Welcome all!! So happy you all replied! Sounds like we all have a lot in common being Nov Sleevers! I'm going through a lot of what you all are. Don't get a lot of solid foods down. Basically only about 3 oz of animal Protein 3x a day, little veg/fruits, thank goodness for Protein Shakes bc I would never get 60g of protein in! I'm getting enough fluids but I have literally drink all day. Started taking a daily antacid this am bc everything gives me indigestion. Can't eat anything even remotely spicy which I really miss but what can you do? I'm continually looking for creative ways to get protein in so if anyone has suggestions or tricks, let me know please! I've lost 46 lbs as of today. Started back to the gym last week and loving it. No dumping for me but I eat really clean so that helps. I did cheat today with more carbs than usual but it's the only day so far. I'm thinking about starting a private page on FB for us... Would anyone be interested? I think it would be easier. Let me know! So glad to have you all here. I'm gonna share my before and current pics. Feel free to share yours!

Thanks, @@bsilva! I definitely feel much better. I have a good distance left to go, but everything is already so much easier. Being 500+ lbs involves a lot of planning! It isn't much fun worry about things like can I park close enough to where I need to go?, how early do I have to leave for a meeting so as to not arrive sweaty and out of breath?
I count Protein, carbs, fat, and calories using an iPhone app (mynetdiary). I am sufficiently nerdy that I like generating the charts of the nutrients that I take in and the pounds that I lose. I initially had trouble getting enough Protein and staying within the calorie bounds. That is the place where using shakes as a supplement has been helpful for me. I start the day with one and then follow with a fat-free Greek yogurt a little bit later. That gets me to 42 g of protein pretty early in the day. From there, I try to eat something that gets me 20 g of protein for each of lunch and dinner. A second shake or a high-protein snack gets me close to 100 g protein goal. Honestly, I don't make it every day, but I never fall below 80 g of protein.

@@Thucydides wow!!! 102 pounds is a lot I bet you look and feel great! Thanks for the food options. Do you keep tabs on your carb intake or just calories? So far I'm at 400-500 calories a day, but I'm having trouble with my Protein intake...

    Thanks so much
You all helped me feel better and stop thinking I made a mistake
It kinda reminds me of the first months of my babies, they are now 10 yo and 8 yo.
I had c sections and had to "survive" the pain, the sleepless nights and all the adjustments to a new life.
I guess now I am the baby since this is my new life. I guess it is like being reborn. I was thinking about this today when I was eating my pureed food just like a baby...
    Thanks for your support.

First of all, are you on a PPI? Some of what you are describing as "hunger" and stomach grumbling could just be excess stomach acid. If your surgeon didn't prescribe you a PPI post-op, you can buy them over the counter (Prilosec or Nexium) at just about any drug or grocery store.
How are you eating chicken already at a week post-op? Are you at least pureeing it? There is NO WAY I could have handled food like that so early on. A week post-op, the most "solid" food I was allowed was drinkable yogurt and I think maybe cottage cheese? I was mostly on Protein shakes and strained Soups at that point.
But as for your bigger question about whether you will ever feel normal again, I promise you will! That was my biggest question and concern in my early weeks post-op too. I must have asked that question a thousand times. I dreaded that I would always feel uncomfortable and irritable and tired! I was worried I would never be able to eat like a normal person again or go out with friends. But, I promise, you WILL get there. Just be patient and focus on the day-to-day for now. Get your Protein and Water in. Walk as much as you can. And make sure you take all your meds and Vitamins.
Day-by-day it will get a little easier and easier and one day you will wake up and you will feel like a human again.

@@scarlep please go to the doctor.
I did not and ended up in the ER with cholecystitis and pancreatitis and then had to suffer for a bit because my gallbladder was too infected for surgery, and then I had it out 6 months post-op. After the VSG it was no big deal and I was back at work in less than a week and I have had no issues since.
I hope you feel better soon and please go to the doctor!

I've been a freeze baby since surgery. 11/19. And it's 70 in December!! Can't imagine if it was a normal winter. Haha. I'm hoping it doesn't last.

Getting in my Protein is near impossible. It makes me gag. I'm trying to mix vanilla Protein in to my vanilla Greek yogurt to get some in but, ugh. I had to stop my pain meds because the taste was making me gag, so now I'm sore and crabby.
I got in about 40 oz of fluids in so far today, which is a huge improvement. Earlier today I was worried I'd have to take a trip to the hospital for an IV. I'm pretty sure my veins have shriveled up and died.
I've been super weak and fatigued but the gurgling in my stomach is lessening day by day which is making it easier to eat. I had planned on going back to work tomorrow but there's just no way I can do it. I'm so looking forward to puréed foods on the 15th!
I knew what to expect before the surgery but man, I had no idea how hard it'd be. Anyone who says this is the easy way out has absolutely no idea how hard it is.
