I'm 23 and i too have heard the "oh honey your too young for that. " it is quite irritating . i haven't even told most of my friends and family even my dad doesn't know. just because i don't want to hear them tell me what is right for my life . my dad told me that if i do that if i have weight loss surgery I'm ruining my life. thought this was odd for him to say considering he had lap band about 3 or 4 years ago. oh and he has had success with lap band . he thinks that anything other than the lap band is going to ruin my life because it is non reversible. hence the reason i neglected to tell him of MY decision he will not be told by me. sorry apparently i needed to vent /rant lol. ( i am married and i have a little boy. )

You will have thousands of friends and a support group at your fingertips. I tried a couple FB groups me but nothing, and I mean nothing, will compare to the support you receive here. Every stage brings different fears, anxiety and questions. If you don't like an answer, move on. There will be so many people to reach out to you, and learn to rely on the veterans here to guide you every step of the way. Best of luck, it's awesome here.

I would love to have some advice from some one who has already had surgery. Someone who I could talk to on a daily basis maybe? Not many people in my family know that I'm having surgery so it be fantastic to have someone to talk to about to it often . It may seem weird but I just hate keeping this to myself.

I've been on a 6 month supervised diet I'm on the 3rd month now and have lost 20 lbs and was told insurance would deny me for losing a lot of weight before the surgery. Is this true?

TiffanyLM reacted to Bluesky1 in Fat Shaming Husband...so hurt
So angry and sad. I'm recovering from a total hysterctomy and preparing to have sleeve surgery in 4 weeks, on Feb. 23rd.
My husband (new I might add, just married over a year) has been brutal towards me because of my weight gain overthe last year and half. I gained 70 lbs (again, after losing 50). This was the last time I was going to go through this. I had to gain 10 lbs to have the surgery, and I did. It was great! For the first time, I ate what I Wanted...with no guilt. I have continued to eat some healthy things and some not healthy things. And he has insulted, put me down, told me he doesn't want a fat wife...and on and on.
Today I woke up sick, with a headache, but feeling good about my body. I have lost 10 lbs after this last surgery. I thought, hey! I'm looking better. I then walked in his office to him looking disgusted, telling me I had a headache because I ate some starbursts...and essentially telling me he wasn't going to buy me any junk food. I need to be on "His plan". And he is angry at me for gainig weight, and not being an obedient wife. I was hurt, sad, enraged, and just sick of it.
I have battled my body for over 25 years, and I know this descion to have the sleeve is right, no matter what he says. It just hurts to know that the man I married, has let me know...he doesn't love me for me. He obviously married me for what I looked like. I told him tonight that I hate him, and wished I never married him. He is a preacher, and so good to other people. But, horrible to me. It sickenss me.
With bad health, and am not supporting myself. I can't leave. I feel trapped with no support or family near me.
Just wanted to vent. Also, I'm a Christian and a praying person. Please pray for healing from this surgery, and healing and help through the sleeve Surgery. Thanks

This is the absolute best thing I have ever done for my health . I had surgery June 23rd at 264 pounds and I now weigh 196 pounds. I have went from 2x shirts to Large , from 40-42 pants to 34's . Surgery went easy - only complication I had was I developed an incisional hernia and had it fixed January 7th. I feel normal I just cannot eat very much . I had failed with my lap band no way I will ever weigh that again.

You are welcome. Bridging, as it's called, for surgery and other procedures, is very common and not a big deal. I even had to come off of the Coumadin to do my EGD, in case of biopsy. So no big at all.
The leak test for most is done 1) during surgery and/or 2) the morning after surgery. My surgeon did both to be extra careful. So around 9 am the morning after they took me down.
My only word of caution is afterwards, I still did not want anything to eat, of course. However, I took my Coumadin when they brought it. It was the first thing to hit the new tummy. The new tummy did not like this. I had to grab a trash can! lol. I kept it down, but oops! Just be careful of that.

I think we all had the same fears before hand. The 3 days before diet (Clear liquids only) and the 10 days after surgery are not a lot of fun. But basically I am talking about 2 weeks in a lifetime. 8 months later I lost 125 lbs without really being hungry. My blood pressure is back to normal without medication (110/58 with resting pulse of 56). I have lost 12 inches off my waist, I fit comfortable in airplane seats, and can stand on my feet all day!
Most of us go through the "what did I do to myself" phase for a day or two. You will probably hit the "3 week" stall and then stall again as your body adjusts to the new normal on caloric intake. You will probably begin to want to exercise, as you won't have excessive eating as a stress reliever anymore.
This operation won't fix your life or "make" you happy. But if you follow the program (you can read A LOT about folks NOT following the program on this forum) you will have a significant tool to lose significant weight. Complications, while possible, are extremely rare with this surgery. Make sure you pick a "bariatric center of excellence" for you surgery. I went to 3 different surgeons and I picked the guy who told me that he has never had a patient who had a leak.
    Best of luck to you.

I was sleeved on 11/5/2015 and was pretty scared too. There was some discomfort for the first few days, but nothing really painful. My biggest piece of advice is to make sure you get your Water in the first few days after leaving hospital so you don't get dehydrated (I learned that the hard way). Down 42 lbs to date -- def no regrets!

I am getting a bypass and also have a clotting disorder. Mine is such that I bleed too easily. I've worked with the hematologist and they are giving me a DDAVP infusion prior to surgery and will keep me in ICU to monitor my bleeding. I'd encourage you to talk with a hematologist. Always better safe than sorry. Good luck!

I take Coumadin daily. I had vsg 10/26. They took me off Coumadin 5 days prior and I started injections daily. After surgery, they started me back on Coumadin as soon as I passed the leak test, while keeping me on injections. I stayed on both until I reached therapeutic levels post op. This is common anytime there's any type of procedure. They are very use to this and it's no problem. As an FYI, I'm on Coumadin due to spontaneous clots 4 years ago when both of my lungs were over 50% filled with clots, so it was a pretty serious intro to clotting! But as I said, surgeons are generally well use to dealing with this!

Reported to hospital at 530am for 730am surgery got weighted in and lost 32lbs on my pre op diet. I was way stoked to say the least. Surgery went well and I woke up with nausea and very loopy. I got to my room at noon and I instantly was up walking Laps to get this gassy feeling out. I've been doing a dozen Laps an hour and feeling really good minus a little discomfort. Pain level is around a 3-4 out of 10. Gonna go watch tv and return texts excited for tomorrow and trying Clear liquids.
    Cheers everyone!
