  1. Congrats!
Sirmikael got a reaction from BlackBeauty734 in Guys who started over 400 lbs.
Guys, this thread is really great. I started this journey at 419 pounds and I'm a week away from my 5th of 6 dietician meetings. I'm currently at around 385, just from following the pre-surgery diet.
I go through so many of the same issues with restaurants, airplanes, folding chairs, etc. And I absolutely always go for aisle seats, just so I can lean to one side.
My surgery date is going to be sometime in June, and I'm glad to have found this message board.

I'm ten days away from my 2 month surgery anniversary, and everything has been smoother than I'd have ever hoped.
My 1 month follow-up meeting went well, but they said that I need to start eating more regular food, since I've grown accustomed to Protein shakes for Breakfast and lunch.
It doesn't take much to fill me up, but I'm able to eat a lot more than I thought I would. I always thought people ate a few bites, but I'm able to eat more.
I'm closing in on 70 pounds lost since my biggest weight, and over 30 pounds since surgery on 9/26.

Hi! I am new to the group. I live in Des Moines and am just starting the process. I attended the Unity Point seminar this month and have my consultation next month. So nervous, but excited to start this new chapter and feel better!

From 597lbs to 251lbs. Yeah this surgery can work for you as long as you allow it to.

I had RNY bypass two years ago. Honestly I have never second guessed myself, not before and not after. This was because I was very sick from being obese and I knew that I would not live a long full life.
I am 5'10" and weighed 315 at my very heaviest. I carried my weight well but my body was breaking down. I had high BP, High cholesterol, sleep apnea, Severe gerd, diabetes and stage 3 kidney disease.
I was told that I would soon be looking at kidney dialysis and then down the road a transplant. I also have psoriatic arthritis and severe osteo arthritis of the spine.
Much of these diseases came on in my late 30's, early 40's and they were caused by being obese which is a metabolic disease. I lost over 100 pounds on my own many times and would gain it all right back.
Since having surgery my diabetes, gerd, high bp, high cholesterol, sleep apnea is all gone. My stage 3 kidney disease has not progressed and is considered in remission.
The bad news is, I should have done it sooner because I damaged my joints and am still dealing with back, neck and shoulder pain. Had i done this even 5 years sooner, it might have made a difference.
The good news is, I feel fantastic! More awake, more alert and definitely happier!
If I were you, I would think about what reasons you were considering bypass in the first place and stay focused on that. It might help you make a decision.
Also, i would not move forward unless i was 100% sure because this is a huge life change and you have to be ready for it to be successful long term.

I myself decided that I need to be around for my grandkids who are 4 years old and 3 month old. I also have degeneritive discs and bulging discs and have been on disability since 2012. I also had a heart attack back in 2015. I was told recently I could end up in a wheelchair if I don't get the weight off soon. I would also like to ride horses again. I have also a great support group behind me. As of right now I am scheduled for sometime in April or may

First...congrats sirmikael and Lucky on your weight loss so far!!!! Whoot! Whoot!
Second...prayers are being said for you mindi to have a speedy return on the insurance approval!
Third...i am excited to report a 50 pound loss as of today!!!!
The stamina really does come back and the energy you will feel is unexplainable (at least for me it has been)
This has not been easy but the changes I have made so far I can live with for life...guess that is most important.

Nice!! I'm down about 23 right now, with my one month follow-up on 11/10. I'm much bigger than you, so you've lost more, in terms of percentage of body weight. Congrats! Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App

I've read that ginger ale is fine, as long as you let it go flat first. You don't want to drink it carbonated.

OP, sorry to pile on here, but you really do have to realize what you're doing here. Granted, some of the guidelines we're given are probably safer than needed, but it's for our protection.
You're not just putting your toe over the line, you're stepping way past it.

It did get easier for me. I think the first 2-3 days were the hardest, and by the end of it, I barely noticed.
I'm almost a month post-op now, so I'm about to get back to solids, but I miss caffeine WAY more.
