Honestly, I would stay away. I was also recommended to this site but I have found that r/WLS on Reddit is a much better resource, albeit smaller. Yeah the world isn't black and white, but I don't need negativity masquerading as concern. I haven't been on here in months because of it.

Have you heard the phrase "Minnesota nice"? I'm from western Wisconsin, where we've stolen the idea and made it into an extreme sport! Open forums on the internet are a nightmare. I'll never be able to understand how people can feel free to verbally abuse others for any reason whatsoever. I also don't buy the "tough love"argument. If you can't find a way to tell someone that their behavior is self - destructive without tearing apart their self - esteem, then you should keep your opinion to yourself. They have enough problems without you adding to the mix. That being said, I agree with those that advise you to carefully pick your way through this minefield called the internet. Good luck on your journey!

I had surgery 4th july, I see my team for the second time October 12th. I have not lost much since my 6 week check up ... 6LBS!!! and i am 10 weeks out. I cant turn up and disapoint them as they thought I was doing so well, I have done everything right. But I cant bare the thought of turning up and they are looking at me with disapointment.

So it seems the only thing i can do is go back to Protein Shakes for the month and i will be sure to have dropped something by then? Am I crazy or is this okay? i have emailed the TWO NUTS on my team and NEITHER HAVE EMAILED ME BACK its been like 12 days , to tell them im in a stall. luckily i have lost 3lbs since my stall. I just feel like a failure. and feel like i need to do something drastic. Is this my crazy brain? i dont know?

I drove the second day from surgery and I was fine...my dr only gave me Tylenol for pain after surgery and when I went home...my daughter needed to get to work...I wouldn't call myself irresponsible...I had very minimal pain and no nausea

I was stuck at same weight for over 10 days. It's a bummer!! I just kept believing I was doing the right things and it would happen. And today ( which is my four week anniversary) I lost another pound. I'd love more but thrilled to see the scale move again. It will for you too- hang in there!

you are so desperate to fight with everyone and anyone. i respect myself enough not indulge you in fighting. OP created this mess. disagree with her and i bet you wont be defending her and bashing everyone else. some people thrive on that and its apparent you do. i dont need to go toe to toe with you and have you criticize every little thing just so you can feed your need to TRY and make people feel like crap. I am working very hard on being as successful as i can with my surgery. NO REGRETS. sorry OP has regrets. That is her issue. if you want to help her give her sound advice not an online bodyguard. personally i dont care what education level you have when you start attacking people on theirs it just shows one thing school cant teach you and thats to be humble and when to keep your mouth shut. i think you need therapy behind all your MEN bashing and anger towards other people. i will pray that God gives you a softer heart but dont think you are going to draw out a fight from me by calling me weak because you just showed that you are the weak one. The loudest arent the strongest they just have a deep seeded need for attention.

Sometimes, support can include "serious negativity". A black and white view of the world is not healthy, and seeing feedback that makes you uncomfortable as solely "negative" might make it harder for you to recognize and implement good advice. I know there is a lot of immaturity and some people may be downright mean but sometimes negativity may be important.
For example, if you post here that you're afraid you ruined your surgery because you ate a whole pizza, you'll likely get some negative feedback. This is because many of us (myself included) are subjected to a litany of idiotic classes by our insurance companies about diet. Moments of weakness are understandable but the answer isn't to baby people, the answer is to light a fire under people's butts to get them to make the necessary changes to make this surgery a success.

I had surgery in 2014 and then a revision on 9/1 of this year. I have noticed that the site has changed considerably between my first surgery and my second (more trolls/fighting) but I think it's still a very valuable source of information and support if you can look past it. I agree with @OutsideMatchInside that this is just part of the nature of the internet, and you have to take advice from strangers on the internet with a grain of salt. There are lots of nice people on here though, and I would encourage you to reach out to individual posters for advice and support. Good luck!

Well, I've been on a couple of the forums, but darn, there's a lot of attitude here. I get the whole hormonal thing, and Lord knows, the hunger thing, but I need support - not serious negativity!!!

Everyone is hungry with raging hormones. Short answer.
This forum is still nicer than a lot of others.
WLS community is cut throat, just like the rest of the internet.
There is lots of good information here, just ignore people you don't like and keep going.

I just joined this site yesterday and I was surfing the forums, and I couldn't help recognizing all of the fighting...is this normal? My doctor recommended this site as a source of support as I start this journey, but I'm not so sure. Is this site always so negative?

Hey everyone! I had my surgery on August 1, and I'm feeling great. I would love a group of people to share this journey with. I'm looking for some buddies who are going through the same things I am. My family is very supportive, but they don't really understand. Anyone game? We can do weigh in's if you want or just be there to support each other. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Both at the same time. Then with stalls, during a stall I lose inches. Which is why people should take their measurements every week, or at least once a month. Weight, stall, inches, weight. Rinse and repeat that has been the pattern the whole time. I wouldn't know that if I didn't track. Tracking helps you not panic because you understand what is going on.
