sharonsjourney got a reaction from SarahSleeve in How long was your pre-op process?
I had my first appointment with surgeon on 1/7/16 and had surgery on 3/7/16. So in two months I completed a battery of tests, X-rays, evals, etc. but I was extremely driven to get things done quickly. Also I was lucky insurance did not require a lengthly supervised diet. One month post op and lost 24 lbs since surgery, so thrilled!

Thanks for the post and motivation! I'm on day 5 and lost control; I'm back on track for last 7 days before surgery. [emoji56]

Unfortunately I had the same issue! I had to have a sleep study. Usually sleep apnea is the key.

sharonsjourney reacted to CINNAMON 2015 in Unflavored Protein Powder
Hi Maria, The brand I use is called Protein Milk shake Bar. I really like the flavors of vanilla Caramel & Rocky Road. It has 22g of Protein, 2.7g of sugar, 4.1g carbs. One cup of milk, one scoop of powder, the bonus is one day I ran out of milk and it says you can mix with Water, so I mixed it with Water & I thought oh man this is gonna suck, but to my delighted surprise it was good. That's how I drink it now. There is no aftertaste with this protein powder. They have many other flavors but these are my favorites. I bought them off of Amazon. I also bought some drinks, Isopure, the blue raspberry is the best, and in a 20oz. bottle there is 40g of protein and zero carbs. I hope this helps you!!

sharonsjourney reacted to Airstream88 in Day 7 - Hating Protein Shakes & Worried about Future Food..
BariatricFoodie.com has lots of recipes, for all phases I think. There are all sorts of tricks to make Protein shakes taste better and also reviews of new Protein powders. I am still working through the pre-surgery requirements but I ordered some Protein Drink mixes from AmBari on the basis of a bariatricfoodie.com review. They are definitely better than tolerable - no chalky or grainy texture. If you only add 4 ounces of Water it makes a pudding like consistency, 8 ounces - milk like consistency (not thick at all).

sharonsjourney reacted to ttdish in Paying out of pocket
I was self pay, and flew to Florida for a great US self pay price ($10,000). I had to have some testing done, but pretty much could have scheduled any time after my tests were done.
It was about two months from my first contact with the surgeon's office, and my surgery date. It could have been much quicker, but it took a couple of weeks to get in with my PCP to get my tests done, and I had conflicts that pushed it back about two weeks.

HI, I just had my sleep study even though I didn't feel as though I have sleep apnea. I haven't got he results yet. Did you feel like you had it? Just curious since I need it for my comorbidity.

I was surprised to find out that I have to pay all my co-pays, deductables and out of pocket expenses up front to the surgeon's office prior to surgery. The surgeon's office states because this is considered an elective surgery. I'm not sure if this is an insurance rule or surgeon's rule but good to know since my fee's will be several thousand dollars. yikes!

sharonsjourney got a reaction from TinyTink in Liquid Diet?
I had my appointment with the nutritionist today and was happy to learn my pre-op liquid diet is not all liquid! Yay! I was so nervous! I will have 2 Protein Shakes a day, 2 Snacks and a Protein and veggie dinner. I can't say I'm excited to get started but I am relieved! I hope this helps for anyone who was freaking out like me ????

sharonsjourney got a reaction from KathyLynn160 in What happens if?
First, make sure you account for your correct height. I thought I was 5'2"' but actually I am 5'2 & 3/4s. The 3/4 of an inch ruined my initial appointment with the surgeon. I had been working on getting my BMI up to 40 for insurance to cover the surgery without a co-morbidity; I went to the appointment with all the confidence in the world and was shocked I was falling under 5'3" height on the BMI chart. Oh yeah, forgot to say that also the scale in the office was 4 lbs less than mine at home. Now I have to go through a sleep study ugh! The nurse told me many people put rolled coins in their pockets if they are close to the 40 BMI and kind of recommended it. When I asked what would happen if I lost weight and fell under 40 before surgery she said it did not matter. If you are close, coins, ankle weights, do what you can to ensure a smooth first office visit.
