I am told to do 6 weeks or more on 3rd stage of pre op diet. I am losing a ton of weight on low carb I wonder if they will know the difference. I have to lose 40lbs and I have already lost 20lbs in a little less than a month on low carb. Sent from my SPH-L720 using the BariatricPal App

    Hi Everyone,
Thanks to all of you who have replied to me it is great to know I have support this has been a hard decision for me struggled with my weight for years I have tried a weight management scheme here in the UK but it was not for me the surgeon as said 2 weeks for liver shrinkage is good but 3 weeks are better if you can do it so that's what I am aiming for I have tried the lighter life shakes and bars for about 6 months it is expensive about £10 a day in the UK but it is not the answer so have now chosen to go down the gastric bypass route privately in the UK my date is the 24th may and liver shrinkage starts at he end of this month watching all the threads the amount of information is amazing it feels like one big family here within this group I am glad I joined thanks again to everyone who has given me advice and support

Kids are very intuitive!!! I have a 5 year old and I just explained to him that mommy was going to the hospital. I told him that the Dr was going to help mommy feel better (I was also suffering from back issues due to weight gain). He understood. I just kept it simple. I also told him that mommy would need him to be her hepler for a little while until I was not achy anymore. He loved that part! MahoganySlim

    Hi Fireman,
It is natural that you should be scared and have anxieties, you are about to have surgery. But you have to look at the bigger picture you are going through this process so that you can be a healthy weight, and hopefully not suffer from any of the ailments that come with being overweight, which in the worse case can be fatal.
I had surgery on 6 Feb this year, and trust me I was petrified, I considered cancelling, but my best friend said to me do I want to be here for my children, who are 22 and 12 and my Grandchildren who I don't even have yet. Yes I do, I owe it to them and most of all myself. Only you can take control of your weight and your health and by what you have said you are doing a great job.
Everyone is different, but having had the surgery I can say it sounds worse than it is, I had very little pain and today five weeks out I am fine totally back to normal, apart from the fact I can only eat very small portions of food and it's great, I have lost 35lbs since my two week pre op diet and today and I feel fantastic.
I'm not gonna say you will be fine, because I don't know, but I think you will be, life is about taking risks, and this risk is so worth it, this surgery is one of the safest you can have. Feel the fear but do it anyway. Good luck!!! And let me know how you get on.

All of you are going to do great! The pre op diet just flat out sux. I cheated on mine too. Guess what!!!!!! I am about four months post op and I am successful!!!!!! Stick to the plan and this will work. After surgery you won't want to eat anyway right off the bat. The sleeve will do its job. I get hungry, but fill up really quickly. I love my sleeve!!!!!!!!!! I have to make myself eat to get in all my Protein as before I had to make myself not eat.

Definitely just your emotions getting the better of your right now, which is completely normal at this point. You have a big life change ahead. I am sure you have tried and failed to lose weight/keep it off many times in the past (like all of us) and there is going to be that little voice in the back of your mind telling you this will be no different. The self-doubt is SO DEEPLY ingrained in those of us who have struggled with our weight all our lives. It can be hard to overcome, especially in times of high stress, like right now when you are only days away from surgery.
You have to hang in there and try your hardest. I think the best way to do that is to focus on the next minute or next hour, instead of thinking too far ahead and letting yourself get overwhelmed. Focus on your Protein shakes. Focus on your work. Maybe make some checklists or a calendar of your food stages or something to help you prepare for post-op. Focusing in on the minutia keeps you from thinking too much about the big picture and getting overwhelmed.

Hi! I'm having my surgery on March 11th! I'm on day 5 of my 2 week pre-op liquid diet. I'm so excited and anxious at the same time and can't wait for this to be over already! Not going to lie but this liquid diet is BRUTAL the first few days! My doctor actually allowed me to have sugar free Jello and broth as well as a small lean cuisine meal or 3 ounces of food in the evening.
This has definitely been quite the journey getting to this point! I'm 5'8 and 305, my height at weight in a long time. I'm 38 and not trying to die before my time. I've been overweight my whole life despite trying EVERYTHING to lose it! I would very much love having more people in my corner who understand what I'm going through and will be going through afterwards!

Hi everyone! I am BRAND new to this forum. I am looking for support, encouragement, and advice... I think I have come to the right place! I am going through the Bariatric process with Kansas City Bariatric. I have been working with my case manager for over a year, fulfilling requirements and preparing. I am so flippin' excited I could scream!
With that excitement comes some anxiety. I've been waiting for so long... It's finally real now! My surgery has been approved and scheduled for 3/30. I was given a binder with very specific pre-op and post-op instructions. I plan on following the guidelines to a "T"... I love having things written down and in front of me.
My biggest issue over the years has been my huge appetite. I am ready to be DONE with this and get BACK to the gym and BACK to my life! I am so happy to be able to use this tool to help me succeed.
I am 5'4 and 275lbs. I'm 25 years old. I'm going to my pre-op appt on 3/10 and my liquid diet starts on 3/23.
I know this isn't going to be easy. It'll be tough and I might be wondering if I made the right choice at first... But I KNOW this is right for me.
Is anyone else having surgery this month and wanting to talk? I'm cool with sharing anything from my binder or anything I have heard while going through my program over the last year. I'm cool with everything! Lol. Let's talk!
