I'm so excited for you! I've just started all of the testing. I have 2-3 months before submitting to insurance. It seems like a long time, but I think it will pass quickly. Thanks for sharing. I love reading all of the post! Congratulations!

Just wanna say hi fellow Virginians! There aren't any Bariatric surgeons close by here in southwest VA so my surgery is in TN.

I'm scheduled for June 30 but because of a possible ins change I might be sleeved in May! This is day 2 of the 2 week liquid diet for me...that may not even be used. It's hard with no sure surgical outcome knowing that I might have to do it again next month.

My BMI is 54 and I am getting the sleeve. It's the only option for me since I have inflammatory bowel disease. My surgeon said in his practice the sleeve has been just as effective as the bypass, it just may take a little longer to lose the weight with the sleeve.

June 10th. Revision to sleeve!!! I have had chronic pain in my left side for 2 years. Finally discovered that my band tubing is wrapped around my spleen. So happy to be pain free.

Are you for real? You're preaching to everyone the danger of diet soda and you smoke?
    Your argument is invalid.
I'd keep my weight off for 4 years too if I could smoke a cancer stick everytime I felt like eating instead.

Perhaps next time you should read the original post before you decide to get snarky. She wasn't asking for advice. She was specifically asking to hear from those whose surgeons had approved of diet soda. She asked what we were told in regards to the stomach stretching myth and guidelines for use, as well as when we first tried it ( @@Beck90 - 3 months btw, since I forgot to say so in my orignal post).
She also specifically asked NOT to hear from those who disagreed - not because she didn't care, but because she'd already heard that side of the argument and was just looking to educate herself on the other side.

The differences between the sleeve and the RnY (gastric bypass) pouch are numerous.
Sometimes people use the two terms interchangeably. But as I understand it, a sleeve and a pouch are pretty different, e.g.:
    * They're made of different parts of the stomach (the sleeve is made of the non-stretchy part of the stomach, and the pouch is made of the upper part of the stomach (both non-stretchy and stretchy parts).
    * The RnY pouch doesn't have a valve at the bottom of the pouch that retards movement of food into the intestine. However, the sleeve retains the duodenal valve, which retards to some extent (depending on the type of food eaten) the speed with which food passes from the stomach into the small intestine.
    * In gastric bypass surgery, the stomach isn't removed -- so the fundus (stretchy portion of the stomach) is left inside the body, able to produce ghrelin (the hunger hormone). In sleeve surgery, the fundus is removed, leaving the body with a greatly reduced amount of ghrelin and leaving the patient with a greatly reduced appetite.
