dedicated2Abetterme, Im 18 mths post surjury, from Dr McHendry from Lapsurgery Australia in Boronia, he is probably the most experienced surgeon in melbourne with over 700 procedures behind him, I had private insurance which covered the first 2 thirds of the operation which in total came to about 15k, i was able to pay the rest with my super as it is deemed a health risk. Privately, you dont have to wait long. So where am I at, I have gone from 163kgs down to my current weight of 113kgs. I have experienced it all from top to bottom, not many lows, itsw worth doing and some, my anxiety was worse than the reality, Dr mcHendry does a great job on looking after his patients. So i cant eat as much any more but i still enjoy food, but take a look at me, also I wouldnt be employed in my current jobs if I carried the same weight, so go for it I say, you will be so glad you did.

Hey looking4support Im from the SE of melbourne, Ive been off the forum for a while, holidays and well afterwards you are busy getting on with your life. Ok a couple of things I dont think there is much difference between the various insurance companies, but remember you will probably have to have had the policy for at least 12 months, which means it may be better to stick with the company you have, or if you dont have insurance yet then it means having to wait 12mths. The good thing is that you can get it all done for basically nothing. Dont quote me on the exact prices but how I did it was private insurance covered two-thirds of the op 8-10k and then I was able to draw down on my super as obesity is considered a life threatening illness and that covered the other 4-5k. There is a straight forward process in applying for the use of your super and just requires alittle bit of support from your GP. As for surgeons, I cant recommend Ray McHenry from LapSurgery Australia enough, they are based in Boronia but there is about 3 private hospitals around melbourne he can operate out of, so you can pick the one closest to you. He has done this procedure over 600-700 times and has seen all eventualities. My kind of surgeon. Heres their ph no. 9760 2777. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have, but I have no reqrets at all. Regards Kiwi

I agree with those who have no interest in others condemnation, most people in here probably know when they mess up and are just looking to vent their own frustrations often without seeking comment or judgement. But all I can say is their must be alot of perfect people in by the crap they talk.

Hi everyone I've missed our updates heaps let's not leave it so long.
I've now lost 36kgs which is great however as fast as I buy clothes they don't fit anymore it's expensive haha
I just had a big work event over the weekend someone accidentally gave me a glass of sparkling Water I took a swig def can't drink carbonated drinks
you know sparking Water is one of the only things I crave for now as I use to love love it. I went to several work dinners lunches etc over the last week everyone just thought I didn't like the food due to not being able to eat much I just agreed however I thought I'd eaten a decent amount. They all ate 3 courses it was fine I didn't care. I had people I knew not recognise me and they were shocked having not seen me for 8 months everyone wanted to know what I was doing Ive not told work colleges.
we had a big work evening all our clients came I had so many people compliment me and wait for it I loved getting my photo taken yes I did. My water intake has been terrible I've not been drinking any and ive been slack on my 30 min before and after water this i find really hard. I've not felt good my arthritis is flared up and I've been in constant pain. We find out tomorrow if we've got the house we put an offer in on which we love so I've been quite stressed and nervous. The sleeve is not easy it's the hardest thing I've done but I feel the results so far have been worth every minute I do not feel hunger so I'm lucky this week I should hit under 80 kgs I've not been there in over 12 years.
Here is a photo of me from Saturday night just a head shot I'm honestly so proud of myself for being 100% to plan no bad food no Choc or chippies have passed these lips my face has slimmed down alot but I still have a wee way to go and I know for me
Keeping it off will be key that's the hard part and the true test

I'm already looking forward to my reconstructive surgery even though it won't be for a couple of years yet A lady I know just had hers 2 weeks ago. I didn't even know she had the sleeve till after I had mine. I'm friends with her mum and she told me, so now we keep in touch and she's a great support as she's been there done that.

Hi Demon. Wow close on the 40kg mark thats fantastic and this is really the reason we have all had the surgery and why we have to remind ourselves of during the down times. I have been on holiday for the past 3 weeks and so dont think I have lost much during that time (too much alcohol probably) but I have still lost around 33kgs so far. I find eating to be unsatisfying in general and something I do because I have too but its normally over pretty quickly. I also find myself wanting to eat every couple of hours and Im not sure thats a good thing. I have noticed I have gone off carbs abit but can eat most things in moderation. But my stomach never seems to be settled its either hungry or uncomfortable from eating.
BUT I love the weight loss and I hope I never take it for granted I do wish though that I had the ability to lose the weight without surgery but that isnt my story. I also have a big wobbly stomach now as well.

That's good news kiwijet 30 kgs is an amazing loss I agree 100% I could not have lost the weight I have in 3 months if not for the operation I think for me it was the best decision my health has been so much better I feel alive again I even have trouble sleeping in where as before could happily sleep half the day. I dont have nausea after eating I get the burps and feel uncomfortable if I eat to much
Nausea is not pleasant. Keep up the good work kiwijet

Welcome Betty tell me did you get the sleave?
I put an offer in on the house Shell, find out if its accepted tomorrow, fingers crossed for number 4. As far as eating I am struggling to cook small enough amounts for my new portion sizes so I often dont bother cooking at all. (Something I used to love to do)
But I am learning to enjoy pieces of fruit as a Meal Replacement or snack. As far as body size I have def dropped a dress size or two. But I still have abit if a belly. But I too am impatient too see results. I will have to wait to xmas yo get a look at what the end result will look like. I am lighter on my feet though and am finding physical activity alot easier than it was previously.

I also look to eat the meat first, followed by greens and other vegs. Have gone right off potatoes. For a small meal I mix greek yogurt with mixed berries and a touch of honey. I love Water more now then b4 especially if its cold and I im not as keen on carbonated drinks as i used to be. The only problem is having to take smaller sips and not being able to drink after eating. I still find my appetite fluxuates between not feeling too hungry to wanting to eat small amounts every couple of hours and feeling hungry again not long after.
Will I ever settle into this new world.
