I Have a coworker who is always offering me food, even though I have explained in great excruciating detail my diet restrictions and the lengths I go to plan food for the week.
Also the first picture I posted after losing about 30lbs was after my face started breaking out because of all the crazy hormones from the weight loss. Very first comment is my step-sister freaking out about my face.

My dad drove me to the hospital and waited with me until they called me in for prep. He took off afterwards and came to visit once I had been out of surgery for a few hours.

How is everyone doing? Just had my 4th monthly follow up with the programs APRN. We set a goal for me to be below 300lbs by my six month follow up with the surgeon.
I'm super thrilled with my progress so far. Lots of little NSVs lately, fitting in chairs/cars way easier now, my thighs are starting to look noticeably smaller when sitting down. I had to add notches to my belts the other day.

SilentBotts reacted to Inner Surfer Girl in Surgeon says don't worry about protein
Normally, I would say listen to your surgeon, but since the advice your surgeon is giving you is diametrically opposed to what my surgeon's instructions are I will have to go with your NUT on this one.
Yes, you can get most of your energy needs met by the energy stored in your fat, but that doesn't give you the Protein you need. You need Protein, especially to stay healthy and lose weight, and if you don't get enough to meet your bodies needs your body will slow down your metabolism and draw critical protein needs from your own tissue (think muscles like your heart).
The way my surgeon explained it is if I am not eating enough protein my body interprets the lack of protein as famine and will do everything it can to store energy, not expend it.
My protein goal is at least 100 grams a day. 700 calories is extremely low even if I had a lower protein target.
In my opinion, you need more protein and calories.

SilentBotts got a reaction from OKCPirate in Ok I have to ask...are things going too well? Am I overdoing it?
That was about my experience. I had some pain, the main incision was very tender, the surgeon had a hard time getting the removed portion of my pouch out. Other than that and some Constipation no issues. I was getting all my liquids and meeting my Protein goals the first full day home. Home alone for two weeks, no issues, driving second week.

For the first few weeks I was just drinking constantly almost all day. It would take me about a half hour to finish a Protein shake, I just kept taking sips until it was done. I continued to use Protein shakes as my primary source of Protein until almost month three when I could eat enough food at one time to get my 60g of protein without them.
Premier Protein is great only 11oz with 30g of protein so two of them should be enough to reach goal for most people.

One thing I have so enjoyed about my WLS journey is learning via the odd intimacy that happens at online message boards that people "just like me" (who were overweight / obese and struggled with all the health and social issues that usually come with that condition) actually aren't all *just like me*.
My continuing appreciation for the diversity of obese people and those who are recovering from obesity has expanded my tolerance of those not like me in ways I would not have anticipated.
From obesity's causes to successful maintenance programmes, I've learned over the last few years to STFU (at least sometimes) about what "everyone should do."
This doesn't mean I luuuuv everybody who's had WLS. Nor does it mean I think every approach WLS patients have chosen post-op is wise. And yes, I do think some people who've had WLS are dumbasses. But my observations have taught me that I can't assume my way that worked for me is the *only way* that works.
The value of our approaches and our choices is visible in the results we each obtain. Whatever a WLS patient needs to do to get the results they want is what they should be doing. That includes eating / drinking / exercise / therapy / friends and family / privacy / spiritual and religious ideologies / etc.
(Gee, don't I sound all evolved and s**t!)

SilentBotts got a reaction from becomingmandikaye in Confessions of overeating...
I didn't worry at all about food until I was able to eat enough to get all my Protein from food. While I was on purees and softs I could do about 1/4 to 1/2 cup. I would try to eat one meal a day as food, to get used to eating again and to figure out what foods I could eat. The rest was just Protein shakes.
At about 4 months now I can do about a full cup of food. I'm still planning meals solely around hitting that Protein goal so some meals may be smaller than that and some may be larger. It doesn't worry me too much if there's a little left by the time I get full, if It's just a bite I'll eat it, if it's more I'll set it aside as a snack. I make sure to eat enough to get my protein but I don't push myself to finish it all at once. Since it's all planned out daily anyway even if there's some left over it's not actually extra food.
My surgeon's office actually annoyed me a little in how quickly they wanted me completely off the shakes because I wanted to take my time in increasing portion sizes.

You could cook pretty much anything and just run it through the blender. Cottage and ricotta cheese are also good. I was eating a baked ricotta recipe that was like lasagna without the noodles and meat. I haven't really been eating anything that isn't a Protein food, so during pureeds and softs I didn't do any veggies or cream of wheat type stuff. I leaned pretty heavily on the Protein shakes until I was on solids. I tried some canned Soup in the blender, anything with noodles was pretty miserable. Beef stews where the best. I was also eating scrambled eggs during pureeds, as long as chewed very well and they were a little runny I was fine.

I'm not shy about talking about the surgery at all. For the most part anyone I've talked to has been supportive/curious. It's probably a good bellwether for continuing the relationship. If he has issues with you having had the surgery not sure it's someone you would want to stay with anyway.

SilentBotts got a reaction from KristenLe in How do you get in enough Calories a day?
I'm surprised they gave you a calorie goal. My instructions all revolved around hitting a certain Protein goal, no mention of calorie ranges at all. I imagine if your shooting for somewhere between 60-80g of Protein a day you'll probably hit that 800 calories goal.

I would just have a candid conversation about your surgery and explain only as much as you feel comfortable explaining. If it's a serious or potentially serious relationship, I would think he/she would be very interested in your surgery and your reasons for having it. Anybody worth staying with will be glad to hear more about it. My husband was very supportive and helps me so much with exercise and my food, so it's good to have a support person in your life. Best wishes to you all!

Could be hormones, as we lose weight a lot of hormones get released. My testosterone has been way up. Increased energy, acne, waaaaayyyy more interest in certain extra curricular activities than I've had since I was a teenager. So aside from the acne all good.
