JillMB reacted to anitavee in 8 months Post Op and 128 pounds down
Well I can't believe I've made it this far. It was tough for the first 6 weeks and now I can't imagine my life any different than what it is. I went from a size 24 to a size 12 within 8 months. No sagging skin and no regrets. I eat good and live a healthier lifestyle.
Good luck to everyone just starting out!

I went for my one year follow up, and the only thing I'm short on is Vitamin D. It's the winter and Chicago's temperature started out at -8, so I won't be a sun worshipper any time soon. I've been placed on Vitamin D supplements, but everything else looks great.
I just made it down 100 pounds in a year! Attached are the before and after pics of December 20, 2015 to December 20, 2016. Here's to a great 2017!

JillMB reacted to AvaFern in 3wks out tacos?
I had a taco salad at probably a little after 3 weeks out. My doctor told me that as long as I chewed everything very thoroughly, it was fine, and that I should stay away from the hard taco shells. My salad had shredded lettuce, shredded turkey, a tiny bit of low fat sour cream, and pico de gayo. I was allowed to have soft taco, like a burrito, but I don't think I had more than a few bites.
Guess what, I'm 3 years post-op as of this Friday, I hit my goal weight in 18 months and I have been at or under goal for almost another 18 months. Eating tacos, as in the kind where you focus on getting Protein (shredded chicken was better for me when I was on soft food), and where you minimize the junk part, is entirely fine. My surgeon had no problem with me smashing most varieties of foods that I wanted during the soft food phase with the understanding that the sharp taco was a no-go, the sharp lettuce varieties were not great, and no nuts (if anyone puts nuts in their tacos). The version I described, if chewed to a very soft consistency, is fine for soft foods and a regular taco, without the junky parts when you are cleared for regular foods is also entirely fine. You will want to eat maybe 1/3 of the taco and be completely full.
Right now I am eating a fried chicken slider. It is a treat a few times a month and the box comes with two sliders, of which I eat about 2/3 of 1. I also had a pumpkin Spice Latte today (skim milk, regular whip) and later tonight I'm going to probably eat goldfish. You need to do what works for you, not what everyone very sarcastically insists is the only option you have. My blood values are all perfect, I'm at my ideal weight, I have very little difficulty maintaining my weight, and sometimes I eat junk, just like I did the entire time I was losing. It works for me, so it may or may not work for you. One way is not the only way to succeed with this surgery.

I had my surgery April 5 and am still on blood pressure medicine. I have lost just under 75 lbs and my Dr. has adjusted my medication since losing weight. I am definitely in the normal range (112/68) now and when I go back to my PC Dr. in October I will probably not have to take it anymore. I look forward to the day I don't have to take it anymore.

I don't think anyone here said this is okay for YOU. We're sharing our personal experiences. MY PROGRAM and MY DOCTOR allow reintroduction of alcohol at 4 weeks. I'm very gingerly dipping my toes in. I'm not 'cheating' MY PROGRAM.
If we sat down and compared programs side-by-side, I'd find things you're allowed that I'm not, but I'm not having a hissy fit about the fact that you're going to eat or drink those things. I'm 51 damned years old (my son always says 'you're a grown-ass woman'!) and if I, with the support and 'permission' of my surgical team, want to have a couple ounces of wine, I will. YOU clearly should not. We are not the same person. We do not have the same program. We do not have the same restrictions, guidelines, requirements, doctors... Do you get that?
You're very, very insulting when you compare a rational, adult conversation about how to manage an APPROVED real-life situation to moronic behavior like mainlining pop-rocks and coke.
Everyone here is an adult, and I don't think it's outside of the bounds of decency to expect to be treated like the adults we are.

You're losing weight and that's all that matters!
Also you made the decision to have the surgery for you, no one else's opinion matters but yours. And so what if you think you made a mistake? You can't undo it so just set it aside and move on. Plus I've heard regret is normal at this stage.
Good for you on your weight loss!

Yes which is why I said they did ask the question. But your goal weight has nothing to do with whether or not another person needs surgery. This particular individuals BMI was considered obese and they obviously had a surgeon approve their case. A good majority of us could probably have lost weight with diet and exercise

    I have muscles! Who knew!!!!??
I'll be hitting my 10 month post op Gastric Bypass date on July 21st! I can't believe I've lost 114 lbs in 10 short quick months! I am working hard to hit my goal by the one year surgiversary date, but if I don't then I'm not going to be too sad about it..... Cuz how can I be!?
I will say that losing the last 10 pounds are the hardest!
I may not be losing too fast as per the scale now, but I can definitely see a change in my body so I'm totally happy! !!

Your weight loss is fantastic! I anticipated a weight loss of 2 lbs per week....your at 2.5lbs per week. Look at it this way, at 2 lbs per week you'll be down a 100lbs in just about a year...and that's somthing to smile about! So insted of grumbling about "only loosing 16 lbs in 6 weeks"...try shouting out "hey everyone, I've lost 16 lbs in 6 weeks!!!

Gosh.... another...omg you ate carb/sugars/fats... so you will gain 300 pounds and fail your sleeve/bypass/band.... argh i am so sick of hearing this sort of stuff...
I think that it is a very unhealthy approach to eating... there shouldn't be a "never again" food... it should be... i will choose to the best foods for my body, and can have all foods in moderation.
Carbohydrates are important for heath, its just about choosing the right type of carbs..... there is nothing wrong with having carbs from veggies, whole grains and whole foods.... its the highly processed crap thats the problem.
I think NUT are not educating people on the difference between good carbs/fats and bad ones....
This is not a temporary thing, its a lifetime thing... and yes during the active weightloss phase it is better to choose the food that will benefit you.....
But once you are at goal, have learnt new habits, can eat "bad" foods in moderation without binging... then why not!
Avoiding all types of carbs/fats/sugars is not healthy and sustainable long term
    Rant over lol

JillMB reacted to Alex Brecher in Why do some folks try to ruin this forum?
Thanks to everyone who has been contributing to this discussion in a positive way. I am sorry this discussion needs to happen at all. I try very hard to maintain a positive environment at BariatricPal.
I do see the overly frequent negative posts, often by veterans. I understand that veterans may not have had the exact same challenges and questions as the current newbies, or that veterans feel they handled those challenges better and got their “own” answers to their questions. Maybe the veterans have (yep, it’s possible!) forgotten the minute to minute anxieties (“Can I eat this?” “Should I feel this?” “What if I didn’t hit my Protein? ” “Do I need to call my doctor?”) surrounding weight loss surgery. Maybe veterans didn’t have those particular anxieties and questions. Maybe veterans are simply sick of seeing and answering the same questions a million times.
Guess what: you don’t have to answer! Please don’t, if you don’t have a constructive answer to add to the conversation. If you feel a question is “too stupid” for you to answer politely, don’t answer it. You’ll save yourself some time, and you won’t hurt anyone’s feelings. Someone who does feel it’s worth the time to write a helpful, positive answer will get to it eventually.
And I know it’s not just veterans who can be rude. Please, everyone, we are all here for the same reason: to live healthier with whatever support we can get from each other. So what if there are already 105 posts on "can I eat pizza? " If you don't want to answer the 106th post, don't. Don't be rude about it.
Please do report any posts you see as negative or hostile. I won’t tolerate them, and you shouldn’t have to, either.

BINGO! I've actually cut way down on my time spent here for exactly this reason. I'm a lurker but had come to rely on the information I found here. Thank goodness I discovered another group where there is only love and support. It's a support page, not a belittle page.

Okay, enough with the whole Dr. Phil crap. We ask a lot of questions on this forum and get a lot of answers. I have yet to see anyway say "thanks" after being shamed. Yes, you can freely lecture others. You can also fart in a restaurant. Those around you generally feel the same in either case!
In terms of the OP's question:
    1. I'm not sure how big a 6" flatbread is, but it sounds like less than a large slice of bread in terms of carb volume - I think many of us could eat one slice of bread 2 months post opt. We'd be full, but we could get it down.
    2. No two sleeves are the same and men seem to have more capacity than women. I've been topping out at about 8 ounces of dense food since month 3.
    3. You're volume capacity will change from day to day. One day, you find yourself eating a normal skinny girl meal. The next day, you'll feel full after a small yogurt.
    4. I'm an old pizza fan and enjoy a slice or a flatbread every month or so. When I do, I know I'm ingesting a "forbidden fruit", so I savor and contemplate every bite.
To me, the key is logging everything and watching the carb to Protein ratio. I also find that bad days start with too many carbs too early in the day.
    Good luck...

Okay, 1. My doctor allows my 40-60 carbs a day because I train as a wrestler. Your guidelines are yours.
    2. A "boatload" of food for you, you cannot eat that much. But for me, I just did. I do not feel like I'm uncomfortably full, I feel normal. Don't apply your situation to everyone else when giving advice.
    3. Your style of "advice" is not advice, it is condescending. People come here for advice, not to be parented and looked down upon. We are all adults.
    4. I track everything. Calories in, calories out. Macros, and micros. My question was simple in nature. If you thought it was too much, too quick, all you needed to do was leave your last bit. You could hold off on the rest.
    Best,
