Hi all, I recently came across the Weight Loss Surgery Podcast on iTunes, and I have found really interesting and informative.
It's done by a bariatric coordinator and nurse in Oregon, and she has over 70 podcasts up so far....most are over an hour long. She interviews doctors, researchers, bariatric bloggers, psychologists, exercise experts, and patients with a compelling story.
If you are an information junkie like me, or info you can listen to on the go, check it out.
I'll give you a link to this particular episode, which covered the topic of weight set point, the biology of weight, and why bariatric surgery works differently than any other solution. Hope you like it, there's tons to listen to in her archives:

I just use the video editor on youtube, still not an expert and can't do much yet. You don't need to be fancy to start. Just start posting videos and add stuff as you go and as you learn. That is what I see most people do.

That's where I'm at, too. I was just looking for any support and community out there and thought it would be fun to dive in, but I really am a newbie. It looks like YouTube has a lot of cool functionality that I'll explore as I go! If you decide to take the leap, let us know - I'd love to see

It all depends on your insurance requirements and the surgeon that you go to. My insurance company only said 6 month diet but didn't say how much I had to lose but my surgeon's office requires me to lose weight every month and not gain. They look at my food log every month so it has to be the most current food log. Everyone's requirements are different.

Attention whoring is pretty offensive. I feel like many of the video blogs have been very helpful to me and I have been thinking about doing one when I get to the pre-op diet phase.

@@Fredbear .... Cmon....blogging and videos are "straight up attention whoring", but you writing a book on your experience is not?
Two sides of the same communication coin, and nothing wrong with either one.

I decided to have surgery to help me with my weight loss. I went to my first appointment on June 18,2015 and attended my first nutritional class that same day. I weighed in at 464 lbs. I could not believe I weighed that much. I began to exercise and eat healthier. I had to do 12 months of nutritional classes for my insurance. My doctor required a 2 week liquid diet pre op. I had my sleeve on 6/14/16. The day of surgery I weighed in at 371 lbs. That is 93lbs. I lost on my own. The day I was released from the hospital I weighed 379 from all the fluids they were pumping in me. Today makes 2 week post op and I weighed in at 345 lbs. I cannot believe I am down 119 lbs since this journey began. I have an awesome family who encourages and supports me 100%. I WILL SUCCEED!!!!!!!

I don't have any advice. I just wanted to say that we are on the same schedule. I just had my first of 6 appointments on May 23rd. Well actually it is the first of seven because it has to be 6 full months so the first visit doesn't actually count. I am also hoping for a December surgery.

I haven't had surgery yet but I had some mini food funerals before my 6 month supervised weight loss started. I mindfully ate steak, bread and red wine one night, Pasta, bread and red wine another night and the next week had mexican food with lots of nachos and margaritas. I actually didn't eat much more than normal but I just knew that it was the last time I would be able to eat so much food at once. I said good-bye to eating like that forever (well almost forever) I will probably have one more "bad" meal between the end of my 6 month supervised weight loss and the start of my 2 week liquid diet. It helped me now that I am on my 6 month diet because I feel like I said goodbye to that stuff and now I am focused on eating healthy and low carb. So far it has helped me feel less tempted to cheat.

I'm going to say something I've never heard anyone say so I guess I am weird. The only thing I'm not worried about after surgery is the eating and drinking thing. Normally, I actually don't eat and drink at the same time unless it is alcohol or coffee. I drink coffee while eating Breakfast or a dessert. I've been known to go to the movies and eat a whole large tub of popcorn and drink nothing until I am finished and then I only take a few sips. I have always had a problem with feeling full after drinking so I developed a habit at a young age of not drinking so I could eat more. I guess that is one reason why I am fat. I do drink a lot of Water in a day but I drink that outside of my meals.
