KS Medicare patient...
I am going to Sedalia for the next available seminar. I called Dr Malley's office today and I now understand what you said about the $5000. She said $5300 then Medicare would pay for the hospital bill. She said I would have to sign a paper saying I wouldnt even try to get Medicare to REIMBURSE ME for the $5300. I dont understand that at all. Am going to the seminar anyway. I brought up Sedalia and she said that they (Sedalia) had told her that they were booking surgeries for 2yrs from now! Let me know what they tell you. I think I am going to call Sedalia and see if they confirm that. If thats the case I dont know if I want to waste my time even going down for a seminar. I cant handle waiting THAT long. I just cant believe all this.

Husbands
If the two of you made the decision together to spend the money I would remind him of that. And also tell him if he had issues with it now isnt the time to tell you. He should have voiced those before you all spent the money. I agree sounds to me like he is seeing you lookin good and it is making him insecure.

Having problems getting Psycologist approval
i took the BIG test at Shawnee Msn. Dr Sabapathy gave it to me. I had to see him for 2 months of appts (I must be a real head case). By the time we got that out of the way, they could no longer take my insurance. So now I am at the mercy of Medicare. That test is wierd.....questions that dont make sense, then you go along and they ask the same question 2 pages later! tryin to slip you up! have fun Tracy.

Taking Meds??
How do you take your medicines after surgery? There are several I MUST take, some you cant crush or split, how do you take them without them getting stuck? I havent had surgery yet so I have some questions and I havent seen this addressed. Thanks

KS Medicare patient...
Thats great to know someone close by is using him. I have been waiting since Feb of last year for somewhere in the KC Metro area to become a Ctr of Excellence. Ive decided I cant wait any longer. My husband and I will go down for the Feb seminar, I called Sedalia and the receptionist said the are scheduling consults for MAY!! I cant imagine when the surgery will be for. I will go anyway and am hoping in the mean time somewhere local will get approved for Medicare. I have noticed on here I dont seem to get alot of responses to comments when I mention say Medicare, maybe I am just being paranoid. I have added you to my buddy list here (I dont know for sure what that does). Goodluck when you go. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. Let me know how it goes after youve seen him. Sharon

Holy crap
ReneBean.....the Dr said you were TOO big for lapband? I wonder what he considered too big, where did you have the surgery? I have never heard that. That scares me, I wonder if a Dr could say that to me. I want the lapband becuz it is the least invasive of all the options. I have been looking into this for over a year. I have Medicare and that stopped everything when they decided to cover lapband last year. I got discouraged and gave up. I have now found a Dr and hospital that will take the Medicare but looks like it will be at least a 6month wait. And it is a 2 hour drive from my home!

January Bandsters???
I havent had lapband surgery, but have had other surgeries. I seem to get the gas settling in my shoulders. Thats probably what you have. Not sure how to get rid of it. I just always have to be patient and let mine go away. Congrats on your surgery, I hope to get banded this year!

KS Medicare patient...
I wish someone here in KC would get Ctr of Excel accreditation. I just talked to Dr Hornbostle's ofc and she said you must to come to seminar (next one Feb 6) ,get their papers to fill out,get Dr records and then they are making appts for MAY for your 1st consult. Thats not even getting the surgery scheduled. Thats a BUMMER!

KS Medicare patient...
Hello, I live in Leavenworth and have been trying to get surgery for about 1 1/2yrs. Am now waiting to go to a seminar in Sedalia with Dr Hornbostle there. Anyone else in the Medicare waiting game?

Sedalia MO...Dr Hornbostle
I have been on a 1 1/2yr journey here. Was on last pscyh (sp) appt..my insurance was going to pay, then Medicare approved the surgery. Dr wasnt with a CTR OF EXCELLENCE and nowhere in KCMetro was. The search was on. I kept waiting for somewhere here local to be designated. But NO!! So...now I am going for the seminar in Sedalia, that is about a 2 hr drive for me. But I have waited long enough. Am afraid I will die before somewhere in KC is approved. SO my question is,who has used Dr Hornbostle?? Any tips with him and his office, is there anything I can do ahead of time so I can be ready to go? Or does anyone have any inside info of a Dr in the KC area getting approved for Medicare? Thanks so much

Kc Metro area dr's
I was in the process of getting ready for lapband surgery earlier this year at Shawnee Msn Hosp by Dr Stanley Hoehn. Then Medicare made their ruling and they are my primary insurance. Everyone at that office was very nice.

I *know* you're out there...
I am here in Ks. I am in the begining stages getting scheduled for Lapband surgery. I have chosen Dr Hoehn at SMMC. Today I went on my 3rd visit to the psychologist and have some concerns I will discuss with him next week. Read some scary stuff tonite on the kcbariatric website, there is a link to read reviews of the hospital and the Dr. All good stuff on Dr Hoehn, which was great. BUT, the night nurses at SMMC sound like the nurses from HELL. Some of the posts were 2-3 yrs old so I hope the staff have read these and cleaned house! I am excited about having surgery and am learning some things. Specifically that I dont think I get enough protein in my diet. Which might be why I am SO hungry at night. Hummm Looking forward to hearing from other Kansas Sunflowers!

Who else here is in research mode?

How about a frozen waffle with a snack cup of peaches on it,yummm!- hello
I am from KS also. Just went to a seminar this week. Husband went with me. They had 5 patients there that had weight loss surgery. Only one was a bander. She had lost 20lbs in 3 months I think. Seemed kinda slow to me. Is that a normal weight loss for that time period? The others had gastric bypass and RouinY (something like that) and had lost SO MUCH more. But that sounds so invasive. I prefer the lapband because its not as invasive. I have to fill out my paper work and get sent in now to start the process. I need to check in here more often for encouragement. Anyone used the Bariatric Ctr at Shawnee Msn??? - BreakFast Ideas
