mia150 got a reaction from MightyMittenMimi in BMI 31-32
My weight was 195 lbs (I'm 5'5) when I took the surgery, my BMI was around 32.
I noticed the last three years of my life I was gaining NOT loosing and i began to loose control around food
When I started to think about having the surgery EVERYONE was telling me I wasn't that fat and I could loose it on my own, well, you didn't "see the struggle people" of loosing even a pound so why should I listen to you when my guts says go for it girl so I did.
6 weeks later and 20 lbs lighter i am thrilled to say that i am sooo happy with my decision with 0 regrets.
My peogress is soooo slow but who cares, i am not in a race as long as I am loosing (not gaining) over time and it well worth every penny I paid off my pocket.
Good luck to all of you out there who took or planning to take the sleeve surgery.

2-3 oz is about right. I can eat more sometimes but try not to. It's a delicate balance between my tongue wanting more flavor and my stomach having space for it haha. Also, my only challenge is the amount of time spent eating. If I can leisurely eat a meal I'm good - the right amount and no discomfort. But with 3 kids and no time it doesn't happen often. I do eat all the stuff I'm not supposed to haha I have a little rice, potatoes etc. but not everyday and certainly not every meal. shakes keep me on track with nutrients, and multi Vitamins. Hands down. Best.. Decision.. Ever!! I'm a stud again!!! Lolol

Mia150- it is normal for me right now. I was able to eat a little more at one point a few weeks ago, but not now, 2-3 oz of dense Protein is all I can handle. I do eat a few green Beans or a few bites of lettuce/spinach but that's it, I'm full. I still do not eat rice, potatoes or bread and probable never will or will keep it at a minimum after I reach goal. I used to be a carbaholic but now that I've been away from them I feel great and have no cravings. I actually crave fruit and vegetables now =0).
I thought my restriction was due to me not eating much during the week and my stomach not being used to real food therefore making what I do eat very limited but based on my symptoms, maybe you are right, maybe it is stricture. Keep us posted.

3/29 for me. SW 273, CW 216 (57 down yea baby). I am horrible. I eyeball portions, drinks shake a day, take Vitamins, and exercise when I can. I feel great and look great (haha). No issues to report. Drink, eat, etc all without problems. Off all medication already.

March 25th, feeling very good- plenty of energy. SW 214.8 CW 164.4 ( down 50 lbs). I'm having trouble getting my calories in during the week while at work, I'm lucky to get 500. I know it's bad but I still get cramps when I eat so I normally do not eat at work M-F, only drink Protein shakes. Problem is, when I get to the weekend and attempt to eat real food my restriction is great, I think because during the week my body doesn't get real food. I'm a work in progress and trying to figure it out. I'm in Law Enforcement so no day is "normal" for me. Walking at least 3-4 miles 5-6 days a week, riding bike at least 7 miles on days I do not walk, and just bought Kayaks with hubby and went on a 5 mile, 2 hour kayak ride so I'm loving the energy!
No hair loss (yet) and I'm really trying to keep Protein up so I do not lose. Still have stomach cramps when drinking Water, eating food if I eat/drink too fast. Still no such thing as overeating for me, cuz my restriction is really great still. Look forward to seeing others experiences.

Dont be afraid to eat, you have a tool now
If you gain you know the way back, just stop there and start to maintain like you doctor adviced you before you became sick and regret being anything but healthy.
    Good luck.

    Yes, yes and yes...
As an ex bander we don't have a tight esophagus like a virgin sleever, so we can take in more than them... Water isn't an issue as much for us either... i can gulp Water no issues and could from week 3 onwards.
Weight wise, unfortunately this is also true, we lose at lower rate because its not the first time we have shocked our body into losing weight.
It will come off if we stick to the plan, it might take longer... but in grand scheme of things, it isn't a race. . And bonus is you will have less loose skin, if any depending on your size

I started eating fairly normal amounts (for a thin person) at about six months. I believe in eating healthy carbs so I can sustain a realistic eating program. I run and need energy. Don't worry, the surgery doesn't alter your brain, you'll still like food. The first few months are in no way a reflection of how you will eat the rest of your life. The huge stomach incision has to heal!

I can so relate to this. No I wasn't morbidly obese but my weight kept creeping up. I had a really good loss the first two months. It's been super slow since but in the past if I stalled I would undo all my progress out of frustration. Not this time! Slowly but surely I will get to my goal!

I got sleeved on Monday of this week in TJ, Mexico. I have been a diet failure since my parents staryed taking me to doctors in second grade. I am 62 and have done every diet known to man and then some! Do any of you remember the "liquid protein" diets of the mid 70's. You were only allowed 2 oz of Protein made from boiled cow hooves. I am just a giant yo yo. I have one knee replacement and the other is giving me problems. My cholesterol is over 400 and matching tryglicerides. I have a buldging disk in my low back and I still want to enjoy my life. I did not lose much during the 2 week Protein Shake plus salad w/chicken. Since I received my sleeve, I have not lost anything on the scale but know I am hugely retaining Water. I know what is going in and I know what is going out!
At 62, I am a successful business woman with a good life. I have fought and won over Ovarian Cancer and chemo. I buried my 10 year old daughter who died in bed with me. We all have out histories but I am not going out letting food whip my ass! This one I am winning!

@@mia150, THANK YOU for this link! I had never heard of this doctor and now I can't stop watching his videos. Everything he's teaching about nutrition makes perfect sense, and fits with the healthy plan I followed for 6 months pre-op dropping 30 lbs. It's great to hear support for this from a bariatric surgeon. I only wish I had found this info sooner!

Triple Threat you are where a lot of us were. Health issues and obese, but not morbidly. I was 33 BMI, lost 65 pounds in 7 months and have never felt so good. I'm 54 and have told almost no one. I've become an avid runner, so they all think it was done by that. Good luck! No regrets.

This is what WLS all about, no diets, no stress
nothing, just Portion Control and we should be ok unless we eat and drink pure chocolates every two minutes, this is what my sergeon told me about the surgery and this is what I hear from successful people who did the sleeve 5-10 years ago.
    Good luck.

mia150 got a reaction from Christinamo7 in Why i cant tolerate food anymore?
This was exactly what happened with me.
I went to see my family doctor next day, he said I might have gastritis since it happened after I had a very high acid reflux which might leave my sleeve inflamed, he gave me 60 mg of ppl and asked me to take gaviscon before eating anything, he told me to stay on liquid for few days and avoid coffee, tomatoes, chocolates, orange and lemon juices.... Etc
I feel better today, much better actually
I ate scrambeled egg with some cheese on top and it was fine (no more pain) thank God
So my best bet would be the stomach acid which could inflame our sleeves every once in a while
Thank you guys and good luck

I am almost 10 weeks post op, i was eating fine to the point that few days ago I was scared that I was eating too much, but all of the sudden and right after a very harsh acid reflux I started to feel pain when eating solid food to the point that i am afraid to eat anymore solid while I am OK with liquid and soft food!!
Does anyone experience something like this??

When I felt like that, I was advised to increase my Proteins, have denser Proteins, add Protein powder to my yoghurt, and to drink more Water.
Eat my 1/2 cup allowance at regular times.
I also had to get a stronger reflux med.
This phase of extra hunger is gone for now, my appetite is lot less.
All of the things I mentioned above helped me.
MyFitnessPal helps with Protein, carb, portion sizes and calorie count.
My trusted 1/2 cup and 1 cup measuring utensils help me with portion sizes.
    Dense protein fills me up.
