Every morning I come out of the gate with an 11 oz 160 calorie, 30g Premier Protein shake. That gets my day off with 1/3 of the job done. EVERY afternoon at 4 I have a snack of Dannon Greek Lite and Fit giving me 80 cal and 12g of Protein. I usually have tuna or chicken for lunch, getting 20 g of protein, and like was said above, I'll spike whatever food I'm having for supper with a 1/2 scoop of Gen Pro unflavored Protein Powder giving me an extra 15 g to whatever I'm eating. Using this method, I easily get at least 100g of Protein daily.

I was on metformin for over a year - in fact it was a diagnosis of diabetes that drove me to seek surgery. My blood sugars averaged between 130-140 on 4 metformin a day. It was AWFUL on my tummy. serious problems the whole time I was on it.
I stopped Meformin two days before surgery. after surgery my sugar went down to 120-135 on NO MEDICATION. Now 5 weeks out my fasting sugar is usually 110-115. on no medication.
All of my symptoms from the metformin are GONE and I have to manage things for having the opposite bathroom trouble (which is very common post surgery)
I am happy happy happy. the weight loss is a side effect for me, pleasant - but the being off Metformin was my #1 main goal. my complexion is brighter with normal blood sugar too. I am VERY HAPPY. :-)

Gotcha. Stay on those fluids. It gets easier I promise!
Nothing worth achieving comes easy. It took years to get to need surgery. You know this is a good secession. Just stay strong and know these hard days too will pass. Chin up

The night of surgery was tough due to the anesthesia and just being in the hospital. Stayed two nights due to elevated blood pressure.
    No Pain and No vomiting
    Gas at a minimum
Only issue was reflux but I called my surgeon and he ordered liquid EX strength Zantac which has been a miracle. Also ordered a mixture called white slider which has kept me regular and able to tolerate my BP tablets crushed.
I can walk just as well as I did prior to surgery. Back driving and looking forward to swimming when cleared. 5 days and 8 more pounds down.
No Hunger pains yet but I would love some yogurt!

I am getting so anxious, y'all! I have no nerves but the anticipation is killing me. I am just so ready to get back to the normal me before I gained this weight this last year. It's frustrating but I have to remember things are going to change again and all will be well!

Girl I feel you. The anticipation is crazy!!! I spend so much time here, looking at VSG accounts on Instagram or on Facebook in a couple WLS groups. I know your not supposed to wish time away but sometimes I really wish I could fast forward time. I have been using this time though to get prepared. Each week when I go grocery shopping I buy some chicken broth, unsweetened applesauce, Protein Shakes and other supplies so that I don't have to buy so much at once.

I am excited that I will have surgery late July or early August and I am so glad to have found this forum!
I was shocked to hear my surgeon say I needed to be on Protein shakes for 3 weeks prior to surgery. I had always heard 1-2 weeks and some people even less. I understand the importance of doing this to help shrink the liver, but I was surprised.
Anyone else have to do 3 weeks?

So far all I have to do is clear liquid for 3 days prior. I cant have Protein Shakes in that 3 days. Just juices, water, broth, Jello and popsicles.

The EGD was a breeze for me. I went in they put me to sleep and I was up and out the door an hour later. I felt fine afterwards so that nothing to worry about.

I had my stress today and had myself completely freaked out before hand about it. I was sick to my stomach over it. As I was so nervous, I got up to my target heart rate in just about a minute on the treadmill. I am so glad to have this done. Endoscopy is the last clearance test left and I am scheduled for that on May 3.

I had my 3 mo check up, my surgeon was very pleased with my progress. My cholesterol levels are normal, I'm off of my BP meds and my venis statis wound has healed. So far this decision to get the sleeve at my age has been a wise choice.

    Cathy48,
Yes, yes the dreadful sweats will soon leave and be replaced with new found energy! I'm doing things now that I haven't done in years. My husband bought me a bicycle, today and we're going to start riding together. I'm 64y/o and haven't been on a bike in over 40yrs so this should be a real adventure. Next week, I'm starting at a gym with a personal trainer...I hope my new found energy doesn't exceed my physical ability. I was on 3 blood pressure meds and the side effects were ruining my life. Now, two of those meds have been eliminated and that has a lot to do with my since of a "new lease on life". Yes, you will be able to glide into spaces you never thought possible.

I was sleeved on 9/21/15 at the age of 60. For the first time in my life I have hope that I will be able to keep my weight under control. This has been one of the best decision I've made. I'm from Michigan.

    Cathy48,
I had sleeve surgery 12/30/15..... right before my 64th birthday. I have sleep apnea and chronic high blood pressure due to my weight. The sleeve was the smartest decision I've ever made and should have done it a lot sooner. I wasted many years being so overweight and damaging my health. Good luck with your surgery......I'm sure you will have no regrets. I honestly do feel like a have a "new lease on life"!!

I've been lurking around and very, very occasionally posting so why did I miss the over sixties group! Everyone seems to be so young here, I couldn't believe I was alone, well here you all are and it's lovely to meet you. I'm 67, that's my calendar age but really it's rubbish. I feel more like 50 or so. After some gentle encouragement from my GP, I have type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure, I went to see the surgeon about 16 months ago with the intention of having a band. However I had to increase my health care cover and wait for 12 months before I could go ahead. To cut a very long story short, I'm scheduled for 16th May but decided to have the sleeve instead after reading some negative feedback about the band. I'm scared but excited at the same time. I want a new, healthier me going forward.

Slimliz reacted to Sajijoma in I got my labs back today from my checkup!
I had my yearly checkup last week and everything looked good in the office, but I didn't get my labs back til today and I am please to announce I do not have diabetes, high chloresterol, high triglycerides or any of that bad stuff! I could dance for joy! My only "problems" if you can call them that, is that my Iron is a little low and my B12 is a lot high. LOL so I have a message in to my NUT and waiting to see what she wants to do with that. But I am soooo excited to not have diabetes because my parents, my living siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and my grandparents when they were all alive had diabetes and I had gestational diabetes in my last pregnancy, so to walk out today with perfect health and perfect numbers was AMAZING! I am the first one in my family to almost reach 40(still got 9 more months) without having diabetes!!! It was the NSV of all NSV's! This surgery really has made my life better!

Though I am ever so sorry that you feeling lousy, I want to thank you for your post.
I believe that it is extremely important that newbies--especially pre op posters hear that WLS is not for everyone and is no easy bed of roses.
The weight loss is wonderful. Shopping for new and smaller clothes is exciting. Dating after years of abstinence is an exhilarating ego boost. However, the journey is pitted with pot holes and hardship bumps for some--physically and mentally.
If your post makes even one pre op reader really stop and think, research more diligently, and consider not only the good outcomes, but the sacrifices too, then your post has extreme merit and I for one, thank YOU.
Try to calm yourself. Take a deep breath. Try not to overwhelm yourself. At a slower pace, take one step--one hour at a time. Work with your new body. Don't fight against it. That will take practice and patience.
    Prayers going up for you.
It will get better. I promise.
    Thank you, friend,
    Valentina
