audaciousmarie got a reaction from Tara1992 in I am sad today. Disappointing realization.
I know its annoying to have to wait even longer for the surgery you have worked so hard to receive. However I think you should look at this from an entirely different perspective. When you have the surgery you want to be sure that you are at your healthiest and that all potential roadblocks have been taken care of (i.e. sleep apnea). You dont want to rush into a procedure and your body not be totally ready for this. Wls can be lifesaving but its still a surgery and a very big deal September will be here before you know it. You are one of the lucky ones to have had a great doctor who was on your side:) Some programs are so strict about the at least 40 bmi if no comorbidities. Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App

I'm still pre op as well and trying to decide between sleeve and bypass too. My surgeon was no help to me as he thinks either procedure will work well for me. What do you mean by "People can go off a little mentally with bypass?" Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App

They use you starting weight when they submit all of your info to the insurance company. The requested weight loss is really to get you in the swing of making the proper changes to be successful post op and to shrink your liver as much as possible so there is no chance they will nick it during your operation.

Exactly. I went through the 6 month diet and was approved (with United Healthcare) and I ended up losing 40 pounds and the BMI I had after the 40 pound weight loss was less than 40 (around 37) and I didnt have any comorbidities. They really just want to see if you are capable of following directions and making a commitment (following the diet and losing weight). So you are definitely on the right track. Please keep us posted and congrats!☺ Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App

audaciousmarie got a reaction from anniebanana in Pre-op frustration
First off, congrats on making it this far and getting a surgery date. Hmm...I'm not a doctor but it seems to me that you are eating too few calories even for pre op. I am pre op as well and I am on a 1200 calorie diet (3 400 calorie meals a day). Your body may be in starvation mode which is why you have not lost anything more. audaciousmarie got a reaction from ridgerunner in Gotta Get Off the RNY vs. Sleeve Seesaw: Heads or Tails, help me out!
My surgeon told me if I wanted DS, then he would have to refer me to an outside program. DS is known as the most effective wls but it also has the highest rate of complications. I think DS is reserved as the last, last, last, last resort because of the complexity & severity of the surgery. Patients are much more likely to lose and keep their weight off but they are more likely to experience malnutrition, Vitamin deficiencies, etc. Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App

I don't know if you have ever seen the show "My 600lb Life" but even they don't get DS when they have hundreds and hundreds of pounds to lose. Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App
