Sorry to hear about your experience. I think one of the most frustrating things about weight loss surgery is needing to find Protein supplements that taste okay! It’s so frustrating because what works for someone else may not work for you; what you like before surgery might taste terrible post-op; and as you search for a powder that works, it’s hard to forget about all that money you’re throwing away!
Some of the members have given suggestions about mixing it with other drinks like G2 (or Powerade Zero or any sugar-free drink). To avoid wasting money, you can try buying your shakes and other supplements online at a store with a good refund or exchange policy. Some stores let you return or exchange products if you’ve only tried a single serving.
WLSResources/Clothing Exch: the sleeve is a completely different surgery than the band. Protein Shakes or powder are unavoidable since patients can’t eat food until at least 2 weeks post-op. After that, they can only eat a little at a time, and most need shakes for weeks or months after to meet their needs.

I just turned 31 and I wish I had done this 5 years ago. But I don't think I was mentally ready if that makes sense. It's a personal choice. If your doctor is comfortable then don't let outside opinions get in your head.

As a member of the "Y-Chromosome" club, I apologize for those of us that still drag our knuckles.
That was a very degrading thing for those men to do.
I for one believe that women should be placed high upon a pedestal -high enough so you can see under their skirts.

Pre-op diet sucks for sure. But you have to put on your big girl/boy panties and suck it up. It's only temporary and making a commitment to yourself now only makes it more likely you will be able to stay on track post-op.

It sucks during pre-op diet.....but this is simply a TEMPORARY situation.
Gut check time. Don't cheat yourself. Stay strict. There is a safety reason for this diet. YOUR safety. Don't cheat yourself.
Yes....you will be on the liquids for a short period after the surgery as your new stomach heals. You will then transition to other foods and soon be able to eat whatever you wish.
It's up to you to chose wisely and select foods that will support your weight loss goals.
I skipped the pureed stage because I felt it was a pitfall. There simply wasn't anything I wanted to eat in that state.....I stuck with the shakes an additional time period and then transitioned to soft fish, grilled chicken and etc.
Enjoy the weight loss you'll see if stick with the pre-op correctly.
Space out your allowed shakes so there aren't periods of hunger. Stay highly hydrated. Stay active. Stay outa the kitchen......let others fend for themselves. Stay focused on the countdown and being strict. If you absolutely have to cheat then do so with an additional shake only....don't open the door to temptation with other junk.
It gets much, much easier after the surgery. I assure you.

Hello everyone! A little over two years ago a friend and I struggled to work out everyday. We pushed through and did it though. We were very diligent on what we ate and how much. However with fail we never lost the weight. We both struggled with weight all of our lives. One day I causally mentioned WLS to her. I told her it was something I was going to look into. Well soon after that I had some medical issues and I felt I could get the weight off myself so I didn't follow through with meeting with a surgeon. My friend did though and started her journey to a happier healthier life. Insurance approved her with a bmi over 40. She had comorbidities but didn't list them(I think). Well today she looks absolutely amazing. I am so proud of her. So with that said here I am. I have had chronic problems with gastric ulcers, gerd and joint problems. I met with my surgeon this past November. I did everything. sleep study, psych, bloodwork, cardiologist, NUT. EVERYTHING! whew. Well my paperwork was turned into Tricare and they denied it. They said I didn't have any of the listed comorbidities. My bmi is 38.7. I have PCOS, endometriosis, arthritis, gastric ulcers, gerd and severe back pain. I have been seeing a orthopedic for years now for my back pain. So my coordinator filed a appeal but I told her regardless I was going to pay for it. My surgery is scheduled for February 25th!! I can't wait. I am hoping Tricare changes their minds but if not so help me I will have this done. I am ready to change my life for the best!

Lol I said the same thing!!! It's true they are going to repair my hiatal hernia but do a lil extra work ????. I feel its no ones business but my own. I told close family and a couple of friends. I'm not required to do a supervised diet but I'm starting one now. Mostly cause I'm freaking out about hair loss. My surgery will be in April or May so I'll just let them assume weight loss is from my current diet.

In high school I was very active. I was on the school's dance team and worked out constantly. Then I went to college and met my future ex-husband. I've always been a people pleaser and put everyone ahead of me. My relationship with my ex was toxic from the beginning. I lost many friends because they couldn't support the relationship. I put him first for 11 years. He was very controlling. I didn't realize it, but I was losing my identity trying to make sure he was happy. I had to constantly ask him for permission to do anything.
I lost motivation. And most importantly, I lost what made me "me".
My divorce was finalized last spring and I feel like my life has started. Before I hid in my house to afraid to leave and relied on food to comfort me. Now I want more than anything to be out of my house. Be active. Im so excited for this next chapter.

1 cup Almond milk, 1 scoop chocolate Protein powder, tablespoon of Protein rich Peanut Butter, half a frozen banana, and some ice cubes. Tastes like a Reese's Cup and 30+ grams of protein depending on type of powder and Peanut Butter.< /p>
1 cup almond milk, half a cup greek yogurt, mandarin orange, vanilla Protein Powder, table spoon sugar free whip cream and ice. Tastes like a creamsicle and again 30+ grams of protein possible.
These shakes have more calories than the recommended but will get you going and over the "yuck" feeling. Just eat light between and it will balance out. Of course someone will say talk to the nutritionist and that's fine just an option.
