SilentBotts got a reaction from Bufflehead in People are starting to ask me
Unless I know them well enough to know they are going to react in a not great way I've just been telling everyone. I've had really great conversations about it, people seem curious for the most part. A surprising number actually already have friends and family who've had some kind of weight loss surgery.

I had the same problem, I was just hungry all the time, always foraging for food. The difference between then and now is amazing. I have to be careful or I forget to eat.

If you blend it anything is probably going to be tolerated. The sugar free ice cream still might have too many calories to be a good choice, I think it's something like 70 calories for 2g of Protein per service. A yogurt smoothie might work well for you.
The tuna blend looks fine, keep an eye on the amount of mayo and relish you add since those are just extra calories.
Ricotta cheese and cottage cheese are also really good for the pureed stage. There's a recipe floating around for a ricotta bake which is basically a lasagna without noodles that I mostly lived off of during the pureed stage.

Pre-Op I only told a few close friends/co-workers and family. I didn't really spread it around more because I was worried that I wouldn't make it through the six month pre-op checklist or would change my mind. Once it was done I tell anyone who wants to listen to the story. Everyone I've told has been super supportive and it seems like everyone already knows someone else who has had some type of WLS.

I have a feeling that anyone who would be unsupportive about this decision also would have found a way to be unsupportive or nasty about losing weight with a traditional method. So screw 'em.

How is everyone doing? Just had my 4th monthly follow up with the programs APRN. We set a goal for me to be below 300lbs by my six month follow up with the surgeon.
I'm super thrilled with my progress so far. Lots of little NSVs lately, fitting in chairs/cars way easier now, my thighs are starting to look noticeably smaller when sitting down. I had to add notches to my belts the other day.

Look into switching to the under the tongue B12s. B12 is much more effective when it's absorbed directly into the blood stream.

You'll want to just plan your portion sizes and meal times around hitting any Protein or calorie goals your surgeon/NUT gave you. You want to try to stick to three meals a day with no more than one snack, grazing through out the day can lead back to bad eating habits.

A little bounce back is normal. It looks like the issue is more likely your eating habits, another surgery wont change those. I would recommend make an appointment with a nutritionist and to start tracking what you are eating. You definitely want to minimize carbs and sugars. Also make sure you're hitting Protein goals and getting all your Vitamins.

I took Miralax and Colace for about the first month, I still take the Colace now. Walking is the best way to get the gas to clear up. You should try to walk a few times a day.

SilentBotts got a reaction from Pinkberry2 in Does you tummy feel smaller? Shopping list suggestions
I didn't really feel physically different. It was strange once I was able to eat solids, making dinner for the week and thinking "I could eat all of that" Then being completely satisfied by my one cup sized portion.
You'll want to make sure you've got a digital scale, blender, tiny tupperware containers to portion out servings. sugar free Jello, ice pops, and drinks are good to have on hand. If you don't already have one I would get a good 32oz or larger Water bottle, helps with hitting daily liquid goals. Make sure you get your Protein power/shakes.

I agree with every thing Bufflehead said.
Definitely also track your Protein, if you are hitting your goal with just food then you can probably drop one or both of the shakes. Getting all your Protein from food is a good goal in general, and lean protein like fish/poultry/eggs/low fat cheese makes it very easy. The cottage cheese is a great choice. Turkey or chicken sausage is a great alternative to pork sausage. I would also try to limit the number of times you have a snack each day. Snacking can get us back into the habit of grazing which is a really easy way to get around the restriction of the sleeve.

I am almost three months out. I have had pizza and hamburger since surgery. The pizza I had was a super-thin crust pizza and it's just very difficult to get the Protein I need from pizza, especially within my calorie limits, so it's something I avoid. I've had "hamburger" as well, but as you mentioned, it's more like two bites of a burger, and I limit the bun, skip the cheese and mayo. I have even had a chicken wing. I'll tell you that buffalo wings are definitely less appealing when you can't drink anything for 30 minutes afterward. I even had a bite of my kid's dessert once.

The reality for me though, is that I know that I have to focus on getting my Protein in first and if I eat something that is junk, I'm not going to have room in my little tummy for what I really *need* to eat, and it just doesn't seem like a hardship to forego the nacho appetizer or blooming onion. Yes, they might initially look good, but when I actually eat the food I *need* to eat, I feel so satisfied that the crap just isn't even appealing. It's kind of like after Thanksgiving dinner....yes, you love pumpkin pie, and it looks good, but, yeah.....I'm good saying no to that right now.
I think another part is that after the pre-op diet and the restrictions post-surgery, you do start to (hopefully) develop some different food habits. I don't say no to favorite foods, but I do focus on healthier ways to make them and healthier options....which is kind of a big part of the point anyway. A grilled chicken breast "feels" more like a cheeseburger did to me before surgery. Breakfast before surgery would be eggs and toast. Now it's a quarter of a low-carb tortilla, 1.5 T scrambled egg whites and a 1/3 of a serving of turkey sausage - and it has the same feeling to me as a big Breakfast.< /p>
So...the short summary is....you'll be able to eat those things, but hopefully the surgery would be a great tool to help you change your perspective and those favorite foods won't be so important to you?

I have not seen anyone who is perfect at wls. If you make a junk food choice. Put in extra time at the gym. Don't make a habit of it. The goal is healthy.
We are all adults here. What ever choices people make in their weight loss program. Be willing to accept the outcome.

To me, if I can feel the food right under my sternum, that means I overate. Remember, you are not looking for "full" any more, you are looking for satisfied. You don't want to feel stuffed, just no longer hungry (physically hungry, not head-hunger hungry).
I doubt you have stretched your sleeve. To be completely honest, I think that if anything is hindering your weight loss, it is the type of food you are eating, not the amount. Trail mix, chips, rice, toast -- these are high calorie foods that don't offer much in terms of either nutrition or satiety. High carb foods like chips, rice, and toast will just make you hungrier and you will find yourself wanting to eat again a couple of hours after eating them. Things like chicken salad have more nutrition, but if packed with a lot of mayo or Salad Dressing, can be extremely caloric, even in relatively small amounts.
It doesn't look to me like you are eating a lot of lean Protein or green veggies. Those are lower calorie, lower carb, and will keep you full longer. Instead of chicken salad, just have chicken breast. Instead of a sausage patty, have some pork loin. snack on deli meat or asparagus spears, not chips or trail mix. Good luck!

Never had issues drinking fluids. I was doing two shakes with 30g of Protein each for the first few weeks, replacing one then eventually both as I was able to eat more food.
I was able to increase portion sizes about twice as fast as all my meal plan guides told me I would be able to but eventually settled at the 1-1.5 cup portion size that seems to be the norm. It really depends on the food. chicken breast I can do about a cup of, scrambled eggs almost 2 cups.

First week I just made a little nest on the couch with my video game controls, e-book, Water, and pain pills. I was sleeping a lot and took several naps. Getting in and out of bed was interesting, my abs were still super tender so I had to sit, lay on my side and then roll onto my back.
