lasmith0802 got a reaction from Donna415 in 6 or 7 months medically supervised diet?!
@@Donna415 I was thinking of calling my insurance and asking again. I'm not sure why they said that. Maybe they misunderstood what I was saying. I called my surgeons office today, I'm waiting on a call back. Hopefully it dose only take a day for approval:) and hopefully the lady at my surgeons office was wrong[emoji52]

Right, I guess I see every other group having a voice in the media etc... Even transgender people who comprise less than 1% of the population are being accommodated with the bathroom if they self identify... I have self identified I have a problem with weight and every doctor who has treated me identifies it too... Yet I'm left wondering if I'll be approved or denied treatment.

This is so insane we have to go through this will I or will I not get approved to have my disease treated. There should be some kind of action we could take to bring attention to what's being done to us.

Working for an insurance company helps me a little with knowing medical policies and whatnot but we can only follow what the medical policy states. The doctor may be saying that insurance companies like to see 7 visits but have you spoken with your ins to find out? I have and work for Highmark bcbs, ours states 6 consecutive monthly visits with at least 3 weeks between each visit.
When I went to my surgeon, he wanted to consider that as my first weight check but since my surgeon is 1.5 hours away, he agreed to let me do then checks with my pcp who I went to see the next week.
I do know that authorizations can take as little as a day to as long as a monthly depending on if something is missing when the original authorization is submitted but it is not something that a customer service agent can control.
Good luck and I hope our months go by quickly!

I am 6 months post surgery today and I have already reached so many of my "goals". I can cross my legs. I can shop in the regular size section. I ran a 5K about a month ago and have another one in early June. I am off all my weight related meds. I fit comfortably in an airline seat without a belt extender. I found my cheek bones and collar bones. Still working on the hip bones!
I am not telling you all this to brag, but so you know that it is coming! You will get there.
Still on my list, single digit clothing sizes. (currently a 16 edging towards a 14.) Getting into ONEDERLAND!!! Running/doing a marathon in under 6 hours (scheduled for October 9th). Doing a mini triathlon in under an hour (scheduled for August 14th). Being able to build a decent, small size wardrobe once I hit goal (not goodwill and second hand clothes that only fit for a month or so). Getting to a point where people don't remember the fat me.
You can all do it! We all can.

Here's a little follow up since my original post!!
I am now almost 3 week post op! I feel fantastic! In my original post I was so nervous about my sons class trip to the zoo that was 2 weeks post op. Well I had no problem going on that trip last week. I had energy to keep up. I just started pureed that day so I packed extra Water with me and kept sipping all day and a yogurt for lunch time. I took a few spoonfuls of yogurt and was fine. No one else thought anything of it. The following day I had plans with a friend for my son and I to come over for a pizza play date. We went and I just said i was on a special diet brought a yogurt with me and declines the wine for water due to my "diet".
The first few days post op were tiring but after day 3 or 4 I was raring to go. For me meal times were a little tough bc I do have 3 small children to prepare meals for. Breakfast and lunch were no big deal. dinner was hard to make and sit down with my bowl of broth but it was short lived and it gets easier each day. So far I'm very happy with my decision to get sleeved.
As far as keeping the secret to yourself it can be done and I wouldn't worry about anyone else. I'm talking about dieting and exercise with friends so hopefully it just looks like that's where he weight loss came in to play.
My advice is just to be confident and this is our story we don't have to live an open book for the world to know.
Negative people will make comments whether they no or not so just be confident in yourself and don't let anyone else get in your head!
Cheers to you all! Good luck on your journey!! ❤️❤️❤️

I had a 6 month weight loss for my ins also. What the woman did was count the 1st meeting with the surgeon as my 1st visit then the next time my visit with the nut was the actual 1st weight one. So it equals 7 visits and 6 weights or months. It's crazy just jump through there hoops and let them approve you my last one is a week from tomorrow!! I'm so ready to get this new journey started lol I plan on bugging ins too

Today is my last weigh in of my six-month medically supervised diet...or so I thought.
I called my surgeons office and told them that my last weigh-in was coming soon. They told me that the insurance likes to see you finish the program and weigh in one last time. Really!? If you say 6 months then it should be 6 months, not 7! Grrr

I love the look on the server's face when my honey and I tell them we will share a meal! He is a tall large guy and I am well...still not a little gal. We usually both get Water... I think they must think we are broke or homeless...lol At least they look at us that way...lol

Oh my God, I was just approved! I am excited. And I am scared as hell. I was not expecting this wash of mixed emotions! I can't even really say why I am so scared. I have done extensive research, preparation and planning and I'm as ready as I'll ever be. I am not going to back out but I am going to freak out some and probably cry a bit too!

Ok so I have a couple of new things to report. I called my Surgeons office to let them know of my dual insurance situation. They insisted on this since if the exchange policy finds out about the work policy, they may refuse to pay for some reason. So I called them and they assured me that the dual insurance would not result in nullification of my policy. They did say that they would do coordination of benefits with the other insurance. Meanwhile, the office contacted my new insurance to verify benefits with them and I am covered there as well. Each company has the same set of rules for covering the surgery. Still, the Obamacare policy, to which the office originally submitted, has not issued the approval so I am waiting on pins and needles still and very worried.
I also began my liquid Protein pre-op diet yesterday. OMG I am going to eat my freaking leg! As previously mentioned it is a bum leg anyway! Dang I'm hungry! I don't know how I can do this for two weeks. Also, it would totally suck if I did this liquid diet just to be denied! The good news is that if the obamacare policy denies me, I can drop them and use the other policy, for which I currently meet all requirements. Unfortunately that would delay the surgery at least a week or two. Also, the new policy has a lower deductible of 1500 vs 3500 but it only pays 80% after deductible vs 100 % of deductible on the other. Okay excuse me now while I season my leg.
