  1. Hey, Staying away from the obvious non liquid, for three weeks,no fiborous, acid producing etc, make just so much sense. I have yet to experienc any fullness. Just not hungry, making sure to get liquids in. Actually have bit had anything taste bad yet, just wish I did not see it all over again from "other end!" The rumbling in my belly is quite a party, I am seeing if I can hold on to it for a period of time, as not to be running. We have been told that we shall know when we eat or drink something wrong, well if this soon passes I shall at least be able to go on with consuming all the arrays of liquids I purchased beforehand and drank 4 days ahead of the surgery. I am also looking forward to not second guessing my choices. Thanks for the assistance, waiting for Dr's offices to open can seem lifetime. D.
  2. Teresa, I even liked the barium, for I finally got yo deink something! The nurse did tell me if I felt like I had gas, watch iut, for i had better run to the toilet. I just got curious that it went beyond 24 hours and still is here. A call in never hurts. I shall have to wait a couple of hours. sunrise today is a bright red sky...At least something nice to focus on, besides being so thankful for my new life beginning... Debra
  3. Thanks for the reply, I believe it is not a bug, for I feel just fine. I am being so good with all the structure and following all rules. We shall see what transpires this day. At least I slept like a baby, I needed that. I will get some pepto and see how I do. I will call the office to at leasst report my event. I had not planned on going anywwhere for a few days anyway, so if this is to be I shall conquer it also. I have to remember it is only 3 days since surgery. When I recognize that and all the liquid,or no liquid in the hosp. at all for 36 hours, then it has only been a little over 40 hours starting up again. I also wondered if chocolate was causing it rather than vsnilla. No rhymn or reason, so far. Looking forward to the sun cioming up in the next hour, dealing with these things in the light always seem much better. No holidy, stores open, possible Dr. office open, so I go on... Thanks for all ideas and support. My eyes are cloudy at typing, sorry about spelling.. Debra
  4. Did it stop as fast as it came on? I just woke up at 2:45. I messed up everything while sleeping!!! that is a first. No clue.... i neeed to know it will stop soon. thanks for your reply, Debra
  5. Thank you for your reply. I was told I would have this but I figured it would be short lived. the fact that I do not feel sick or in pain, only getting raw and do not know if i shall be up all night with it, also if I am on the same liquids for the next three weeks, I am wondering if this shall continue. i am to call the office tomorrow, they may not be in, but I shall at least get some idea if I should just live with it. It would be very hard to leave the house.... I was looking for other posts, I am sure it is not new, I appreciate your information. This could get old real quick and it would be nice to slow it down with something. Thanks, Debra
  6. Hello to all, Had surgery on tues morning and returned home last evening home. I started experiencing severe diarrhea this morning and it has gotten so bad I need to change something or take something. I was taking Gas X and stopped. I took Benydral for I had severe itching with pain meds, Only took once today. I have been on protein drinks, just liquids, and cannot stop the pouring. I decided to stop the soy protein drinks, just to see if anything helped. It may still be take a while to see any difference.i do not have any imodium, but thought i'd put this out there for any information you all might have or a suggestion. I am getting plenty of water, I got some gatoraid, and tried broth. I am not sick, nor that uncomfortable but just for the constant every 10 minutes of being on the toilet with rushing diarrhea. And I am getting very sore... If this is par for the course at this time, I shall endure, but I am wondering if I should take something to stop it or slowit down. I am able to get enough fluids back in withiut a problem. help would be appreciated. Debra
  7. Hello there, Well surgery went well on tues, had hernia repair, gallbladder removed and band placed. I was so glad to even drink the barium for the floroscopy! When I was preparing to be discharged I was given so many kinds of liquid to try, I was overwhelmed, and stressed. The staff was clearly stressed due to all the holiday and people were in high gear, letting so msny thiongs fall through the cracks. It did not help with the anexity. I did not tolorate the liquid pain med, and when I saw the green jello, I knew that things had changed. Rough time geting out of the hospital due to the holiday and traffic. I was so glad to get home. Slept finally last night and have been playing around with different kinds of liquids through out the day. getting plenty of protein, I was warned about when the bowels became productive it would be a "blast" I'll say. Now I cannot seem to stop it. Hoping this does not last too long. Any help would be appreciated. I am going off the Gas X. Heating pad for the tummy is great, logging all my intake of meds, liquid, any changes. Because of the hernia, which was very bad I was told, I guess I am better off not overdoing things. hard though. Pain meds hype me up. : nervous I still am congested so still using the voldyne. I am getting the idea of what no hunger feels like, how nice. I imagine things shall change in many ways, never a dull moment. So day three, I seem to have read once getting thriugh this day it gets quite a lot better. Any comments or suggestions etc are appreciated. I am headed to have some Trader Joes "some kind of broth" or veg soup. I hopr you all have had a nice thanksgiving day, those of us who have had surgery recently are of course being thankful not for the food but the opportunity to finally change our lives and live healthier! Thst is today's story. Debra
  8. Eileen, could you drink coffee????? I am copying all lists and pasting them to print out..Got to do something and this is great for all the tips... thanks
  9. Dear tztmama, I feel ready, but I am looking for things to do. Did some gardening, it is so beautiful today here. My husband went golfing and I am thrilled to have the day alone. I can just stay in my sweats and go from thing to thing as I chose. I may even read a bit. I keep having to remember I can not eat. I have all the liauids and wonder sometimes if I could be geting too much protein from them. I am drinking water. the waiting is no fun right now. But I shall endure..... Watching the clock tick tick tick...
  10. Okay I am now really here..a few adjustments and I feel maybe I cen get some work done. I am not sure where to start, but feel so much better with the posts this morning i will fly through the day and be back tonight when the waiting gets shorter. Thanks to all...
  11. Thanks Mandy, sent pic, do your stuff.....I am ready...... Le the show begin. then I shall prepare to go out in the sunshine and smell the flowers and go get some liquids....... Debra
  12. So true, I am there!!!!! No one understands till they step in our shoes. I actually had a gal ask me why I was having this done. I was so small. Once I let her know my history, not in defense, an 12 years of Dr. Supervised liquid diets, surgeries, she understood we were the samae, maybe she was larger, but we were the same. Our minds as women, and men can make us craqy with the weight thinking and being without energy and comfort, for heavens sake just to be able to not have chafing will be a joy...
  13. Mandy, how do I get my picture to come up. It is in my profile. Guess I am ready to share...
  14. Okay The Broth Will Be Made Today, Sounds Good Even Now, I Am On Liquids.........yum
  15. I love yogurt! Did not think I could have it considering milk and not liquid, guess kefir, or watered down yogurt! Going shopping for sugar free popcicles!!!!
  16. Mandy, You were banded on my birthday! Tha list is great and I am getting to all other wonderful supportive posts. My husvband said he would make the jello!!!!!
  17. Thank you Jini, Three days at this point seems so great for me to hear. I have been through 21 surgeries so far. so the surgery part is not a problem, it is the change in my life and the challanges. But...i am such a trouper once it all takes place. I miss my estrogen, off for another month, 52 and no uterus. No celebrex and i am achey...But with you and others who are close by I know my answers are going to be heard. My husband just poped in and said" I guess I will need to be of help the next week or so, huh,? Yikes, is he just not listening. So the list will come out. since it is a holiday this week, I want to make sure I have all I need. I believe I do, but tomorrow I shall call the Dr's office and if I need meds to come home with, it won't be until Wed evening that I am home, Thanksgiving everything is closed. My family is used to me being recovering from many major surgeries, and in a way they think, I believe it is just another surgery and I will be the same. Maybe I will, I shall plan on it, but I have been disabled for 6 years with 7 knee surgeries and revisions from my replacements. so much pain, meds, and wheelchairs etc. Last surgery was March 30th. A major revision. so here I am again, but this one is for "ME" not my knee, foot, thyroid, toe joint...... That is the difference, and it all will make the other necessary surgeries stay healing and without the weight so much better. Scared, mostly right before I go in the operating room. I am a retired surgical nurse.....I tell them all the drugs nd amounts it takes me to be comfortable. No shaking afterwards. They usually are great, I have had so much experience in the room for surgery and assisting in it! so there I am on a roll, guesss it is coming out, as it should. Thanks so much, I am keeping close by, even with things to do today to be prepared... Debra
  18. Stephanie, Boy do I relate to that! My husband has put up with so much, I cannot wait to feel okay naked in fromt of him and not be so stressed about becoming even more crippled with the weight and lack of energy. I have alway been beautiful, and have lost that feeling for a while now. I refuse to go down the trail of embarassement anymore. I hate the yo yo stuff with a passion. So looking forward to tues. I shall keep reading and posting as it keps me sane.....
  19. Dear Jini, So all I get so far is the sleeping problem and maybe gas. I am making sure I have gas X around, I know how that can be a problem with discomfort. I woke up at 5 this morning and was stressing. I guess I try to be so stoic, and not tell too many people, first of all what I am doing and yet ZI want support. that is why I come here. having people understand and be so close to knowing just what things feel like. I leaned over to my husband and said, I am sore andscared this morning. counting the hours left to go to the hosp. I need to call the Dr's office and make sure I can get any meds beforehand, for I come home and it is Thanksgiving the next day, nothing open. I am also hoping I can log on to any wireless in the hosp. I do need to check emails for business and want to be able to write in if I feel like it. I don't plan to use the laptop, but It is such a part of my life, I always bring the "spare" one for emergencies. Another day of liquids to get me ready for the big day tues. I am glad to be getting the experience without the discomfort. I can sleeep with my night meds, but waking up just gets the brain going. Thanks for the support. I am reading aboiut you all who have been banded for awhile, so inspiring, and every one just banded, listening to the smallest things, for they mean so much. We have so much in common, with this change of life. My thanksgiving is my new life!!!
  20. To have lesss weight on knees, one replaced, healthier life, energy, better self image, better quality of life!!! Not to have to constantly be stressing about the numbers and clothes that don't ever fit for long if at all.
  21. Hello, I'm in Santa Barbara and having band done on tues by the great Dr. Billy in Ventura. Everything so far has been so great. Attitude is everything and the whole office is wonderful. Price is half what it is in SB. Heard Dr. here has only done a "few". Scary. I am so ready and counting the hours down. I am paying out of pocket, did not want to wait, but have medically necessity due to Total Knee Replacements with 6 revisions etc. Also having gallbladder removed due to stones just found out. Soooo looking forward to tues, having a hard time in the waiting period... Pretty prepared with home liquids etc, but working on more so I can keep busy. With holiday I want to be comfortable with family being around. Wish me luck.....on my way........
  22. Thank you for the reply. I am sure I can get liquid pain med, I cannot know with all the changes of going off current types of medications just what is what from where in the way of discomfort. I have faith I shall know better as time goes on. I forget about broths, I was told by my Dr. that I will not have anything what so ever until I leave the hosp. not even ice chips.(bringing lip balm!!) So the first liquid will be at home.clear liquids for about two weeks (suggestions? on them) then mushy. I am gathering great books on WLS food preparing. The nurse will meet with me in the hosp. who works in the office with him. She I am sure will be informing me. If I have to prepare ahead, or send out my husband( heaven forbid) I think the freezing is a good idea. Do I stay way from any possible gassy veg. when it comes to broths? Chicken with what in it for more flavor, or will I be fine with just chicken broth? I am a fighter when it comes to comsuming what I must. I hear food tasts different afterwards, this sounds interesting.
  23. t a Hello, I am new but am reading like mad everything I can get my hands on to have things in the house for coming home after banding. Going in on tues morn and expected to return wed night. Here is what I have gotten already: lots of the high Protein drinks in cans, by the list from Doc. Chewable Vitamins 3 in 1 joint formula, since I had to go off Celebrex,( this will be hard) for life! TKR with 7 surgeries, revisions etc... Calcium chews Isopure (any kind of tea?) told no coffee, can you have caffeine? Fiber tablets B-12 for inj. (former nurse) lots of whey powder had to go off estrogen patch 1 week ago and will go back on 1 month after band(scared!!!) Now, should I have anything for gas??? Am I being too obsessive? I want to be prepared, for being thanksgiving, of course no real event, but I want to be comfortable if kids come by to give hugs and kisses....Only three out of 4 will be in town. I ache now from no celebrex, but want to stay on track with the rules. No meds... My husband is great, but I have to teach him everything and it takes a lot of explaining for him to get it. He has gone to most all informational sessions, but does not really get the intake, or what to expect. So maybe my question should also be what can I do to prepare him to help me??? I have a busy home business so I am trying to prepare for a couple pf days off, xmas is busy with website orders. I have had 21 surgeries, mostly major, so everyone including myself, is used to me being in a recovery mode. This one though is quite different, even with all info so far I am just wondering if I am missing anything that I can do to ease my anxiety. Any and all help appreciated. P.S. Found out having gallbladder out due to stones and possible repair of hiatel hernia.
  24. Dear Jini, I am following your progress, being banded on tues. Did you start on liquids before your surgery? This is day two and I feel I have a lot of time on my hands. Reading posts and getting excited and wanting the time to go faster now. Great to hear that you are doing so well, a good attitude is worth so much. Keep up the good work nd I shall be there soon. Debra
  25. To all those banded and Nov to be banded. I am so inspired to read all the posts, even after so long, still being and getting support. I go in the 22 and have been stocking up on the isopure drinks, powders, chewable vitamins, calcium, fiber, and any protein drinks on the list. I had such an informative session with the nurse at the office of Dr. Billy in Ventura CA. I am in Santa Barbara, but at this time feel lucky to have someone with so many band under his belt! Went for the GI swallow and found hiatel hernia, also gallstones with the ultrasound. Guess that's coming out! I am a self pay, due to the COE that blue cross is so strict about. The psychological visit was good for the Dr. stated he would put in the letter that I needed to be able to do post ops close by home rather than go all the way to San Francisco. At this point, though I am just so glad to be on the way. No estrogen patch for the week ahead and 1 month after. Yikes!!!!! This ought to be interesting, any thoughts or suggestions? I have had a hysterectomy, and am in later menopause. I have a question. who out there has help on that fact that I want to eat everytihing in site, due to the fact that I won't be eating some things again maybe forever? I am rather a health nut, so it isn't really sweets, just pasta, bread, anything that I know will not be on my food list. I am ready to go by all rules" obbessive with rules, so that is good and just liquids three days before surgery. I am so ready for all afterwards, I don't care the taste, after 12 years on Dr. supervised liquid protein programs. I have gone through 4 thanksgiving and christmas etc seasons without eating solid food. But.....This week is so strange. The mind and it's dangers. I got up this morning and had an isopure for the first time. Not bad, heard my tastes may change after the band. I am hoping if I can get more if them in I won't be hungry to want to treat myself with foods that will be off limits afterwards. So there is the story, I am trying to fill the time with reasearch and support, after finding out I am going to be a grandmother this past week, I have things to occupy my thoughts too. Thank you all for your gift of gab with so much information!!! D.
