Uh oh! First, here is a hug from Chicago.
Secondly, since when is meat and veggies yucky, and edible chemical-laden crap from a factory your best option for self indulgence?
I am sure you have heard the saying "If you keep on doing what you have been doing, you are going to keep on getting what you have been getting."
So, you have to change your thinking in order to change your results.
Don't start tomorrow. Start with the next thing that goes in your mouth.
You need to think of your body as a mechanical container for the spiritual you - that essence
of being that makes you who you are. You need to respect that machine and give it the proper nutritional fuel that it needs. Your wouldn't try to make your car run on Pepsi instead of gas.
Would you let a toddler run out into traffic because it can? I hope not. You need to stop your self imposed pity party and take control of this situation...starting right this minute.
Stay around and absorb everything you can from this site. Many of us do falter along the way. Encouragement and tough love" from this forum helps turn us around.
I assume that no one is force-feeding you and that you voluntarily put this factory crap in your mouth. By coming here, you are at least reaching out for help. Opinions and tact will vary, but we have your best interest at heart.

Hello, I am going through the process now.
I attended the 3 month options class from June 16 - Sept 1 in Hollywood/Sunset.
I am scheduled for surgery, the sleeve, tomorrow.
    I lost 25 lbs pre-op following the nutritionist/Options suggestions.
I just added walking and reduced my calories to 1200 daily.
I feel Kaiser prepared me well.
    So far, so good.

@ I USE to be over 5'8" but apparently I am now just under 5'8" so I actually could have listed a higher BMI. When I was told the difference I was dumbfounded. The doctors office said it just gives me a bump zone.

I am pretty close. I don't have to take a 12 week class but I have to do 4 month supervised weight loss program. I am glad for the time...to adjust my calorie intact slowly. I will end up a month behind. Next week is my first appointment next Wed. This was the first available since mid December

I want to encourage anyone who may be anxious or nervous or think that they will not get approved because I was all of those things .I did stay in prayer and I know whatever God has for me will be. Being approved ..were my prayers being answered and one of the best days of my life. I just wanted to scream and cry and shout. Now that my life will be forever changed I know that I will have to do my part to keep this new life style.

@ my first weigh counted at the surgeons office. are you at least 5'5"? if you are truly 5'4.99" you can be listed as 5'4" and your BMI will be elevated a bit.

Hi everyone, I am so ready to start eating healthy for my day. Since I am still waiting for my appointment for the information session on 1/6.. I'm curious about when they count your first weigh-in. Is it in the very first information class before my 12 week course classes? Or is it that very appointment that I have on 1/6? I'm trying to maintain my weight because I barely hit the qualifying BMI. So I can't start yet or I won't qualify anymore, but I want to so badly. I'm so motivated and ready! Thank you so much in advance for the info. ♡♡♡

I know it's nothing to be excited about, but I feel like things are coming along. I am so excited. Today I scheduled my appointment for the information session that Kaiser requires before taking a 12 week class before a surgery date! I guess I'm just excited that it's really going to happen. Woohooo!!

It is absolutely something to be excited about! A lot of good information was given in that session. I am actually of the opinion that those were the slowest 12 weeks of my life but I am glad I went through it. I started options at 260lbs, I had surgery on 7/6 and I am currently 164lbs.

LoveMyBypass reacted to BigViffer in Made it to goal. Hurrah?
Well it finally happened, I made it to my originally stated goal and the one that my surgeon also agreed upon. I've so looked forward to this that I had built it up in my mind as a momentous occasion that would be a auspicious event and streamers and confetti would rain down from the sky while a baptist church chorus sang hallelujah.
Well that didn't happen. My stall before hitting goal had lasted 6 weeks and I thought for sure that would make the victory all the more sweeter, so I didn't mind the stall. I just kept on keeping on and working out. Then on the 22nd when I did my weekly weigh in it finally happened. 218 lbs, actually 2 lbs less than my goal. Know what I felt?
    Alright, cool.
Then it hit me, "Wait a minute, that's under goal. Why aren't I whooping and hollering?!"
I am at the weight I was before I met my wife, some say that I look better than I ever have. (the grey hair makes you look distinguished!) My health is better than it has been in a decade. And I personally feel better than anytime that I can remember. This is what I wanted, this is what I asked for help in achieving. So why am I not elated?
I think it comes down to now that I know what I have accomplished, I think I know what I am capable of. I want more. I don't just want to be thinner and healthier. I want to be able to do the things I have never been able to do, even before I got fat. I want to be able to do a pull up. Just one. I want to have a chest and not any moobs. I want my wife to suck on her teeth and look at me like a piece of meat!
So that's the new goal. I figure it took 308 days to get here, so I'll give myself another 308 to get there.
So for posterity sake, here is the beginning and current pictures:

    And healthy Paul 12-22-2015

Kaiser's bariatric program is called Options. It is a 12 week program. During the program you are required to lose some weight and do lots of tests like an EKG, A1c if you're Diabetic, a stool test, and lots and lots of blood tests. I actually enjoyed the program because you meet bi-weekly with others who are going through the same process so you have people to connect with and relate to. Good luck. The process goes faster than it sounds.

Congrats on starting your journey the first step is the hardest. Expect a lot of testing pulmonary cardiology stress loads of blood test thyroid heart EKG psychological just to name a few my doctor gave me a list for the 6 months before my surgery and a proposed schedule of when I should see ascertain specialist or have a certain test done it helped a lot because by the end when I need to submit a reason to my insurance all my ducks were in a row now it is 6 months later and I'm having my surgery tomorrow 12/16 best of luck to you in hindsight the hardest part the 6 months was my own food demons so I took the six months to scale back the things that I need to get used to Mike reducing sugar carbs portion sizes eliminating soda alcohol fast food etc I had to cut down on my social life a bit because it's hard to resist when you're out with a bunch of friends and everybody's having a great big meal and you need to learn that this will not work after the surgery so I've become a bit of a recluse the last 6 months but the day is tomorrow and I'm feeling optimistic best of luck to you the time flies
