Liver & gallbladder flush
I do not know - but I will say that for some years I do a spring course with milk thistle, and in the autumn for liver support.

Is Eating Fruit Like Eating Candy?
thanks for this article! this is the approach my bariatric team uses too. and as a person who had the surgery to combat diabetes I have to admit, fruit scared me. I had given up most fruit as a diabetic because I could not control my blood sugar if I had anything beyond berries. I almost cry now when I "indulge" in a piece of fruit and my blood sugar remains normal. (a few apple slices and reduced fat string cheese is my morning snack right at this moment!) at 6 months my A1c is 5.4. it almost feels like a miracle to me.

Parkinson's Disease and WLS
I wonder how her appetite would be affected by the sleeve as the condition worsens? my father in law died of parkinsons last year and honestly the last 8 years or so he was increasingly malnourished despite our best attempts because of swallowing issues and just not wanting food. I can't see a doctor approving this kind of surgery unless the Parkinson's was very early.

Ten months out.......tried some Diet Pepsi.......
I have been drinking Water, coffee and Vitamin water zero. only two of the latter per day. but my B Vitamins are high so I have to give up the vitamin water....... boo ! I am going to have to figure out making my own lemonaid with stevia or something. Good warning not to try the diet soda!

Stomach stretching
a pouch is quite different than the part of the stomach left after the sleeve. they remove most of the stretchy part of the stomach when they make the sleeve.

Professional Wardrobe
I wear a pair of Clark's mary janes for work. look good with a skirt or pants and have no heel. Jjill's wherever line has sometimes a line skirts or gored skirts - and come in women's sizes and are very comfortable. they can be pricey - so I watch for sales. Don't know if there is a store near you where you could feel them and get an idea if you like them. they wash and wear very well.

BMI too high for gastric bypass...so Sleeve it is
the good thing is that you will likely be successful with the sleeve. if it does not get you where you want to be perhaps you will be low enough to revise to the bypass if needed. I think that's how the sleeve began.

Feeling a weird stretchy pain on my left side.
you can't stretch your sleeve drinking liquids. I don't personally think you can stretch it much anyway, as the stretchy part is what is gone. food is more likely to squeeze out the top than anything else if you try to overeat. as the surgical swelling goes down you will be able to drink more and more until finally you are able to drink like a normal person again. as to the other, I had all sorts of various pains like you describe in the period after surgery. if it is worrysome, feel free to call your practice.

WLS Failure?
I don't know that I would consider anyone who tries a failure. but I have a cousin who lost a lot of weight post RNY, most of her excess weight and has put it back on. However, she struggles with a lot of physical pain due to other medical conditions and is on a lot of medication that influences her food choices. what did she have to loose? and who knows where she would have been without the surgery? maybe a couple of hundred pounds heavier than she is now. so I just don't know. my heart hurts for her and anyone else who has a less of a result than they needed, no matter what the reason.

How do you look normal?
it's really not too big of a deal anymore. at 6 months out my meals look pretty normal except I pass on the potato/pasta/rice/dessert part. no one else really pays any attention to how much or what I am eating. I have the meat, and any veg and enjoy the company. it takes me as long to eat that as it takes others to eat their larger amount. even though it is a small portion, there are a lot of people out there who do not eat a whole awful lot at a time. if anyone were to comment I would probably just say "thank you, I've got exactly what I wanted - I'm happy with my meal" if they said it's not much, are you ok, I would just say yes, I'm perfectly happy with my meal.

Umm, how do you tell your daughter she might need this?
it seems a lot of people have been hurt by these kinds of conversations. So at the end of it I would say it is going to depend on your relationship with your daughter. I knew my Dad loved me - I mean head over heels, unreasonably NUTS for his daughters - come what may, no matter if I made the "right" or "wrong" choice - no matter my weight or how I looked. I am sure that is not true for everyone. I come from a family where just about every topic has always been discussed, and health issues are no exception. love and acceptance is guaranteed and best intentions are assumed. I would guess that is not always true for everyone and I know how fortunate I am. let us know how you get on with this. I am certainly encouraging of more people looking into and having this surgery. It has changed my life!

Protein goals and hair loss
most of the time I meet my goals. one thing is I eat eggs quite often in the morning - which has a lot of nutrients needed for good hair. I haven't lost any excessive amounts of hair at 6 months out. I lost quite a bit a number of years ago when my son moved into a group home, that was a very stressful time. (so much that I thought I would need a wig) I have not really allowed this wild ride to stress me out too much. nor did I cut calories too severely. I just followed the guidelines I was given, and it will come off as it comes off. I think stress - ether extremely low calories for a long time, or emotional stress over the process likely has something to do with it, but that is just going by my own personal experience.

Unjury is so nasty
oh, I like it real well. for the strawberry one I mix it with fairlife milk and some ice cubes. sometimes 1/3 of a banana. I know some mix it with a sugar free lemonaid like vitmain Water zero.

Fall from grace :(
I am sorry to hear about all your troubles. the only thing I can say is that my bariatric team suggested that I may consider Lexapro following my father's death if I need something because it is considered weight neutral. So perhaps you could talk to your doctor to see if that would be an appropriate change for you.

FMLA Forms
yes you should be able to apply for intermittent leave to cover your appointments. I had continuous FMLA for the surgery it's self and I have intermittent FMLA for a year to cover my doctors visits. for that same reason.

Struggling in social settings
let me encourage you that as time goes by this is a situation that resolves it's self. but for me personally? that first month I wanted to be at home with total control.

Coffee Intake
on the weekends coffee is a treat, a dessert, so not always, on work days? coffee is how I am able to use my grown up manners. I start my work day with a 20 ounce cup with a combo of fairlife milk and half and half and stevia. I'm not much use until I get at least half of it in my. notamorningperson.

Umm, how do you tell your daughter she might need this?
my kids do not struggle with their weight but all 4 boys have a condition called MEN 1. one of the outcomes if it is not treated is pancreatic cancer. My oldest son has made an educated decision to not pursue testing. He is almost 30. So I sure can't make him (edited - that should say treatment) we talk about it regularly. he does not have insurance and can't afford the exchange insurances and he will not be moved. but we do talk about it. I have to cry when he is not there so we can discuss respectfully. I have learned about charity care and have given him numbers and names of who to call. I think you absolutely can talk about it as long as it is done with love, and respect. I would just let it be a continuing, gentle conversation. health based. my Dad had diabetes. when I developed diabetes and wanted to pursue surgery he was all for me not having to deal with this anymore. His love and support, no matter my choices has always allowed me to bloom in my life. let us know how it goes.

Sleeve set for September 14
the only advice I have is to just focus on following whatever healthy "diet" you are on as you follow through the pre-op and post op stages - and let the scale take care of it's self. Unless the doctor says you have to loose x amount by this time, you are setting yourself up for frustrations if you try to impose timelines like that. and chin up! for the most part just about everyone is nervous.

How many times a day should you eat?
my practice recommends 3 small meals and Snacks in between if hungry or to meet goals. at six months out sometimes I need a Protein rich snack sometimes not. they do not want us having shakes past the first month on a regular basis, or relying on Protein Bars, but to get our nutrition from whole foods as much as possible. on work days, especially if I am the "late person" I end up packing my measured food for the WHOLE day, and just eating on it as I can since I do not really have control of when my meal and breaks will be. I know by bedtime, if I've eating/drank what I brought that I have met my goals within the calories as appropriate.

Funny Weight Loss Pictures & Quotes
- My first day mushie/soft - i was petrified
I think we are all scared to go to food! but it is important and you are doing well. I really liked refried Beans (touch down taco dip)at that stage, and yes, scrambled eggs with cheese. one tip is if you have a mug warmer that plugs in to keep your coffee hot you can put your wee portion in a small coffee cup, set it on there (or a small ramekin) and it will keep warm without drying out even if you take a half hour to eat your "meal"- Cravings
so sometimes I will satisfy that urge with various seasonings. one example I am very happy to have half a sauteed chicken breast with spag sauce and cheese and skip the Pasta. or ground meat (I use a mix of ground sirloin and ground turkey breast) with spag sauce and cheese. if I am craving a different kind of food I have different spices, same meats. When I want ice cream I have a sugar free popsicle. I love the outshine ones, strawberry is my fav. some people freeze greek yogurt with some stevia for the same idea, or you could add vanilla. When I am craving a candy bar I have a chocolate Protein bar. I like the power crunch. I do, on occasion have a small amount of popcorn with shredded reduced fat cheese melted on top. It's not all the time, but it doesn't seem to be a slider food for me. I can only eat a little bit and then I am stuffed. I measure it out, log it and move forward. at 9 weeks you should be healed enough that this would not be a problem. I was medically cleared for any kind of food at 4 weeks.- Really Regretting it.
have you called your bariatric team? you could have a stricture or something that can be corrected. please let us know how you get on.- Well hello Onederland!
congrats!!! - My first day mushie/soft - i was petrified
