Prior to surgery, I had the signs of sleep apnea. I snored all night long and this kept my wife awake night after night. This went on for several years. So during my second round of pre-op testing I was required to be examined by a pulmonologist (as I recall). He concluded that I most likely had sleep apnea and recommended a sleep study. I declined because I knew the condition would likely improve after surgery. So I told him that if I still have the condition after surgery, I will undergo a sleep study tests. He was fine with that approach.
Shortly after surgery, my snoring came to an end. I would wake up in the middle of the night and find my wife hovering over me. I was sleeping so quietly, she thought I had died and she was trying to detect if I was still breathing.
So I think the answer is no unless you show signs of sleep apnea, such as snoring.

Huh... I was cleared for it earlier than most I guess. I could have it at 2-3 weeks can't remember which. And it was a staple for me for quite a while. Course I could maybe ear 1/3 of a small (no cheese no onions). Now I can do about half a small and occasionally add the cheese and onions. I am 2.5 years out.

Well, if you look a little more closely at that handout, you'll see it says to wait for "one year or until 75% of excess weight lost."
Depending on your starting weight / BMI (?) and how much you lose pre-op, that could be six months or even sooner.

I was sitting in the WL office months ago waiting for my first consult and a lady who seemed about 100 pounds heavier than me asked where I was in my WL journey. Shyly I said I was just starting and these were her words to me. "If I can give you any words of wisdom, know that I sat were you sit now and weighing about what you weigh. People told me I didn't need surgery and I was not that overweight. Here I sit today 100 pounds heavier and wished I'd listen to myself and not others. Follow your heart!" ... and so here I am at 39 bmi and I will be having surgery next week on June 3rd. Good luck with YOUR choice and best wishes!

We have a right, and possibly a duty to correct our mistakes of the past. There is bankruptcy for those who blew it financially. There is divorce for bad relationship choices. And there is WLS for those of us who at some point made bad food decisions. Without these remedies, people would be forever punished for some bad decisions. These are tools. They don't free you from future responsibility. They just give you a new start.

@@Anna Nim has a bunch of good ideas. Just to add a bit of a ranking to what she laid out:
    1a. Temp job
    1b. Sell stuff on craigslist/ebay
    2. Real job but quit before surgery
    3. Boyfriend 2nd job
    4. Pawn stuff... not a great option as you likely will get pennies on the dollar and risk not getting items back if you can never come up with the money.
    .
    .
    .
    98. Sell kidney on black market.
    99. pay day or title loan... seriously, avoid this option at all costs. Nothing will put you in financial ruin faster than a pay day loan.

A bit of sabotage going on with your folks?
Do talk to them. Maybe they are afraid and figure if they hold off money you won't do it. Or some kinda game. WHY won't they loan you the money? You will also need money for your special foods and such.
But, if they won't budge, my best ideas are these:
*If you have a clear title on a car, you can get an awful high interest signature loan of about $300-600 dollars.
*You can pawn stuff. Usually you get it for 3 months, then you have to pay the interest and can keep the item (re-newing the loan every 30-90 days with interest payments.
*Got anything you can sell? "Anything" adds up quick. (Re-sale toys on Craigslist or at a resale shop, Retro Stuff, books to Halfprice books, Jewelry on Craigslist, Furniture). Of course, met people in public to sell stuff. When I have to sell stuff, I make it slightly cheaper than others to get it gone quicker.
*Craigslist for temp bartending jobs, catering jobs, babysitting jobs. Call catering companies to work a few weekends. *Temporary agencies (often more trouble than they are worth....)
*Get a job (Denny's) and don't tell em about surgery and then quit with only a few days notice..
*Can your boyfriend do lawn work or something else on nights/weekends for the cash.
All those above I have done for quick cash.
    Good Luck

When I take my sips of Water every 5 minutes, after I swallow the water, I have a strange gurgling come back up my throat. It's not the water but just like air. Is this normal?

I'm 13 days post op and am sitting in a massage chair getting a pedicure as I write this. Just one of many ways I will be caring for myself now, because it's not just all about diet and exercise, right?

Going from lapband to sleeve on the 25th of May. Major emotional twists with this one. The band was a complete disappointment, at least for me. However since being unfilled, I have only gained 5lbs back. So a total of 20lbs down from original surgery. I'm grateful for the band because it really did reset my brain towards food, so a year and a half of adjusting my eating habits for the most part is going to really help this journey I'm about to go on. Hopefully I never see this person again.

I had vsg 5/17 too. When I feel like that I grab a sf popcycle and walk around for a bit. I'm not sure if this distracts me or actual makes a difference....either way I feel better.

You've done great. The only thing I would change is on page two, where you say that there is no requirement for recent participation...
Change it to: Not only is there no definition of "recent", there is in fact no requirement for "recent participation"...

When you get the denial, let me know if you need help crafting the letter. I've done this (appealing denials for medical care, not necessarily bariatric surgery denials) from the physician's side for a long time, and my success rate is pretty good, but persistence is key.

Oh I am SO ready! I've been packed for a week, lol! Sick and tired of this liquid diet (cheated and ate a meatball out of my hub's Pasta ). Had my pre-op yesterday and I'm more convinced than ever he's the best doc on the planet, really went out of his way to answer all my questions and allay my fears. Peed in a cup, had some blood drawn, all results normal, good to go! I'll find out tomorrow what time I have to be there Monday. Today I went and got my hair did, it's WICKED short, easy to care for and if any falls out it won't be such a big deal I'm just anxious and ready to start this new chapter of my life!
