AmyR got a reaction from Treadmillwalker in Lap band surgery
I had my surgery last March. Mine went very smoothly and I have lost 75 pounds since then. Post-op wasn't too bad. The first day, I mostlly slept off the anesthesia. The second day I just took it easy and only moved around when I had to. The worst of it for me was shoulder pain from the gas. Do not keep it in!! It gets better with time, but the shoulder pain will linger for a while. I had my procedure on Thursday and was back to work on Monday. Just wore elastic waist paints for a few days until I felt more comfortable. Good Luck! I hope all goes well for you!

I agree that your doctor should have given you some prescription pain killers for the first few days. It is only day 2. Take it easy, get some rest, stay hydrated and take pain medicine.

Thanks Amy, Ive managed to find some panedine forte laying around the house. The perception he gave me, saying that panadole would be fine has made me concerned that something may not be right. Im definately in a lot more than panadole pain :-/

I only told a few people before the surgery. Close family members and supervisors at work that needed to know. Also a few friends who had experience with lap-band and were a great support for my decision. That was a year ago and I have lost 75 pounds. Now when people ask about the "secret" to my weight-loss, I almost always admit to having lap-band procedure. But if they don't ask about it, then I just thank them for the compliment and move on. So, I feel like I'm not hiding it, but I'm not broadcasting it either.

I have a recipe for Chocolate-Peanut Butter Protein Bites. They are yummy little balls of goodness.
Take two scoops of chocolate Protein mix, 1 cup natural PB and any other mix-in you might like (oats, raisins, mini choc chips, etc) Mix this all together and form into bite-sized balls.
I keep mine in the freezer and unthaw when needed. Nice protein packed treat!

I have PCOS as well. I had tried everything to lose weight and keep it off. Finally, I found something to help me lose weight at a normal rate and keep it off. I was banded in March and have lost 65 pounds. I am in a strange position right now. My daughter is getting married on New Year's Eve. I have my dress and I'd like to stay at my current weight, so I don't have to get alterations to my dress. But I keep losing. Never had that problem before!!!

Your surgeon should have a chart on how you should feel, when you are at the right spot with your fills. In general, you will fill up on small portions and not be hungry again until the next meal time and maybe not even then. You will have some discomfort when you eat certain foods (mostly breads, carbs, etc..). That is what helps me stay away from those unhealthy foods. And you will be losing weight!!!
I will say that even without a change in my fill, there are changes inexplicable changes my band restrictions at any given time. Sometimes I can eat more than other. There are certain foods that bother me on a certain day, but I will have no problems with the next time I try them. So, give it sometime to settle in before you decide if you need more or less.
    Good Luck!

Thank you! I got a great report I have lost 11.5 pounds since surgery Which was 2 weeks ago. He said he was super proud of me. Since my journey has started I have lost a total of 40 pounds! And I will not get my first fill until December 1st and my band is completely empty he said! He told me I have definitely earned my Thanksgiving dinner lol. But I promised to still stick to it and I will. The first 4 days after surgery I'm not going to lie I thought I would die and I kept saying what have I done to myself I just made a huge mistake but now I could not be any happier that I went through with it and stuck to what they taught me. Now I know this is not just a dream anymore it is actually a reality and I could not be any happier!

good that your dietician is accessible on short notice. I went out with my husband while on purees, I find there is usually something. Luckily the had an amuse bouche with hummus, so I was able to have that and then I ordered french onion Soup, but avoided the bread and cheese and just ate the soup. Sounds like the lasagne worked for you. when I was on mushy foods I did make my own mini lasagnas at home with sauce, cottage cheese with a little mozza and a little parmesan mixed in and a little ground beef (no noodles) (baked them in the oven. going forward I'll be making mine with zucchini instead of noodles. still delish.

Surgery was no big deal. Not sure exactly how long the surgery took, because I was out of it, but I would say about an hour for the actual surgery. Most of the time is just for prep and recovery.

@ - Your hearing is going to make it more difficult to pick up important social cues. I suffer from a mild form of autism that really makes it hard to read other. Well it did until I really started to study it. And it really took me years to break all the subtle codes, but once I did, it opened many doors.
So how do you learn? Start with books (try "The Like Switch" by Jack Schafer). This will make you more aware of your signals and those of others.
Then I really started watching good movies. I didn't just watch them for the story, but good actors send very clear but subtle signals. The little gestures, how they touch their hair etc. and the response from the other actor will give you more clues. Then put away the cell phone and watch people in Starbucks, try to guess what the relationship is between people.
As you do this, your confidence will grow over time. I'll tell you a little secret, I developed a social phobia for no good reason in my late 30's. I used to be able to give speeches to thousands, and for some dang reason I was breaking into a sweat leading a prayer at church. So I got out of my comfort zone and joined Toastmasters. It worked. After a few months of supportive practice I was back in my old form. I now teach part time as part of my job. I know that might be a real stretch for you, but it is the cheapest therapy you might be able to find. The people are great and most of the presentations are interesting.
This may seem like very strange dating advise, but as Einstein said, "solutions very rarely show up at the level that the problem presents itself."

For my birthday I thought I'd have a hard cider, since I am cleared for anything. I got about 1/4 of the bottle down before I fell asleep. I think my hard drinking days are over. LOL.
