  1. I made chili before hand (well. I make it quite often anyway) and froze some in small dishes for me, and I made my own bone broth which is much more flavorful than store bought. :-) it was nice to have on hand afterwards - but my favorite thing was sugar free outshine Popsicles.
  2. 1. get the psych eval done and get approved. once approved for my insurance the approval was good for 12 months. you can check to see how long yours would be good for. You will have to decide to do this or not no matter how his feelings may vacillate. it was hard. David wanted me to have a healthy life, and the risks of surgery are scary, but not likely. 2. Don't ever put something off you need done because of work. My supervisor asked me to wait because we had another girl out on FMLA, and wanted me to wait for her to return. Guess what? she decided to retire. So glad I didn't wait. For me, I knew the weight was not going to stay off any other way and I did not want to spend the rest of my life as a diabetic. I am very happy with my decision and looking forward to seeing what the next year brings.
  3. so my question for the OP, do you think no one WLS or not, should ever consume alcohol? it is a toxin for everyone, afterall. I do enjoy an occasional drink - and hope I will tolerate that again once I get to my maintenance level, however if I no longer care for it that will not be the end of the world for me either, but some of my friends will get lovely presents.
  4. Falls are so scary, ISG! I have fallen a number of times in my adult life due to a vision impairment that affects my judgement of distance. I'm a little old granny going down stairs.
  5. my husband and I eloped - so no wedding pictures. Next February is our 20th anniversary, it would be lovely to have a picture taken. What am I looking forward to? well. I'd like to go horseback riding with my daughters. I am already enjoying walking the dog more often. I want to chase my grandkids around the yard and play ball with them, ride bikes with them. I have a lot of ideas for our yard that I have been slow to implement due to fatigue, it'd be nice to move forward at a faster clip with them.
  6. I don't think you get kicked off - but I don't know what you would expect to gain or to add to the discussion from being on the forum ? wishing you both all the best though!
  7. please get the name of the office manager and speak to that person about what you are going through. I work at a doctors office and sometimes the manager can review things and make sure what is being asked is truly needed and if so help you move the process along sooner. my path to surgery hit a medical snag that tied me up for a year, and made me jump through several hoops. I was heartbroken several times, but I finally had surgery in February. Hopefully you will be posting here this year with a success story too. I know how hard it is.
  8. glad to hear it. right now I am sure enjoying my cuppa!
  9. my doctor and nut said alcohol would not hurt me once I am fully healed. I like whiskey, and I like wine, especially red. but these early months are when I am loosing weight the best and I am not going to waste the carbs in the first 6 months. I tended to have a drink oh, 2-3 a month - and I cook with wine. Once I am down in my weight it will just have to be factored in to my "carb allowance" and, practice at home - I sure won't have my first drink in public. I think this will also be my only exception to not drinking while eating. Because it will be a special occasion, I think it's better to have a little food in my tummy. Talk to your team, see what they recommend based on your personal medical history, medications, and surgery type.
  10. oh yes. Lucky me in April! Tennessee is gorgeous now! but I've spent some time in England in July and it is magnificent! I have had many happy rambles in the midlands area. :-) Darn dog ran away again this morning, but I did walk her yesterday afternoon.
  11. I have had to take a diuretic for several years for edema. After surgery I was off it for a month till I could show I was taking in enough Water. When I went back on it I lost almost 8 pounds. not nearly as dramatic as you - but I had a couple of days of tiredness and lightheadedness. rest when you need to rest.
  12. I have a really nice SACHI bag with room for an ice pack and 2 meals and Snacks. I am good for all day when I get to work, and do not need to fight for the refrigerator space. I can't believe how many coworkers put their insulated lunch bags in the fridge closed. anyway. I like to use my real flatware and dishes and a cloth napkin. :-) mine is this style, but a black and white gingham print. http://www.sachi-bags.com/fun-hoot.html
  13. I have been walking so much that yesterday the dog ran away from me when I was putting on my walking shoes............
  14. thank God the diuretic is working! I bet you are feeling a lot better! hopefully you will soon be back to normal and walking up a storm.
  15. for me it is Calcium supplements that constipate me. I eat 1/3 of an apple daily or no sugar apple sauce and I take dulcolax - 1 daily a second one at home if it has been 3 days with no bm.
  16. well. yes, I would hope for better for them and us. however. from 600 to 300 is not most or all of her weight. and is still, I would think, a significant health benefit. For Ashley, 60 pounds is still way less than before. We have to stick with the moving our bodies and eating Protein first. We have to view this is a forever lifestyle change. I do have a friend who had bypass over 10 years ago, and while her weight fluctuates some, she has not gone back to being obese, ever. if anything she leans towards the dangerously low end. it all hinges on personal responsibility *if* I do gain it all back after 10 years, I will still see it as giving me a good 10 years I wouldn't have otherwise had. and, I would still have the tool to work it again.
  17. That's okay. It gave me an excuse to come back here and look at @@Dub gams again! me too. ha.
  18. well. the answer is, who knows? it is going to vary from person to person. I am 46 and so far my skin there is just fine. other's have issues. will I have more sagging as I go to goal? I don't know. I do take salmon oil - and I think fish oil is beneficial to skin health, so you might look at that and other skin helping supplements. not a dumb question at all.
  19. I have the standard Federal BCBS and it was about a week I think. I got the letter from them faster than the call from my clinic.
  20. when my weight loss has slowed way down, I get very hungry right before I loose a good bit. it's kind of weird. but it works. and I second that what matters is that you are eating quality food not junk. my surgery was also in February.
  21. it was found when I was trying to prepare for surgery with a high WBC. I had stabbing pains in my belly, some swelling in my belly. PET scans and cat scans showed "stranding" in the tissue that holds my small intestine in place. mostly belly pain, fatigue and diarrhea were the symptoms I was dealing with. It was either an infection (ruled out) or cancer (probably ruled out) or most likely the sclerosing mesenteritis. I finally got symptoms under control enough to get one normal WBC so they went ahead with my sleeve, but I will have a cat scan again in July as they will continue to watch me closer. check out Peggy Cappy's yoga for the rest of us. she makes people feel more comfortable and always has three examples, one easy, one normal and one advanced so it is easy to follow along.
  22. I probably have sclerosing mesenteritis. I say probably because they would have to biopsy my lymph nodes deep in my belly to find out for sure and that has been more risk than benefit. I just had surgery so some things I do not know - but my weight loss has been good just from walking. I love to swim but don't have access in the winter/spring. As for weight training, see if there are any yoga poses you can do - use your body. you can probably manage 5 wall push ups which are easier on you than a regular push up - get creative! just do what you can and I am sure it will help.
  23. that is going to vary from person to person. for me 4-6 days.
  24. walk walk walk and sip sip sip is the best way to resolve the issue whether it is fluids from iv or gas.
  25. I take a probiotic pill, went back on it when I got home - but I do also use a stool softener. I was getting a lot of my Protein from cheese early on, now that I am eating more meat I may be able to discontinue the stool softener. However, I personally think everyone should be on a probiotic all the time, so I have no plans to discontinue that. the fizzy you will need to ask the doctor about.
