OzRoo reacted to animallover1247 in Hunger
I am 7 weeks post op and I have been hungry for seven weeks! Seriously! It is difficult to deal with too. I am having to pratice some major restraint and not eat any more than my 4 oz. I think most of my hunger is acid related even though I am on a PPI. Are you taking anything for acid reflux? This could be your problem. I would talk to your surgeon.

I was sleeved on 3/25/16. I was told that I would have to remember to eat. Not the case at all. I feel hungry all the time? I can't but much down but was not expecting the hunger part. Is it just me?
I see my dr next week to speak to him about it. But was wondering if anyone else has this issue?

You can have Stage 1-2 .. You may not like the taste though.

I asked my Dietician yesterday re Raw pureed bananas and pawpaw.
She said these are fine raw, because they are very soft already.
Apart from the printed guide I have for each stage, I also get her written instructions. All I saw was "cooked fruit".
Anyway, all good.
I started on Soft Foods yesterday, week 5 post op.
I had 2 cruskits with low fat cream cheese, topped with tinned, mashed tuna mayo. It was Heaven!

I have been wanting to try a pawpaw.
I just had ramps for the first time.

I was told avocado was fine during my puréed foods. If you mush it real good. So I think your prob fine. Unless I'm totally confused and that's for the following stage lol i better double check with my NUT now. Lol

You have to read the labels on baby food very carefully. Some of it has a lot of carbs.
I didn't have a puree phase (just soft food), but it is fairly easy to eat regular, adult soft or puréed food without resorting to baby food.
Think: Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, refried Beans, ricotta bake, etc.

Thank you!
It is wonderful to hear from others that also have Graves disease. To share experiences and support.
Yes, frequent blood tests. Mine were every 30 days, now every 6 weeks.
Congratulations on your fantastic weight loss, despite this thyroid disease!
Well done!!!
It is a relief for me to hear that
Good luck with your lab work!

@ - several of us here have Graves Disease. Glad they found yours and you should eventually be on the road to recovery following RAI. Please know that you could absorb your med differently so you will need to be tested every 8 weeks or so or at least keep a very close eye on your symptoms to request blood test and potentially make med adjustment. Having said that, it has not affected my weight loss at all. I had RAI in Feb 2012. Gastric Bypass in June 2015 and down 135 pounds. Have adjusted my Synthroid 3 times since surgery and feeling another change needs to be made. Just had lab work on Friday so we will see. Good luck!

Yes, it makes good sense to keep re-reading the instructions .....
Next week I'll be progressing onto soft foods, so more instructions, and more reading
Did lot of purees today, and froze most of them. No mistakes this time

In the first weeks after surgery, I probably re-read the food plan pages in my manual several times a day.

@@Inner Surfer Girl,
Yes, true, texture is very important.
Thank you for reminding me, as this is exactly what my dietician told me.
I was mindful of Vegies, but not of Soft fruit.< /p>
I just thought that bananas, some type of pears and pawpaw are naturally soft ..... hence I forgot to cook them.
It is such a new eating habit now, that unless I keep checking my instructions, I sometimes make mistakes .....
Now, I check instructions every day.

My guess is that even puréed raw vegetables would still be too rough/jagged. According to my NUT all of the food phases are based on texture.

@@Valentina,
Good question!
Perhaps they are easier to digest when cooked.
I'll ask the dietician next week, at my follow up apt.

I wonder why no raw fruits/veggies as long as they are pureed? (and peeled)

Have the ginger ale, just flatten it. It's the ginger, not the bubbles that settles the gut.
Feel better

Maybe going to some support group meetings will help.
I think you "need a talk'n to".
Your "mojo" needs a boost.
It's worth a try, isn't it? Everyone every now and then needs a revamping.
Get moving! Your journey is not complete. You got this, my friend.

you can have ginger tea, which could be very helpful for you. and, if you need to have a few crackers for a couple of days it will be fine too.

I have read in About.com Thyroid, plus Mary Shomon's thyroid blogs, that taking the med at night works really well with some people, and that it may even absorb better ....

OzRoo reacted to Inner Surfer Girl in Question Alert
The predicted weight loss is based on results from a few specific studies. They are estimates and not predictions.
Is it possible to lose all of your excess weight? Yes.
Is it possible to lose very little of your excess weight? Yes.
Is it possible to lose part of your excess weight? Also, yes.
As far as I can tell is that the only real limit is how much effort you choose to put into following your program. If you do what you are supposed to and don't give up when you stall or experience difficulties, then you can lose all or most of your excess weight.
