  1. Hi all, I am three years out of bypass surgery (2016). March of 2017 I had emergency surgery for an internal hernia and removal of scar tissue that caused a blockage, October 2018, emergency surgery for resection of small intestines and November 2018 another emergency surgery for a complete blockage. Anybody else have these kind of issues. Is it related to the bypass. My surgeon says no, my husband thinks differently. Thanks.
  2. I too face the dreaded take a small taste and if no unpleasant reaction then it’s ok to have a little more. My horrible habit is sucking the seasoning off chips or Doritos the spitting out the soggy chips. It’s disgusting. I also discovered skinny lattes at Starbucks. Big mistake! They are not so skinny. I had to finally just stop altogether as I can’t handle it. I’ve gone back to what I did when I first reached my goal weight. Strict control, tracking and measuring. I can’t let myself go back to where I started. WLS was a gift that I will never receive again.

    Surgery and liquid diet

I was on optifast for 4 weeks presurgery. Had 5 shakes a day and never cheated once. I knew if I didn’t lose weight at this time my surgery would be cancelled. It want worth it to cheat. Besides cheating on diets is what got me into this mess. Good luck.
  4. Awesome!!! Best gift I ever received. It has been two glorious years and am maintaining my weight. I feel and look 10 years younger. I have one issue due to scar tissue but that was me and not result of surgery.
  5. WLS was6/21/2016. Last time I had sweets junk food bread pasta potatoes and soda was 5/23/2016! I don’t miss it at all. I lost 152 lbs and will never go back. Don’t focus on what you may never have again but focus on what you have gained good luck to you.

    Any regrets??

No regrets. WLS was 6/21/2016, 154 lbs lost. You cannot regret saving your health and changing your life.
  7. I too was s Diet Coke addicted. I never drank coffee but my Diet Coke took its place. I'm proud to say I have not had soda since 5/23/16. I do not miss it. I tried a sip of a flat one right after surgery and it was awful. I drink crystal light now instead and have no problem staying hydrated. It does have to be ice cold so I invested in a 30 oz Yeti tumbler.
  8. Hi, I just passed my one year surgiversary and I wanted to offer up my thoughts on what this passed year has brought. My day of surgery weight was 285. My current weight is 138.5. I have read a lot of the forums and was surprised to see how many folks had regrets. I can honestly say I have none even though I had to have another surgery to fix an internal hernia and remove lesions. I feel blessed that I was given this tool, yes, it is only a tool. It is not a magical procedure that miraculously makes you thin and fixes all the problems in your life. Your struggle with obesity still continues long after surgery. The hard work really begins once you resume eating every day foods. I have not had soda (including diet), cakes, cookies, bread, pasta, potatoes, chips, any type of junk food, processed meats, etc since a month prior to my June 2016 surgery. Do I miss it? Not really as the trade off is much sweeter than any cookie. Instead of indulging in food, I can indulge in a smaller sized wardrobe. I do cook for my family and bake. I have become a master at washing my hands off as soon as I get icing, or cake batter or cookie dough on my fingers. I don't take tastes of these things either. I know it is a very slippery slope and these types of food are triggers to bad behavior for me. I struggle with the same bad habits that I had when I was heavier. These habits do not disappear with the rerouting of your internal plumbing. You have to look within yourself and decide what you want the outcome of this surgery to be. I wanted to be healthier and feel better about myself. I know that being happier about myself would spill over to family and friends. I am more confident about myself which has benefited me at work. If you are contemplating the surgery, go for it! If you are regretting the surgery, don't! Look at it as a gift that will keep on giving as you become healthier, more confident and ready to take on the world. This is a once in life time opportunity. Thank you.

    Powdered Peanut Butter!

Oh my gosh!! I love this stuff. I can't tolerate regular peanut butter and this is a great substitute. I put it in my smoothies and carnation instant breakfast ( no sugar added). Sometimes I eat it as a powder for a snack. It is great and a main staple of my diet.
  10. I make dinners and deserts for my family. My trick is to immediately wash my hands if anything gets on them, do not lick. I also keep in mind the dumping syndrome. I know what it feels like when you are trying new foods and you get sick. I also love how I look since I lost weight (not trying to sound conceited). After being heavy all my life, I don't want to give up how I feel about my self now. I keep up with my fluids and try to find foods that I can have and enjoy. This is no lie, Taco Bell pinto's and cheese is my staple. They give you relatively small portions and I season them with taco seasoning, garlic or onion powder and they are delicious. I also make a conscious effort in determining how full I feel and usually do not eat the last bite as then it pushes me into feeling stuffed. Oikos 21gram nonfat blended fruit yogurt (available at my local Walmart) is also one of my go to foods. When I find myself drifting towards old habits, I think of how good I feel and the new clothes I bought and get right back on track. I only started working out consistently a short while ago and do one mile walking videos which helps as well. Sometimes, you think you are hungry when in fact you are very thirsty. When you feel hunger, try drinking more Fluid. Good Luck!
  11. Surgery date was 6/21/2016, day of surgery weighed 261, after losing 24 pounds pre-op. As of today, my weight is 167. My goal is to be 145.

    Anyone over 60 years?

I'm 61, 5 months out and have lost 90 lbs so far. Tell your mom it's never too late and don't live the rest of her life regretting not getting the surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
