@@Alfred Day... That was everything that I needed to hear. I don't have the words exactly, but you hit the heart of this brain chaos and made it make sense. I am really glad that someone with your experience stumbled across my post, thank you.

For anyone interested, I made a Holiday 2016 (November / December surgeries)- VSG group for FB. I was really excited to see that I will be sharing a surgery date with so many on 12/12... makes me feel less alone.

I made a group called "December 2016 Sleevers!" I would love for everyone who has a surgery date in December to join! lets be a great support system for each other and go on this journey to a better us with great friends. Share our success and failures along the way, cheer each other on, wether you already have support from your family and friends or from nobody at all like I've unfortunately seen from some, lets make sure we definitely have each other to lean on! btw they say you normally gain weight around the holidays, are we crazy?! haha

Start my liquid diet on 11/28 also. Surgery is on 12/9. Thanksgiving this year is going to be last real food for a couple of months. More nervous about the unknown factor of how I will do through the early stages. Type 1 diabetic so have hope that this surgery will help in getting this under control.

I've worked in Higher Education for over 25 years so I understand the very real challenge anxiety can have when approaching the end of your studies. I've seen many students have a difficult time finishing up, not because their last courses are that difficult, but the immensity of the transition they are about to go through can become overwhelming. That's over and above the anxiety of an approaching surgery (My surgery date is on Nov. 30, next week and I've had a difficult time concentrating at work).
    Here's my advice:
    1. Start thinking of your finals as one of the preparatory steps for your surgery. If you think of it as another milestone that must be overcome on the way to your date, it might help you from thinking of the surgery as a distraction and more as the end result of your studies.
    2. Take your tasks and break them into smaller, achievable goals. If you know your final is going to cover chapters 11-20, sit with your calendar and put down an hour in which you're going to review each of those chapters before your final. It's easier to think of accomplishing an hour of study, than thinking of focusing on 10 chapters. Between those times give yourself permission to wallow a bit in thinking about the surgery. Reread your literature and any books you might have bought on your way to your decision. Create a packing list for the hospital. Make sure your arrangements to and from the hospital are made in detail.
    3. If you haven't already, plan a celebration for yourself for finishing your degree. Planning some of those details may take your mind off all the what-if scenarios you're playing in your head that you really won't be able to address until the surgery is done.
Good luck on your degree and on your upcoming surgery. This is going to be such a huge and wonderful transition for you!

Mine is scheduled for 12/7....I am also in school and that will be week 7 of an 8 week term. I'm trying to plow through it and just get it all done before I go in. Keeping my mind occupied is the only thing keeping me from just canceling because I'm so nervous!

What it's are nothing else but a pretext for failure. Don't set yourself up. Believe in what will be. I had all those emotions as well. I'm only three days out, but I know that I need to stick to the plan, follow the instructions, these things are tried and true. Believe in your self and continue to see "what will be."

I am looking for others who have a surgery date scheduled on 12/12/2016. I am starting to get nervous, but this has been in the works for over 9 months! Full-sleeve ahead. I am thirty years old, live in the Pacific NW of the US, and have been over 200lbs since I was twelve. I am looking forward to this second chance.

I am relieved that I am not the only person seeking WLS who has come to love and feel beautiful in the body that I inhabit at my largest. I struggle with reconciling my choice to have WLS and my current identity as a fat and confident woman. I don't know how my wife will respond to my skin apron when I am on the other side of this surgery, I know she will love me, but sexual attraction and love are not always the same thing.
Good luck! I hope to keep reading posts from you.

Gah! I use to get responses like that too. The last one was, "I really think you are selling yourself short. You can do this without surgery." Responses like that minimize your struggle and journey. I don't talk about it anymore with people who are not my immediate family or best friends. It's a small group of 6 people on this planet.

FabFatFish got a reaction from Nurse_Lenora in Does anyone own a Fitbit?
I have a used Jawbones and Fitbits. I feel like the Jawbone was more accurate, but the customer service, user-friendly app, and comfort of the Fitbit one. My favorite out of all of the Fitbits I have owned is the FitBit HR (though I leave the HR monitor off, it's not very accurate and is a battery suck.).

I thought for a long time I could do it myself because I would always have success for a while with low carbing. The thing that people who haven't had WLS don't know is that post WLS it is a lot easier to stick to a healthy eating plan because of the lack of hunger and mental/physical disconnect. WLS isn't the easy way out, you still need will power, but if it makes it a lot easier to resist. I would have never imagined a life without feeling hungry and having head hunger rule my life. People just don't get it.
And everyone thinks they are going to be in that magical 5 % that lose weight on their own and keep it off.
I have an associate who told me their Dr told them to consider WLS because their weight keeps fluctuating. They said they didn't want to give up carbs and would rather be fat. You can't help some people.
