When you are in a restaurant with friends, family or coworkers as everyone orders full course meals. You get a stare and gaze (very strange look and a silent pause) from your party including the waitress or waiter for ordering a small cup of Soup or a kids meal.

Let me ask you this...... before this class this morning when was the last time you exerted yourself ?
We are in this together and we are doing this because we are out of shape. Not a single one of us would be here if we had been running marathons, being in the gym everyday or doing laps in a pool all the time.
Hell, a few weeks ago we had a fire alarm go off and I had to run up 3 stories to clear the floor that I am responsible for. I WAS OUT OF GAS BY THE SECOND ONE !!! And I felt it in my legs the next day.
We are all in this together !!
Keep your chin up because you can do THIS !!
Screw anyone that looks at you sideways or thinks otherwise.
As you go through this 12 week class you will get faster, more flexible, stronger and have better stamina !!
Think how amazing that will feel !
Then after your surgery you will be walking. Then after awhile your speed will increase. Faster and faster until you break into a run for a minute. Then 2 minutes.... Then 3 minutes....
    You got this !!!

    DadsRebel,
Trust us, it does get easier. And harder. This portion of this path you are on is a tough one, and I don't look back very fondly on those long days immediately before and after my surgery. The days immediately after the surgery are the toughest. But if you can survive the first day, the next one is easier, followed by the next one which is easier, and so on, and so on.
But I will tell you this......it has been all worth it for me. I feel better, look better and hopefully will live a longer life thanks to the changes I made in my lifestyle.
Follow your doctor's orders. Listen to your nutritionist. And keep up the exercise.....I am three years out and regularly exercise to keep the weight from ever creeping back.

Thanks for the comments and support. yes, logically I KNOW it is just about improving myself. The whole reason I'm in the class is because of how unfit I am and yes, at my weight exercise at first is going to be a struggle. Like I said, logically I know all this...emotionally was a different story yesterday. But today when I leave work, I'll be putting my sneakers on and walking...and walking and walking. And next Thursday at 7am I'll be right there in Philly sweating and huffing and puffing.
And honestly, I'm kinda surprised I was able to hold a plank for even a second and was able to get up off the floor without needed something for support to pull myself up. So there is that.

My daughter knew I was going to Mexico. When I got home and was not moving so fast, she said, "did something happen to you in mexico?" I told her I had stomach surgery, and once I did that, I would do better on my diet. She is 7, and now very proud of my 42 lb loss in 3 months.

Everything went fantastic! I'm feeling much much better today although I just can't seem to wake up. So glad yours was a success @@choicemun !
Also- I did so well on my preop diet and shrank my liver so much, he didn't even have to do a biopsy! He is very pleased with my mobility and efforts thus far so I will for sure be going home today! He told my family that he wished all of his patients were like me. That was comforting to hear.
He did say that after getting inside of my abdomen, he noticed that I had a lot more "man fat" than normal and because of it, I was about 3-4 years away from something severe/detrimental occurring...such as a heart attack. The current discomfort I feel is worth it when knowing I literally just saved my own life.
Thanks for checking up on me!! The positive vibe is contagious and greatly appreciated!

In 12 sweet, short hours, I will finally be in the OR! My journey began in June of 2015 and there were a few times where I honestly couldn't foresee myself making it to this point. Especially when the 2 week preop diet began. But here I am!
I do have a few concerns such as anesthesia, the pain afterwards, etc. As a 27 year old adult, I've been blessed by not having any surgeries or physically painful experiences. I just don't know what to expect but it's nothing that is causing any anxiety at this point.
So, to all of the newbies who are just initiating this process, keep your head up and fight for your health. Follow the instructions of your surgeons and utilize this forum. There are a lot of wise folks on BP who have a ton to offer. Even if it's not always something you want to hear
Now....to my final question: WHO IS SAVING ME A SEAT ON THE LOSER'S BENCH???
See you on the other side!

Mine is tomorrow. My boys are 9 and 11 and I just told them the truth in broad terms. I had to explain to them because I plan on them helping me next week I think kids are more resilient than we give them credit for. The 9 year old is a bit worried, but he will be okay once he knows I'm okay.

There aren't too many of us. When I was active on the board, 3 to 5 years ago, there were only a handful of guys who were also active on the board. Less than 10, I'd say. Most of them, as have many of the ladies, have moved on with their lives. I see a few of them, like @gmanbat and @@joatsaint, but @@Butterthebean, @Fiddler and a few others have moved on. I had too, but came back to get some inspiration to lose a few pounds.
Earlier, you mentioned dumping would help you to fight regain. I'm not a bypass person, but I wouldn't depend on dumping to keep you compliant. Understanding why we get the f**k-It's and finding methods other than eating is the key. Otherwise, you could just attach wires and batteries to your nut sack which shock you every time a cupboard or refrigerator opens in your house.
    That would be more effective.

This is a duplicate post I made earlier......but I think I made it in the wrong section before.
Had a cool NSV yesterday that foreshadows the tremendous NSV potential ahead.......
So.....I'm a dude who gives not two thoughts to clothes.
I pretty much wear cargos or khakis at work with one of our company monogramed shirts. I prefer the polo style. Days off work....same basic deal....just cargos with t-shirts or polo shirts. Suit and tie on church Sunday. This is how it's been for a long time.
I've been out of work just under three weeks now, recovering from sleeve & umbilical hernia surgery.
Most of this time I've been wearing a few pairs of Under Armour long pants, shorts and t-shirts. These have gone from snug & in need of a "pre-wear stretch" prior to surgery.....to now being baggy and saggy once coming out of the clothes drier. Funny stuff. I never wore clothes from the drier.....and I usually did the "shirt stretch deal" as I put them on.
Now it's obvious. Old stuff doesn't fit anymore.
My wife and I had some events we wanted to go to yesterday, Halloween day. I'd gone out earlier in the morning and had a haircut and also got my beard trimmed up (I'd shaved prior to the surgery, but since then it's grown back). Anyway, came home yesterday morning with a ball cap on and wearing my normal UA pants and t-shirt.
After she got ready I went and got another shower (can't stand that feeling after a haircut) and got dressed.
I wore a pair of cargos that I bought the week prior to the surgery....now 3 weeks old. They'd just come out of the drier. Buttoned up they kept falling down as I was trying to find a smaller shirt to wear. Finally found a never worn polo that is made from a no-stretch dry-tech type fabric. It was hiding in my closet among the few smaller clothes that are in there.
Got the shirt on and belt cinched down to keep my freaking pants up. Looked in the mirror as I was brushing my teeth and thought, "Alright, dude.....you look human again".
I walked downstairs to grab a glass of Water and ran into my wife. She looked at me and burst out into tears. I'm like, "WTH ????" and she's smiling while crying and gives me a huge hug. "Have you seen yourself ?", she asked.
It was one of those spontaneous affirmations outa the clear blue that reminded me that I made the right decision in getting the surgery.
Later on in the day she commented....."Have you noticed how you are now walking......no limping". I did notice. I've only needed Advil on 3 occasions since the surgery as opposed to needing it 3 times per day every day prior to wls.
It's only been 2+ weeks since the surgery (down 31 pounds).....and 6 months since my weight loss efforts began (down 89 pounds).......and I already feel years younger.
It's at the point that I can't even conceive of how much younger I"ll feel once I reach the 1 year post-op mark. 47 now.......will probably feel like 27 after the first year.
Looking forward to wearing the same type of of button fly Levi's I wore in college. I've still got the old leather jacket that wore then, too. It's got some road rash from two motorcycle wrecks that I walked away from. It's going to feel great being that same guy once again......just a wiser & worn version.
47 heading toward 27. I'm down with that.

I have one pair of "fat calf" boots I can wear. I bought a different pair online some time ago and I couldn't zip them all the way. I tried them on this weekend during The Great Wardrobe Cleanout, and now they zip all the way, and there is room to spare!
Also, I noticed there is room on either side of me in my recliner, which has never happened!
