My surgery is scheduled for 16th May. I could have opted for 1st April but I needed additional time to get together the gap fees. I don't know how it works in the US but here in Australia there's a gap between what the Health Cover pays and the total fees. I'm very nervous about it all on account of my age, I am 67. I'm 5' 4" and weigh 110 kgs, about 240 lbs. My surgeon wants me to get to 65 to 70 kgs which just seems to be a joke at the moment. I can't remember the last time I was 70 kgs. I have type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure, my greatest hope is that my diabetes goes into remission.

Thank you!!! And no kidding. That's the plan! My wife says she can't even begin to say it without laughing hahaha. In my life the only people who would ask are the same people who would yell "tidal wave" when I jumped in the pool last year... So SCREW THEM! They don't deserve the truth!!! I only told my mom, wife, and best friend. Boom!

    Cathy48,
Yes, yes the dreadful sweats will soon leave and be replaced with new found energy! I'm doing things now that I haven't done in years. My husband bought me a bicycle, today and we're going to start riding together. I'm 64y/o and haven't been on a bike in over 40yrs so this should be a real adventure. Next week, I'm starting at a gym with a personal trainer...I hope my new found energy doesn't exceed my physical ability. I was on 3 blood pressure meds and the side effects were ruining my life. Now, two of those meds have been eliminated and that has a lot to do with my since of a "new lease on life". Yes, you will be able to glide into spaces you never thought possible.

I was sleeved on 9/21/15 at the age of 60. For the first time in my life I have hope that I will be able to keep my weight under control. This has been one of the best decision I've made. I'm from Michigan.

    Cathy48,
I had sleeve surgery 12/30/15..... right before my 64th birthday. I have sleep apnea and chronic high blood pressure due to my weight. The sleeve was the smartest decision I've ever made and should have done it a lot sooner. I wasted many years being so overweight and damaging my health. Good luck with your surgery......I'm sure you will have no regrets. I honestly do feel like a have a "new lease on life"!!

April will be upon us in just a few hours and I know there are several people who are having their surgery tomorrow. Good luck with the first day of the rest of your lives, wishing you health and happiness.

You've been through so much already, but this procedure should put you on the road to improved health and fitness. I'll be thinking of you on the 18th of May.

I've been lurking around and very, very occasionally posting so why did I miss the over sixties group! Everyone seems to be so young here, I couldn't believe I was alone, well here you all are and it's lovely to meet you. I'm 67, that's my calendar age but really it's rubbish. I feel more like 50 or so. After some gentle encouragement from my GP, I have type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure, I went to see the surgeon about 16 months ago with the intention of having a band. However I had to increase my health care cover and wait for 12 months before I could go ahead. To cut a very long story short, I'm scheduled for 16th May but decided to have the sleeve instead after reading some negative feedback about the band. I'm scared but excited at the same time. I want a new, healthier me going forward.

It is indeed. Providing you take simple precautions like only drinking bottled Water all should be okay.

    Greetings fellow Aussie,
At 10 weeks I went on a wek long holiday to St Lucia (I am in London now). You will be able to eat normal foods but seriously tiny amounts. I tried a few bits of lean chicken, and made friends with the hotel staff who got me a hard boiled egg every day (it was my go to lunch). You will be fine with small amounts of fish. You should avoid booze (hard in Bali I know( and be hitting as close to 3 litres of Water a day due to the heat.
    Ahhhh heat. I miss heat.

At 8 weeks, I was forgetting I had had surgery. Most of the time (I hit 3 months on Tuesday), I feel like I'm 92% healed. I walk all day as a teacher, and from time to time my tummy let's me know if I have overdone things. Feeling like I feel today, 12 weeks out, I would pounce on taking a trip like this!

By ten weeks I was was cleared for most foods. My incisions had healed over and I was cleared to swim at about four weeks.
I don't know why you couldn't travel. I would just recommend that you run it by your surgeon.
Sounds like a fabulous trip to me! I hope you have a wonderful time.

Cathy48 got a reaction from SillyOleMe in New to here, questions, my journey!
I started my journey 14 months ago convinced that I wanted the band. In the meantime I had to wait 12 months for my Health Cover to kick in and used that time to research, research, research. I am now scheduled for the sleeve on May 16. What put me off ultimately was the regular appointments to ensure the band was just so. I'd heard of so many people having problems down the line that it became a no-brainer for me.
