to hear, but that has been my crystal clear experience. Very few of us wind up on the operating table just because we thought food was delicious. People are more complex than that, whether we believe it or not. Please consider giving therapy a chance at this time....what harm could it cause to try? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  22. If I were you I would go see a new surgeon ASAP, the very very best place in your region (where other doctors send their problem cases). And I would call a lawyer. But how does your situation relate to your post title of "Metabolism going too fast?" Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  23. And have your family call your bariatric surgeon so they know you are headed to ER. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  24. You really need to call your insurance company and ask, as it is rarely a single answer. Different employers can put in additional requirements, or remove requirements, or they can completely remove bariatric surgery coverage. There can be many different answers to a plan with the same name. Sorry that there's no solid answer. Give them a call, they usually are open on weekends.
