Pup got a reaction from Frustr8 in Exhausted/Tired
Hello Lisa, fatigue can be brutle at the beginning figuring out how to eat and how to get enough to drink and still have that time lapse you need in between. It gets better, keep sipping [emoji5] I am 2 years post bypass surgery...I started at 224 and I'm at 140 now... I still struggle at times with taking an hour break after I eat before I drink again. I stop beating myself up about it a long time ago though and just do my best. I feel very healthy.
I wish you luck with your journey.

I could just re-write everything you just said. I have all those same feelings. SO 224 CW 140

The only thing I could add is that, for me, I'm very uncomfortable from the attention I get now ....I don't mean from guys hitting on me or anything like that. It's all the people I see at the store, restaurants, bars etc... complimenting me and asking what my secret is. I'm happy where I'm at and I feel amazing, but I'm not proud.

So sorry.. this is a VERY long update on what I have been doing these last several months!!

    GOALS -
My goal is 145 now... It was originally 150 but now that I am dancing between 147-149, I changed my goal to 145.

    EXERCISE -
After surgery I never worked out, although I wish I did. I am doing random TaeBo here and there, but nothing serious..
I do find it a lot easier to jog now. I jog to my car from my apartment sometimes to get something I need. Before I didn't make it all the way without running out of air but now it's SO easy.

    WEIGHT -
My weight hasn't changed since December... Would I call that a stall? I don't know because I'm very happy at my current weight although I would like to lose 20 more pounds because when I get pregnant, I'll want to gain weight without a worry... Yes, I will try to get pregnant soon before the recommended 18 months. I've discussed it with my doctor. I am more than excited I will finally be a mother hopefully before I turn 35 which is when it's high risk for birth defects.

    FOOD -
I eat a lot when my period is coming and regular on non period days.. but I never gain weight... I hardly eat sweets.. I just snack on fruits and veggies.. mostly jicama or mangos.. I drink AT LEAST 32oz of Water day. I have the very low calorie orange juice sometimes because I get tired of water. I also drink coffee here and there. It's good and I can't stop.

    DUMPING -
I only get pre-dumps now... I usually know when to stop.. when I eat sugar such as coffee, cakes, chocolate, Cookies I get the pre-dumps... I don't eat too many sweets but during that special week, I can't help myself. I have absolutely no problems with Constipation, reflux or any other complications.. the only thing I get is pre-dumps after I cause them after sweets.. I always know when to stop eating regular food but when it comes to sweets... I don't know.. also, I experienced what it means for food to get stuck.. I had eaten an orange at the time. It was the worst pain ever. Very different from dumping. The last time I had full on dumping episode was back October. I had to leave work early.

    CLOTHES -
My brain doesn't believe I am 100 pounds lighter and when I shop, I shop like a plus sized woman.. I am now a size 8/9 which is what I always wanted.. but when I see clothes, my brain says... "Ummmm no, you'll need at least a 12/13 and that will for you tight.." how do I get my brain to believe my eyes!? I bought my first bathing suit size 10-12. When I received it in the mail I tried it on and it was too big. So I got a 6-8 and a 8-10.. my brain keeps telling me that I won't fit the 6-8 but my eyes tell me I'll look hot!

    OTHER -
My regular doctor officially changed my chart to normal weight.. it was a big deal for me and I am very happy about it.
My loose skin never bothered me before but now it's starting to bug me. My butt looks like a deflated balloon.. [emoji17] after I have a baby/ies, I plan on dancing around the idea of a butt lift and definitely a breast lift..
I'm still not used to people telling me they want to be skinny like me. Or implying that I am skinny.. it's so new to me.. I was carried by a man for the first time in my life. It was amazing.. I felt like a princess..
Chairs.. I am able to sit in a chair with handles and not feel pain!! In fact, there is space.. and I can always sit Indian style ANYWHERE I sit..
I'm always cold, sometimes I feel pain when I sit because there's no meat/cushion protecting my bones from piercing my skin. I also feel that kind of pain on my shoulder blades. I can see my bones!!! My ribs.. it's truly amazing..

Please let me know your updates and what you guys have been through such as dumping, appearance thoughts, what do you guys eat?

Sashimi was one of my favorite sources of Protein when I was first back on solid foods. I stay away from rice completely, but still have sashimi quite often. Most of the sushi "rolls" typically have some sugar component in the the sauces in addition to the rice so you need to watch for that as it will most likely be astray from your post-op diet provided by your surgeon/NUT.

Yes siree bub. I just turned 60, and as kids were told, guilted really,, that we had to finish everything on our plate because "children were starving in Korea.", so I did.

Not only that, but I finished everyone else's plate as well.

Saving children in both north and south Korea was my goal.

Congratulations, you are reading my mind. I had my surgery on Jan 30, and I am down 34 lbs from my pre-op weight. I second your opinion that this is the best thing I have done for myself. I have so much more energy now.

It also has a dehydrating effect on the body. Working hard to keep the Water intake up! Caffeine works against that.

Unless a person is taking caffeine pills, the Water content of whatever beverage they are getting their caffeine from will be sufficient to counteract the diuretic affects.
Of course, this does not necessarily cover the poisonous "energy" drinks. But coffee and even Mt Dew have enough water to counteract the caffeine. The bigger concern with pop would be the sodium content.

My NUT said no caffeine until after a month and then I'm able to if meeting my Water goals isn't a problem because caffeine dehydrates you you have to replace it with the same amount of water, so if I have a 16 oz coffee I need to add 16 oz of water on top of my 64 oz liquid goal.

I asked my surgeon and she said it had a lot of acid in it. Bad early on before your stitches heal. Potentially bad if you have or develop acid reflux. I took 6 months off and drink 2 cups in the morning and an ice coffee every day.

My surgeon is 100 percent fine with coffee. Do I have six cups a day? No. I have one cup, or I take a Premier Protein to the coffee shop, have them steam it for me and add a shot of espresso.

I know that there are many differing opinions/advice on this, and in the end you have to do what's right for your personal situation. My NUT and surgeon both have no problems with caffeine from coffee or tea, but from day 1 have been adamant about not having soda or energy drinks...
I will tell you that caffeine hit me a lot harder after the surgery than it ever did before. I believe that's because it's going through your system and into your body much faster, but that's a personal experience, and I'm sure everyone's is different.
    Best of luck!

My Dr said because it is an appetite stimulant.

I told him it had the exact opposite effect on me. I have had caffeine since week one. No issues at all. And I have had coffee the whole time. I drink probably 6-10 cups of coffee a day.

You can't dehydrate yourself with coffee. Science has debunked that so many times.

    http://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2014/01/13/262175623/coffee-myth-busting-cup-of-joe-may-help-hydration-and-memory

There is a NY times article that I don't have the time to find but there are like 10 scientific notations in it.

Anyway fluids are fluids, You would have to drink gallons of coffee to get enough caffeine to dehydrate you.

My NUT of course prefers if we'd stay away from it forever, but they mainly want you off of it in the beginning because it's a diuretic. Since it can be such a challenge to get all of your fluids in the beginning they don't want you flushing it out of your system quickly. My NUT had a policy that if you were going to drink caffeine you had to drink extra to "replace" it. Meaning if you drank 1 cup of coffee you would need to drink an extra cup of Water to compensate for it.

I've tried having a little bit of regular coffee and it has not sat well with me so far, and I was a coffee junkie. Decaf hasn't been a problem, so I can only attribute the blah feeling being from the caffeine. I've done a few pots that were 1/4 regular coffee and 3/4 decaf and have been good. Over time I plan to increase it to half and half.
