IrishGermanRN reacted to James Marusek in Old Timers-What is the point of WLS if many regain/have hunger/diet drama..
I think that many people have tried to lose weight by taking supplements, exercise, and diet restrictions. They may lose weight for a while but then most gain the weight back and then some. It just doesn't seem to work.
I am 3 years post-op RNY gastric bypass surgery. Before surgery, hunger was continuously gnawing at my bones. While I was eating a meal, I was already planning my next meal. After surgery, I completely lost my hunger. It was not difficult to lose weight when hunger is not constantly continuously gnawing at my bones. About a year after surgery, my hunger began to return but it was not very strong. Even 3 years now, the intensity of hunger is mild. Because my stomach is smaller, if I try and eat more than a cup and a half of food at a meal, I literally get sick and vomit for a couple hours. So I am very attuned to my stomach and when it feels full I immediately stop.

Find out why and if the appeal doesn't happen, I would look at cash pay. I went to OCC in Mexico and had a great experience.

I weigh everyday and I am 9 months post op. I didn't lose weight in December and January. But I also stopped logging my food and only weighed in sporadically. As of February 1st, I made rhetoric decision to use my tool how should be used and also weigh in daily. The scale helps me be accountable for my food choices.

Belgium Guy, twinkles are gross, so you'r not missing anything, my nutritionist also said I could eat whole grain bread and Pasta, I just need to keep under 140 grams in carbs a day. I've lost 100 pounds and kept it off successfully for a year. Ignore the rudeness.

I don't even know what Twinkies are and I have never had milkshake in my whole life. I just said my surgeon and my dietitian never told me anything wrong about brown pastas/rice and whole grain bread, I sure hope they know what they are doing since they studied around 9years to be there.
My mother also had a sleeve and still eat these things while maintaining 22 BMI, which is far from being bad.
And yes indeed I am a "newbie", I didn't come here for people to laugh at me or being condenscending. Have a nice day.

I am three two months and a half out, I have lost 50 pounds and was never warned against rice, bread or Pasta... Well I was told to reduce it and eat brown rice and Pasta, and whole grain bread (I hate white bread anyway).
Twice a month I have pasta with salmon, or some rice with vegetables, even sushis (not a lot though). I have the occasional grilled slice of whole grain bread with hummus or cheese (French, Dutch and Belgian cheeses are quite good).
It's weird all the differences I see between my country and the USA. I was never asked to drink Protein shakes, or to stop coffee and tea, and still my weight loss is rather good, around 3 to 4 pounds a week for a month and a half, and I have not yet experienced a stall.

You CAN have whatever you want. The better question is SHOULD you have it. I personally did not have anything like that (high carb, no nutritive value) until I was well below goal.

Same here. I lost about 30 pounds total with a lot of difficulty. My band then did slip. had an unfil and never the same since. Looking forward to the removal and getting the sleeve in 3 weeks.

Due to your age, are you able to get a revision? Wondering as my mother is 72 and has a failed lapband and is looking into getting it removed. Shes concerned a surgeon wont want to do it due to her age.

I am always somewhat amused by the irony of someone chastising and berating someone else because they feel the person chastised and berated someone else. pot, meet kettle..................
I am sorry this happened to the OP. I hope it turns out to be a blessing anyway, even if it is not the way you wanted things to go.

sounds like acute renal failure after the stent placement. Can happen. Your kidneys way of saying wtf is this stent and why is it here.... and shut down for a bit. Glad the diuretics are kicking them in.

I have to shake my head a bit at this whole "shaming" trend. I guess I'm just an old old lady because I would never allow a stranger on the internet to have ANY power over my feelings.
I certainly don't feel "shamed" because someone doesn't like the way I walk/talk/chew/sneeze/wear my hair. I don't care if they insult my body type/my exercise routine (or lack thereof)/my diet choices.
I am a big girl and I make my own choices. I don't need anyone's approval or opinion regarding those choices unless I ask and I certainly will NOT feel "shamed" if someone doesn't care for my choice.

I really fail to see how those comments you are picking at are classic blame and shame. Self reflection is shaming now? So people are supposed ignore the causes and just focus on what to correct the issue?
If people are that sensitive they shouldn't post on an anonymous internet forum asking for help. Once you publicly voice something, everyone is not going to agree with you or pat you on the head.
Too many people come here and try to convince other people that basic science doesn't work, without being honest with themselves.

At 5 weeks, it's common not to be sure if you are full. You should be measuring your food and eating on a schedule, not relying on "full" signals just yet.

Definitely sounds like you slime less or near not at all with the sleeve. With the band it can be a daily thing. very frustrating. looking forward to having it removed

I am going in for a revision, lap band to sleeve. I could not take the PB or slime a few times a week. My band is considered a failure. Do you with the sleeve still have any slime or PB? I hated having to pull over the side of the road or leave from a restaurant because food would get stuck and I would have to vomit. frustrating.
Curious if this still occurs with the sleeve.
    Thanks

I have never slimed. In 4 years I vomited a couple of times. ..all for the same reason...wolfing food. Hasn't happened in ages.

I just passed the 200 pound loss mark. I weigh over 200 pounds less than my highest weight. I still have a ways to go but have done better than I could have hoped.
I was sleeved April 20, 2015 and still going strong.
