Preparing for the pre-surgical liquid diet
ColoradoChick replied to ColoradoChick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Chilly - You are lucky! I wish I only had 3 days! I am trying to get ready for the transition. I am going to try my first protein shake tonight. I bought a container of Vanilla IsoPure which is carb free. I sure hope it tastes good! -
Thanks Kat! You are my hero! I cant wait to be able to ride again. I want my own horse again some day! My surgery is fast approaching! I am getting pretty nervous! I saw the surgeon yesterday and have the instructions to begin my one week low carb liquid diet next Friday.

Hi Gina, I went to your spreadsheet and tried to add my starting weight and it added me again. There are two lines now that say Colorado Chick. Anyway, sorry about that! I didnt see how to update my name since it was already added. Hopefully you can fix the error! ColoradoChick (MaryEllen)

I ride western mostly. I have done barrel racing, pole bending, trail riding, some western pleasure showing. I have also assisted at Roping events by driving the calves. All of this was while living in Colorado. When I moved to Virginia 18 months ago I left my horses behind. Most people around here do not ride western.

I am from Colorado Springs but live in Virginia. My sister and her family just moved from Longmont. It is a nice little town!

Hi LisaB! I am very nervous also! Dr. Pinnar seems like a great guy!

I have my pre-op appointment with my family doctor tomorrow. I have to have an EKG and some blood work. I had a barium swallow on Tuesday. That was yucky! I go and see the surgeon on the 17th and begin my low carb diet on March 28th. I am not sure if it is a liquid diet but I suspect it probably is. My surgery is scheduled for April 4. My insurance is paying for everything except the program fee that the surgeon charges. The program fee is $2550.00. My surgery is with Dr. R Pinnar in Reston Virginia
-
The program fee my doctor charges is over and above the surgery fee. My insurance pays for everything. I asked what the program fee was and it is a charge for the brochures, 3 months of fills, support group and their time in getting the insurance to approve the surgery. I think it is a racket but all three of the doctors charge 2550 to 3550 in a program fee. What can you do but pay it if that is the only way they will do the surgery? My doctor has to have the non-refundable program fee paid 10 days prior to the surgery date.

I like that! Very motivating!! You have got my vote!

That is a good one. April's flower is the Daisy or the Sweet Pea. The holidays are April Fools Day, Easter, Earth Day, Arbor Day, National Poetry Month....

That is great news Chica!! Congrats!!

I think that I do not want my co-workers to know that I am having this surgery. I feel like a few of them will judge and I really do not want to deal with their comments. I do not think it is something that I have to share but I need to come up with some story. I thought I would tell them that I have to have my gallbladder removed - I did have it removed some years ago before I worked at this present job. I mentioned to a coworker that I was having problems with my gallbladder area. I forgot that I had told her that it was removed already. She said I thought you had that removed already! Drat!! I am not a good liar. I covered that it was just my digestive area - I feel like such a !! Anyway I am not good at the lying but need to come up with a story. I think I may just pull her aside and tellher that it is a surgery of a personal nature and I dont want people to know about it. I am such an idiot!!! :tt2:

Good One!!

Thanks Chica717. I am going to order some of the syrups right now so I have them on hand. I bet they come in handy in the liquid stage. I am sure glad that I am not self pay. It is hard enough to come up with the 2500 program fee!

Good Luck! It doesnt sound that bad! You have to do this for one week or two? I was surprised to find out that I only had to do the liquid diet for one week pre op. Where did you get the Unjury powder?
-
I start the liquid diet one week pre-op on March 28th. I have no idea what they will have me drink. What types of things are you drinking?
-
Hi met Dr. Eric Pinnar at the seminar and rally liked him but since isnt a provider for BC/BS I had to go with his Dad. I bet you are excited about your surgery! I am feeling a little scared about it right now.

I just scheduled my surgery for April 4, 2008 with Dr. Robert Pinnar at Reston Hospital! Happy but NERVOUS!!!

:thumbup:My insurance company called today to let me know that I have been approved for lap band surgery! Yipee!! My insurance company is going to pay for the entire procedure except for a $50.00 co pay.I have to get a barium swallow, EKG and some blood work to do before scheduling. The biggest obstacle now is coming up wit $2550.00 for the doctors enrollment fee! I may have to put the surgery off for a few months so I can have time to save for this fee. That is a bummer!
