Are we dealing with the same office??? Omg I had the same issues with mine! I would of been sleeved 2 weeks ago and probably not being sleeved May 25, had I not stayed on top of things!! I kept calling my insurance company and they kept insisting nothing was sent. The surgeons office INSISTED they submitted, nobody would retune my call. Finally I asked to speak to the doctor and then things got rolling!! I was finally submitted Thursday with an approval on Friday!! I'm having surgery next Wednesday, 6 days after being approved! I've done everything that was required of me and I had to stay on top of the office staff!! It was frustrating but my surgeon is awesome and it was worth it! I'm so excited now.

Yesterday I had a bad diet day. I had people over for a game night and participated in the demolishing of a pack of m&m Cookies. I went to bed feeling guilty and upset with myself.
I am SO close to reaching onederland and a 100lbs loss (currently 204.0, 197.6 will be -100lbs). Today I refocused, worked out with my trainer, it's only 12:30pm and I'm half way to my Water and Protein goals!
If I can do it SO CAN YOU! If you had a bad day brush it off and start over. We can do this!

Even funnier are those by people who have. I do realize that when people research surgery, they may not research all the varieties (or even their own!!), so of course there may be misunderstandings, but when other WLS patients spout off "facts" about surgery with no real basis for their beliefs, I've got to laugh.
It's been an epidemic around here lately, so let's see which "facts" we can debunk.

**DISCLAIMER. I am NOT an expert on anyone but me. I had sleeve surgery. I am confident that I can not talk about bypass, bands, balloons, revisions, switches, etc. with any personal knowledge. This thread is for sh!ts and giggles only.**

Sleeves do not "grow back". I know the whole stretching thing is debatable but I can say without a doubt, they don't grow. And yes, there is a difference.

You cannot feel your staples through your skin. If you can, you've lost far too much weight and should seek immediate medical attention.

If you have a sleeve, you do NOT have a pouch.

liquid will not stretch your sleeve no matter what kind of liquid it is. Liquid runs through a sleeve quickly.

You can eat around your sleeve (I did it yesterday), so you do have to be forever mindful of this tool you now possess.

Your way is not the ONLY way nor is MY way. Neither are the BEST way, either. There are a lot of different roads, hopefully they all end up at the same destination.

You cannot/will not poop out your staples. Really.

The short version is I spent a long night in the E.R. with chest pain, dizziness, clamminess, nausea. Turns out to be inflammation of the cartilage that attaches your ribs to your sternum and spine. Painful, scary, but not dangerous. No cardiac involvement at all.
While I was there, I thought of you all. I was about to tell someone that if something happened, they had to come here and tell my peeps. Cuz y'all are my peeps. Just so you know.

SusanB55 reacted to NikkiDoc in mild sleep apnea - I'm pissed
My surgeon did not make me get a sleep study. He based it on talking to me about my sleep habits and talking to my husband about me sleep habits. We also discussed how much energy I have and how often I nap, which is about once a month or month and a half. Based on those discussions he determined I did not need to consult either a pulmonologist or get a sleep study.
The other surgeon in the practice apparently makes every patient get either a sleep study or have a consult with a pulmonologist.
Sleep apnea is under diagnosed in the general population anyway. It is a larger issue for people that are obese. For most surgeons having all of their patients have a sleep apnea test and/or a pulmonary consult is a protection for them. This way they make sure you make it through the surgery and the initial number of months without issues.
I would actually talk to your surgeon (not his staff) about the results of the sleep study to determine if you really need to buy the CPAP based on your results. If he does require you to use it then I would look into a short term rental. Or if you need to show up with one ask around to see if you can borrow one or buy one off of Craig's list. A really high percentage of people stop using them after a few months. If they go to make you actually use it at the hospital claim you get claustrophobic with it and can't use it.

Seriously??? OMG, that's utterly ridiculous! I called several times to BCBS AZ (Fed plan) and was treated so well and all my questions were answered. Yes, they had their requirements and the surgeon had his, but they should still quote benefits. I did medical billing for 13 years and this is the norm!

@@Laura Lopez I've never heard of that insurance but even more importantly, I've never heard of an insurance company NOT giving you your benefits. I would call them back and ask for the supervisor. If she tells you the same thing, ask who CAN give you the benefits. Something doesn't smell right!

Pffffft. What insurance do you have? Call the insurance yourself and/or look it up in your benefits book. The insurance staff at my office messed up on my husbands appts so I had to raise a stink about it. Ended up we submitted his case with only 2 NUT appts instead of 3 required.

Well, i welcome having you as my fellow abnormal weirdo lol! For dinner tonight I increased the refried beans to 1/4 cup and the cottage cheese to 1/8 cup. That was more satisfying so maybe you can try that! I am pretty tired of Protein shakes and its only been a week. Aaaagh! I discovered Atkins Lift Protein Drinks and they are good. Have you tried those yet? They have 20 gm protein.

I am 8 days post op and went for my first post op today. I only lost 6 pounds, which I'm not complaining about! I'm just surprised it wasn't more considering what I "ate" for 7 days!! Oh well, I'll take it.
Also had first soft foods today. I easily ate 1 scrambled egg today with no problem. For lunch I ate 1 ounce of refried Beans and 1 ounce of cottage cheese. Had no problems again and even 30 minutes later, I just didn't feel like it was enough food. Is 2 ounces of food per meal "normal" at this stage?

Weird, I could have written this post today too. I had my first post op this morning, 9 days after surgery. Since then I've eaten one scrambled egg and I'm eating refried Beans right now. I'm eating about the same amount as you are, and feeling fine. I'm actually tolerating this better than my Protein drink. On doctors orders, I'm switching to almond milk. Not sure if I'll be one of those who end up lactose intolerant, or if my body is just taking awhile to like milk again.
Anyway, if it's not "normal" at this stage, then we can both be weirdos together.
