  1. I was 54 at surgery. My high was 276. Pre surgery I got down to 259. Surgery was December 2015 and I am currently about 216. Yes it is coming off much slower now. Truth be told my goal was 190. If I don't lose other pound, I am ok with that. I look and feel SO much better!
  2. Hi all! It's been about 7 months since surgery and I'd like to know how everyone else is doing?? I'm down about 60 lbs total and feeling like a new person. Finally started buying some new clothes. The old ones were making me feel like a little girl playing dress up with her mom's clothing. How about some updates? Please and thank you!

    Acidic stomach

Thank you for taking the time to respond! I switched the omeprazole to evening a few days back. It helped but still awoke trying to choke on acid. Today I added ranitidine in the morning to morning omeprazole and will take both again tonight before bedtime. I'm desperate for a full night's sleep. No acid would be a bonus. The dr office is giving me a few days to see how this goes. Next on the schedule is an upper GI if this goes t work. Have a great evening!
  4. I had sleeve surgery this past December and all in all its been a pretty smooth process. The one issue that started a couple weeks ago was acid reflux. I'm great during the day but find I am waking up in the middle of the night with the most awful burning in the back of my throat. I still take my daily omeprazole. I have now stopped eating 2-3 hours before bedtime to see if that will help. Spoke with medical office today and she said to try taking omeprazole before bed instead of in the morning so I will start that tonight. Anyone else?
  5. The only people I told were my husband, sister and my children. I don't believe it's anyone else's business. If someone comments or asks how I've lost so much, I simply tell the, the truth in that I watch everything that goes in my mouth, I cut way back on portions and I move a lot more than before. All true, just not all the truth. Don't let anyone tell you this is the easy way out. There's still a lifelong commitment to be made and nurtured! Best of luck to you!
  6. I was sleeved on 12/16. Heaviest weight 276, day of surgery 257 and as if this morning 239. I kind of like that it's coming off. Little slower because it's still way faster than it ever was before! My clothes are in need of belts which is awesome!! Only 2 people have noticed my almost 40 lb loss so far but that's ok as I'm not losing for them.

    Shape wear

I like Spanx but they are a bit costly. I don't wear them daily as I want to have them for when I really want to look good! lol
  8. I agree with most of the above post. I used the pain meds after the sleeve for maybe 24 hours. I remember after both C-sections I had the meds for a couple more days. So much easier to get out of bed and walk after the sleeve also.
  9. I started with walking also. I increased my daily Fitbit goals as I was feeling better. I also started riding my recumbent bike. I found that easy to do and watch tv when I was too tired to keep walking some nights. I was just given the ok to start in the water at my 4 week PO visit. Once all my scabs fell off, I got the ok and am looking for a class to join and hope to add lap swimming in the near future.

    What am I doing wrong?

I am just shy of my one month mark and have been stalled almost 3 weeks. I lost 19 before surgery and so far only 11 since. I put this same question out there a couple weeks ago. What just about everyone said is that my body has to catch up to the 30 lbs lost. I get that truly but am getting frustrated. I all but double my Fitbit daily step count and ride my recumbent bike about 30 min a day at a fairly quick pace. I'd like to go faster but know I've got a lot of healing go do yet so Im practicing safely. I go for second post op check Weds so I will ask about that and also abou why I am so doggone cold all the time! Best of luck to you and the rest of us who keep trying.

    Aetna ***

My insurance carrier is Aetna. Luckily the surgeons office that I went through is very savvy about putting together the packet that Aetna demands. At my first visit, I was given a binder that includes in part, all the tests and protocol that would have to be followed before the office would submit it for approval. I took my time between the first appointment and making all the other appointments to make sure all the results were turned over to the doctor's office. (First appt was in May for consult, NUT started in May, all other misc appointments were then made, and surgery was December so I could do it while on Christmas break from school.) As for out of pocket expenses, that varies depending on your health plan and deductibles and co-pays.

    Fitbit pals

I have used Fitbit for several months now and I like the motivation. My daily goal isn't that high - only 5000 steps - but I'm always looking to add new motivators!! I will send invitations and best of luck to us all!
  13. I had the sleeve surgery on 12/16. The first few days home were a little tough getting all the Protein and Water down but I did it. As I'm approaching my two week post-op date, I am having no issues getting all my protein and water in. There are times that I actually feel "empty" or hungry if I had to label it. I am wearing my Fitbit and tracking my daily steps. My daily total is almost to where I was pre-op consistently. (Prior to surgery during the 8 month process, I had managed to lose a total of 19 lbs. Since the surgery, I have lost an additional 9lbs.) The first week after surgery I was averaging a 1lb loss daily. However, starting about 1 week and a day after surgery, I actually gained 1.2 lbs. The only foods that have been added so far are things like creamed Soups and cottage cheese. What's up with that? Did this happen to anyone else this early in the process? My first follow up is this Weds (12/30) and yes I will talk with my team but I have to wonder how typical I am. Anyway, hope you all have a wonderful New Year and thanks for your consideration in answering!!

    How to tell family/friends?

HI! I'm new to this forum and a recent patient. Tomorrow marks my 1 week day! I'm pretty much on board with most here. The only people I told pre surgery was my husband and our 4 children. I feel that it is no ones business but mine. I work in a school with a lot of very nice people who unfortunately like to talk. That's not how I am. I am very private and don't like talking about others. What I learned in my presurgery meetings was that a lot of people feel the same way. What they suggested was to tell anyone who asks was that you have made lifestyle changes. Think about it. We did. We are changing the way we eat, the way we exercise and the way we carry ourselves. I think that if somebody asks me point blank whether or not I've had surgery, I would have to admit it. I can't lie... But I don't believe I will be volunteering that info any time soon. What I have said to my coworkers is that I had a "procedure" done, which I did. Whatever you decide, you have to be comfortable with the decision. Best of luck!
