fsulady got a reaction from LisaMergs in Is a protein bar safe 2.5 months out?
I am trying to find ways to get my Protein in, but the thought of any more shakes makes me gag! I can't eat enough meat, etc in a day to meet my goals.
Has anyone tried Protein Bars at 2 months??

I agree! I am about 3 weeks post op and I still have it....YUCK! It's horrible! No matter how much I drink, brush my teeth, etc it doesn't go away! I didn't think we were allowed to chew gum after sleeve?

Everyone's journey and post op plan is different and we must take that into account. We are here to support each other, not make people feel ignorant for asking a question or to insult people. We all have downfalls, if we didn't we all would not have been in the position to have to have surgery. So instead of offering insults, offer some suggestions or ideas to help get through those tough times. Not everyone is a nutrition expert and I find it funny how many people have their own myths and beliefs about nutrition. As a Registered Dietitian who has had the sleeve, I can honestly say that most people do not have a good idea of what healthy meals or foods would consist of, appropriate portion sizes, or even what macro and micro nutrients are....as an RD I don't make my patients feel foolish, I use it as a baseline to provide education, etc. So I would ask that when we are in these forums we should have patience, empathy, and share positive ideas instead of all this negativity. This is horrible! We are all in the same situation, not one of us is better than the other. It's not a matter of how far post op you are, how much you lost, who ate crackers and who didn't...we ALL were obese at one point and we ALL need to remember that!

It takes up space but also pushes the food thru quicker and you will not absorb the nutrients as well

Not necessarily stupid when some plans allow for PB at the purée phase. We have to remember everyone's plans from the docs are different, in addition, some people get mixed info from docs, support groups, and online posts. So be kind to those who may have what you consider to be a "stupid" question. We are all going thru this process together and it can be overwhelming to say the least.

fsulady got a reaction from Squeek2000 in Registered Dietitian and I was sleeved 7/1!
Hi all! I decided to start sharing my story since I am coming from a totally different perspective than most, I am a registered and licensed dietitian! While I have battled weight all my life and I have all the knowledge I could imagine on eating healthy....I let my mind take over and ignored what was happening to my body. Never in a million years did I think that I would have WLS, but I did! I think the idea of the sleeve and removing the factor of malabsorption as in the bypass helped with my decision. While I was a very healthy obese person, I knew the consequences that would face me later in life if I didn't make a drastic change. In addition, my confidence as a dietitian became nonexistent. I needed to get my mojo back....so here I am 1 week out from surgery and overcoming the hurdles of recovery. I started at 285 pounds before preop diet and as of today I am 249! While my education tells me this can't be healthy, my mind and body know it's a necessity and I will ultimately reach a healthy goal. I love reading all your posts and support! This is truly a journey for all...I joke around that I am going to write a book because I am probably the only Registered Dietitian that had WLS! Lol!

Hi all! I see a lot of chatter about crackers and as a dietitian who has also had the sleeve I would just remind everyone that 15gm of carbs is the same as if eating 1 slice of bread. Typically a serving of carbs has 3gm of Protein but more kcal than if we just ate a lean Protein product. My plan allows for a very small amount of carbs only after I eat the protein. Carbs are needed for energy, but I would select those with a higher Fiber content and minimal carbs per serving.
