Thank you all for your wise words. I am probably going to tell her on Monday I just can't see not telling her. If she found out after the fact, she would be hurt and I really don't want that either. Just going to be strong and resolute and explain that I am looking for support and that I have already made MY decision.
Told my 20 year old daughter tonight. She seemed ok with it. Asked some questions. She had just learned about it in a nutrition class in college! What are the odds LOL!

Yes..........mine was removed during sleeve surgery as well as major hernia repair and lapband removal.. As far as pain and complications....I have had none other than certain foods going straight through me. I mainly refer to one of my faves...Greek yogurt. I may be eating too fast and will discuss this with my PA soon. I am curious as to who else has had these same issues. Please reply if you have. TKS

@ashroyb I'm the same. I'm waiting on my approval however my doctor informed they would have to remove the gallbladder because of stones that would cause bigger problems down the road. Worried about the pain and recovery time!

Let me state plainly end up front that I do not regret this surgery at all. I wish I could have done this for myself much sooner. But, it is a sacrifice. And you need to be OK with that before you do it I think. Weight-loss surgery is not like dieting; the changes to your body are permanent. Since surgery, my biggest challenges have been the discomfort of eating many foods. I notice it is much more important to pay close attention to the signals of my body, which are no longer Austin glaringly obvious. Because the part of your stomach that makes hunger hormones is removed, after the first few weeks it is very easy to stop thinking about eating almost all together. For me, I no longer eat for pleasure. Eating is a task I must complete to take care of my body. If most of your social functions revolve around large meals, that can be a challenge. Although I simply move my focus to my company, to the fullness of the experience of being with people I enjoy or love, instead of focusing on the food. It is also and adjustment as you lose weight, noticing your body getting smaller, you're clothes falling off or sagging, The softness of your body increasing, etc. I'm sure there are a lot of other things people find challenging besides what I have mentioned, but those are bits and pieces from my own journey. At the end of the day, I truly have no regrets about this but I most certainly i'm aware of this great change I have made every single day. Oh, and Hair loss is a common complaint. But a temporary element

I don't know about the letter but I wpuld like to share with you that I was in a similar situation. I was so afraid to tell my parents. 32 years old with a hubby and child of my own but I just knew they would be against it and try and say I was taking the easy way.
I finally decided to tell them and they were so supportive. That's very unusual because my family is judgy. They have really been very interested in my whole process now and are looking forward to me getting healthy. I truly believe that as your parents she will be much more receptive then you may think. I sure was surprised. Congrats on your journey !!

I've actually been turned down for a job because of my weight. The only reason I know I'd because a friend of mine worked there and I had exactly the skill they needed but chose someone else. I asked her to be truthful and tell me why they turned me down and after some coaxing she told me i she heard them talking about not having enough Snacks to keep me happy. So although it hurt my feelers a bit I just moved along. My friend ended up leaving that job a few weeks later and finding another one because she too is over weight and she no longer felt comfy working there with what she heard. Now she's making twice as much and has much better insurance. there's always positive in the negative

They want to remove it because I have a ton of gallstones with minor discomfort. They said it will cause problems later down the road because of how packed with stones it is. I wish It was healthy but I def don't want any.kre surgeries than I have to. : ) Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using the BariatricPal App

Maybe the best thing to do wpuld be keep a cooler with you with shakes and yogurts and stuff a long with Protein powders. I am work at a factoring company where we do the receivables for truckers. We purchase their loads once done so they get paid immediately instead of having to wait. I actually have two truckers as clients who have had WLS surgery and both keep coolers in their trucks full of shakes cottage cheese and so on. One even has a case of Beans at all times. They have done really well. Hoping that helps a little

I have wondered the same thing. I have 3 people in my life that got the surgery but as soon as they could they started back with their old habits and gained it all back. I'm deciding to learn from their mistakes and be very vigilant with this tool cuz I have fought hard for it. Just got my approval today after 2 denials! So I'm gonna fight just as hard after the surgery

I'm also self-pay and only did a "nutrition workshop" with a bunch of other WLS-scheduled patients that really didn't offer me any new information. As a nurse, I've already taken extensive nutrition classes, so I didn't get anything out of it. But while I'm lucky to have a strong medical background, I do worry for those who are left to the whims of internet information and forum advice; it can be hard to tell what is accurate and what is dead wrong (albeit offered with good intentions).
I admit, I've been guilty of scrapping with others verbally on this forum when I think they're giving downright bad health information. I always recommend people go to established, reliable sources and use their doctors/nutritionists post-op to ask questions and get straight answers. Doctors aren't perfect (I've wanted to throttle more than one when I hear them tell patients stupid things), but it's always important to use the surgeon as a source of info BEFORE asking strangers on the internet.

In my head I know it's a load of garbage, but it hurt my heart that she would say something so negative to me when I was obviously excited. She just kind of rained on my parade, you know? It's hard because we've been good friends for over 10 years. Everyone else in my life has been so supportive, and she is the only one in the back whispering "you can't do this"
    I guess I'll show her

I had surgery last Monday and was at the mall on Wednesday and back to work Thursday. Now this is just me and I know everyone is different. I did everything the doctor said to do. I walk a lot, every two hours. I stretched, coughed, turned, and breathed to get rid of the gas pain. I set up my 64oz of liquid including 16 oz of Isopure every morning so I know what I have to finish by day end. And, although I could drink plain Water all day because I like it I add in a hot tea into my 64oz to mix it up. But, what I really attribute my short "recovery" too is my mental outlook on it. I didn't want to be laid up for weeks, my family needed me and I needed our routine to get better. The thought of being out of commission worried me more than the actual surgery. I went into my surgery with the attitude that I was only staying one night and only taking off three days from work and I did just that. I won't lie I am tired earlier in the evening than before and it is taking me longer to walk a mile then it used to but I'm doing it. Do what feels best for you, none of us know your body or your tolerances and don't forget your mind game it could be your strongest tool going into your procedure. Good luck!

You guys are all awesome! I still think you're crazy but awesome lol. I had the sleeve and I know what it's like at work and I just still can't imagine going back. I don't sit at all during the day except for my lunch break. Should be interesting. We shall see here in a few weeks. I'm just looking for energy to shower everyday at the moment.
