No, you need to follow the plan your team gave you. Don't look to a message board of internet strangers to grant you permission to go against medical orders. If you feel like you are ready to progress to mushy foods, you need to call your surgeon, dietitian, bariatric nurse practitioner -- someone from your team -- and discuss it with them and see if they think you are ready.

I am a very covered type girl. Never shorts, long sleeves. 12hrs after I got to the hospital I didnt care if my butt was flashing every horrified onlooker. I hurt, felt dirty from oozing out of my big incision leeking on my hospital robe, being poked, examined, couldnt sit for long and on and on. You wanna see my vajayjay? Hanging boobs? Have at it. ????

So I'm in a state of "nesting." I know I'm not having a baby [emoji23], but I want to be 100% focused on having a successful pre-op diet and post-op LIFE! My 13-yo son is on vacation visiting family for 5 weeks and I'll be having the surgery while he is gone (he does not know, nor does anyone in my family). Today I cleaned the garage, and organized some of the inside of the house. More cleaning to be done tomorrow! [emoji15][emoji15][emoji15]

I had a requirement from the hospital to have a driver and they had to sign a form. Although I was not up to long term visits it was nice for the short visits from family to just walk with me in the hall. Truthfully I mostly slept. Driving would have been impossible for me.

One thing I will say is listen to your body..If you feel something is wrong..go with your gut...the place I got mine done at told me it was just acid reflux and all my signs were normal..next week I was in the hospital ...I will admit some progress differently but overall if u don't feel something is right get a second opinion.. Absolutely sepsis is definitely nothing to play with. I thank God for his healing. But realize I still have quite a ways to go. Keeping my eyes open on how I feel daily is key!!

So sorry you have had such a bumpy road.
I couldn't agree with you more: If you "don't feel right" for any reason, call your surgeon's office and get ready to go to be seen. This website is irreplaceable for support and guidance, but it is not, nor should it be to give medical advise. That is what you paid your surgeon for.
People forget that your surgeon works for you. Do not worry about "bothering him", or asking foolish questions. That's why he has a support staff. Surgeons are more than well paid. You've earned and deserve to have their time to have all of your questioned answered in a polite and professional manner.
So glad you are on the mend.
Be healthy and stay in touch.

I did some basic internet research -- found the two Centers of Excellence bariatric practices in my area.
Then I went to an intro lecture by the head surgeon at one of the practices. He was phenomenal -- a great educator, answered EVERY question asked by audience members (no matter how dumb), was the right age (in his mid-40s, which is something I pay attention to, i.e., old enough to have a lot of experience, young enough to know the latest stuff). He'd done thousands of WLS surgeries.
So then I talked to the folks who ran his practice -- office manager, insurance coordinator, head nurse, nurse practitioner, receptionist, scheduler -- and they were all lovely and competent.
So that's who I went with.
BTW, NO WAY would I schedule WLS with a surgeon I couldn't even meet with before deciding to go with. NO WAY.

I bought my first swim suit in I don't know how long. My kids love going swimming so now I will be able to go!! I waited around in the fitting rooms until someone else came in to ask how I looked. After loosing 100 pounds when I try things on sometimes I see the old me and not the new me, so it is hard to tell, I really wish my mind would finally see the new me.

I did a lot of research about wls procedures and once I decided on vsg I focused my research. I watched others on you tube to see what their experience was which was very helpful. I also watched a couple of videos where they in detailed did surgeries and what was happening. Helped me with the unknown of what would happen once I was on the table. Researching and learning as much as I could really helped me. I had a great surgical team so I can't say there are things that others did that I wish I had done, but there is a wealth of knowledge and experience on BP that I find truly helpful from those who share.
I took my weight management time serious and started practicing healthy choices. The pre op diet I took serious and prepared mentally so that I could do it and be successful. Understanding the importance of it to prepare my liver for surgery was serious to me. Since there are variations it is important to follow your prescribed plan from Doctor.
Participated in group exercise... Zumba, AquaZumba, belly dancing, hip hop aerobics, and walking. Although this part I started some time ago it just got more intense before surgery.
For a couple of weeks prior to surgery I nested. I am glad I did. Coming home with everything in order was great. During that time right before surgery pre made meals for family.
Overall this was a good decision to go through the surgery,

I've seen the show only a couple of times and both times wanted to reach through the TV screen and bitch-slap her.
I can't imagine an intervention would have any effect on her.

Thank you for your experience, and I'm sorry to have hurt or offended you. You have to understand, though, that your good results are independent of our perception of this product. I'm genuinely happy to hear it worked for you, but it does still seem disturbing and not at all something I would try. That's just my opinion, and has no bearing on your own experience and happiness. You continue to do what works for you, and I'm going to continue to be a little weirded out by this. No one can take your success away from you.

My surgeon was actually at the seminar and did a great presentation.....I was in your same boat....I was around a 42 bmi with no medical issues.....When I met with the surgeon I told him all about all the times I had lost and re-gained....I told him I know how I "should" eat.....I actually ate pretty health foods, I just ate way way too much of it! He felt I was perfect for surgery right from the beginning.
You'll do great! I'm a little over 4 weeks post-op now and feeling great! This is the best thing I've ever done for myself!!!

It really depends on your insurance plan's requirements. One of your first steps should be to call your insurance and ask for the medical policy requirements for WLS. Knowing all the requirements upfront will help you. You don't want any surprises later down the road. You can also sometimes find the medical policy online but I think it's best to call and ask for it so you're sure you have the one that applies to your specific policy.
    Good luck on your journey!

Elle09 got a reaction from hillgirly in Why do some folks try to ruin this forum?
I am recently sleeved and will probably say I have been lucky in that I had a great medical program I went through and felt prepared from all aspects of the surgery, nutrition needs and physical aspects. I have a direct line to my surgeon, NUT, program coordinator, and exercise physiologist. Even with my core medical group in place I am thankful for this forum and new friends that I have met, that understand where I am at in my journey and for the veterans who understand where this journey will take me and can provide guidance.
I spent over a year reading and researching before I finally decided to take this wls journey. Part of researching was trolling through this forum before signing up and learning about real experiences from people who had already gone through this (the vets.). The information they share is priceless and btw free.
I have seen posts from vets that were not so nice, posts from newbies not so nice and posts from people who have yet to have wls surgery and posts information in an authoritative voice as if they know everything about wls and have had years of success. To me the latter is the worst.
I have learned to take what information I need and leave what I don't need and for the rest chalk it up for entertainment purposes.
P.S. - I drank from a straw and lived to tell about! I know I am not suppose to drink from straws not because a veteran told me not to because "my doctor ", said it was a no no! The age old battle "to straw or not straw will continue." I won't recommend it.
