  1. I love lima Beans, black beans, refried beans. eat some kind of bean almost every day. don't sit downwind. :-)
  2. well for crying out loud Jamie! that's gonna hit me right at Thanksgiving/Christmas. y'all are going to have to help me around then!
  3. I suppose the good news is if needed I could always have bypass later. but, I am hoping that my habits will be changed and my weight significantly lower. I was not morbidly obese before I started a sedentary job, and within 5 years I hope I will be back to being a homemaker full time and therefore more active just in the daily routines of my life. Time will tell. I think it all boils down to what do you really want? and THANK YOU for posting the whole article. I appreciate not having to go look somewhere else.
  4. there are other reasons you could be loosing hair - and I think I would want to speak to my PCP about it. at this point I would not think it had anything to do with the weight loss surgery.
  5. Right? it's pretty much a moot point for me for this reason.
  6. I could scream. I am tied with weight for my husband. ALL I WANT IN LIFE right now is to weigh LESS than the darn man. if I could have just stalled a couple of pounds lower, it would be so much easier to take. grumble grumble.
  7. I remember the hubs saying it took longer and the doctor came to talk to him. Because I had the lymph node scare last year he wanted to take a look at my abdominal lymph nodes to make sure they were normal before doing the actual sleeve. I have no idea though. best nap I've had in a long time. :-)
  8. I was on 4 metformin a day - and still had what seemed to me, higher blood sugars. between 130 and 150. Stopped meds 2 days before surgery. My last A1c before surgery was 6.5, and at one month post op on no medication it was 6.0. I am hoping that by 3-6 months I will be able to drop the diabetes diagnosis completely! This was my main motivation for surgery. I am also on BP meds, and they have been cut in half with excellent BP.
  9. Alex. you are such a grown up. :-) I mean that in the nicest possible way.
  10. you are fabulous. :-)
  11. Please allow me to share some inspiration with you this morning. This is my Uncle Stan. The first picture is at my grandmas 90th birthday. It is shortly before he had the sleeve. Kidney disease, heart issues, diabetes. I honestly thought we might not have him long. The second picture is last weekend. Grandma is 93. He has lost I would guess half his extra weight. He is almost 70. In those three years he has fought off kidney cancer and had that kidney removed. His wife is in hospice with colon cancer. If he can change his life I won't let my issues stop me. he is also teaching me to keep trying for my goal - but not to get hung up on it. he only lost half yet his life is completely changed, and probably saved. he is teaching me that it is going to be ok as long as I keep going, keep trying.
  12. it is hard to say. I got serious about using it about the time he went into the group home - so the stress was down. It did make less breaking and less dry hair, and the grow back was thicker and healthier. I suppose this surgery will be a true test for it! However, last year I was quite ill with something in my abdominal lymph nodes - very stressful on my body and nutrition and I did not experience hair loss, so I am cautiously optimistic.
  13. I have not gone through this since surgery however, my hair fell out and got extremely thin several years ago during an extremely stressful situation (my son, who is disabled went into a mental institution and then a group home) I started using WEN shampoo, and my hair has been in the best shape it has ever been in. Waiting to see if I will loose hair - I am only 6 weeks out so not close to three months yet. I do use a mousse for fullness because even while it is back to normal normal for me is fine and soft.
  14. I moved around without difficulty. I was walking for about 10 minutes every hour I was awake. Helps with any gas pain. I wasn't in a lot of pain, I was tired, and I felt like I was constantly sipping. :-) Water, bone broth and sugar free Popsicles.
  15. Congrats and thanks for posting! my starting weight at surgery was 238 and I can't even imagine being that low. I have set my goal at 160 because I can't even wrap my mind about getting to 130........... so we'll start with 160 and see where I can go from there. Your post is very helpful to me to see that it took a while to get to goal, and I need to just keep doing what I am supposed to do and it will come.
  16. so - one thing I do is when I cook a healthy meal for me (tonight it is grilled chicken breast and lima Beans - I cook enough to put 2-3 small plates for me in the freezer - so on busy week nights if I am hungry I can grab a plate of something, thaw it out and an easy healthy preportioned meal is ready. I will usually do a couple with larger servings for the hub. a second thing I do is brown turkey/ground beef early in the week with just salt, pepper, garlic. This can easily make a big mac salad (with appropriate amounts of each topping for my needs) or it can make a red sauce that they can have on Pasta, and I can have as is. or it can make a little nacho topping and I just have it without the chips. I think if you plan ahead you can do a good job with your week night meal prep and not feel pushed to the limit.
  17. I'm only down 25. but, it will come.
  18. You are one of the most helpful people here.
  19. you can have ginger tea, which could be very helpful for you. and, if you need to have a few crackers for a couple of days it will be fine too.
  20. I had the surgery due to diabetes and high blood pressure. when I check my sugar and it is normal on no meds, that is my motivation. :-) the weight loss is a very nice side effect.
  21. I didn't have this issue after my sleeve but I sure had it after my hysterectomy last August. Are you still on pain or nausea meds? it was the medication they gave me in my pain pump that caused me to be itchy until I got it out of my system.
  22. thank you for your reply and concern. I certainly don't think surgery is a magic cure - and I do not know how successful I will be long term - but I know without the surgery I would have 0 chance. how do I know? I was riding that rollercoaster for decades. :-) and, if I still loose and gain but it is 70 pounds less than my current loose and gain, I will still consider that a success.
  23. I was on soft foods at two weeks and regular food since 1 month. only thing I haven't had yet is raw veg, which will try soon.
  24. I am always somewhat amused by the irony of someone chastising and berating someone else because they feel the person chastised and berated someone else. pot, meet kettle.................. I am sorry this happened to the OP. I hope it turns out to be a blessing anyway, even if it is not the way you wanted things to go.
