Excessive Burping after surgery?
I am a little over a month out from surgery and I burp all the time as well. It also hurts a lot sometimes but I attribute that to my hiatal hernia repair. I wouldn't mind burping all the time as long as it doesn't hurt! Nice to know someone else share my misery.

Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?
I don't think the eggs are going to hurt you. They aren't carbs, they are protein. Carbs are what will affect your liver the most and that is the objective of the pre-op diet, to shrink your liver. You can call your doctor to be sure but I can't see him canceling because of two eggs a day. I was on a high protein/low carb diet up until two days before surgery. That is when I had to be on clear liquids. Contact your doctor, explain your situation and see what he says.

List your lapband confessions here.
You know, they say you shouldn't use food as a reward. But, I know me and I know that if every now and then I don't get to indulge that I will eventually feel deprived and that's when I will binge. I need to be able to satisfy that sweet tooth every now and then (maybe once a month or so) without feeling guilt. I have felt guilt every time I have eaten for a very long time now and that is something I need to shed myself of. I should be able to Celebrate my success or indulge like a grown up without beating myself over the head for "slipping up". Slipping up is going back to the way I used to eat. Not enjoying a sweet treat every now and then. I say go for it, enjoy it, savor it, then get your fill and get back to business! Hugs!

Gas Pain In My Left Shoulder!! :[
Thanks Melinda! I'm down another two pounds today! I think my pain is very slowly but surely getting better. It's not quite as bad as it used to be (both the shoulder pain and the burping pain) but it's still there enough to be annoying. It will be nice whenever I get back to the point of feeling completely normal again. That scale going down sure helps take my mind off of it though!

If this is being bad--I'll take more
I'm having exactly the same experience! I was terrible yesterday but not as bad as I normally would have been pre-band. I also am having a mega visit by Aunt Flow for some reason. I'm not sure if it is that, or my changing eating patterns or a combination of both or what. All I know is that after two weeks of not budging I have suddenly dropped seven lbs in a week! Like you said, whatever it is, I'll take it!

How honest are you with your surgeon?
I guess they are just used to having their patients not adhere to the bandster way of eating. But they really shouldn't assume that they aren't just because they've plateaued. I think he will be more than pleased with my results this week!

Holy Cow...Beautiful Rejection
Isn't that the weirdest thing? Hooray I'm overweight! LOL Just makes me giggle! You have to go read my confession before you make any predictions about my BMI though!

List your lapband confessions here.
Okay, I have my first real confession. Today we went out for brunch. I hadn't had anything to eat yet and it was already early afternoon, not to mention the fact that all I had yesterday was a hamburger patty and two Protein shakes so I was pretty well good and hungry. I ordered two eggs, two strips of bacon and some hash browns. Well they got the order mixed up and brought me pancakes with my eggs and bacon so of course they left them there and also brought me my hash browns! Long story short, I ended up eating about half the hash browns, one of the small pancakes, most of my eggs and both pieces of bacon. Then! My son got a slice of pie and I picked at the chocolate frosting from the top! I don't even want to log my food as I know my carbs are through the roof! (Did I mention the maple syrup?) UGH. Tonight I had to get fast food for the kids so I went up to Wendy's and got them their burgers and fries. I got a large chili and only ate half of it so that one meal earlier was almost all I ate today. Hoping I didn't blow it too bad. The scale will let me know in a couple of days. Of course it will go up when I have my dr appt on Tuesday! I think it maybe time for a fill. I shouldn't have been able to eat that much. I could have eaten even more but I pushed it away. I had really good restriction until I got my monthly visitor over the weekend. Then I started dropping pounds like crazy and it appears also lost what restriction I had. Hopefully a little bump will do me good!

Hah! I got rejected too!!!!! ROFL!!!!!!

Holy Cow...Beautiful Rejection
LOL Becca that's great!!!! I entered my numbers today for my new weight (237!) and according to that weight my BMI is at 36! I started at 40. So according to my new BMI, I would now have to have some pretty serious comorbidities to qualify for surgery. How neat is that? (Going to the Allergan site to see if I can get rejected too! LOLOLOLOL)

Banded 3 Days ago.....Was it the right thing to do???
Yes, they should give you medications for both to take home.

Post surgery- Pantar fasciitis pain
No, they didn't address my plantar fasciitis at all. I was day surgery so it probably didn't matter. I haven't worn night splints in a while. They didn't do anything for me and were hard to sleep in. Hoping weight loss will help some.

Banded 3 Days ago.....Was it the right thing to do???
Bibo Are there any local support groups in your area? Does your doctor have a therapist you can speak to about your relationship with food? What is normal exactly? Being able to run through the drive-thru and order a Big Mac and a large order of fries? Maybe that has become normal in our culture but it's not healthy at all. We have become a fast food world in a fast food mindset. Even regular home cooking. I would make these big delicious meals and I would absolutely stuff myself. Two helpings! Two platefuls! At that rate, I wasn't going to be able to survive to see my grandchildren! There comes a time when you have to decide which is more important and why food has such control over your life. Food for us is very much like booze to an alcoholic. It controls our lives and it wrecks our health because we can't seem to consume it in moderation. You say you can't pick up your two year old right now. At the rate you were going, were you going to be around to see him/her graduate from high school? How many diets have you tried and failed at? I too sometimes think I should have given diet and exercise one more try. Well to be honest, I am dieting now! I have to watch my carbs and my calories. I have to make good food choices. But the one thing my band helps me with is quantity. Even if I do indulge in some mashed potatoes, I can't consume nearly the amount I used to! I am in a partnership with my band. It can't do it without me and I can't do it without my band. It definitely sounds like you have not come to terms with the changes you are going to have to make in order to be successful. This is a drastic lifestyle change and commitment. But it's a commitment to yourself and to your family. You're not going to be any good to them if you cannot move around or have diabetes, sleep apnea or any of the other comorbidities associated with obesity. You and I deserve to be healthy and happy people, not someone who is a slave to food. Find someone you can talk to locally to help you through this transition.

umm... $5000 dr. fee????????
My surgery was same day surgery performed in an outpatient surgery center. It is usually up to your doctor if you can have it done outpatient or they require you to stay overnight in the hospital. If you have sleep apnea, I know they like you to stay. There are other reasons as well. Check with your doctor.

How honest are you with your surgeon?
When I had to go in last week due to some discomfort I was having, I mentioned to the doctor (not my surgeon but the other surgeon in his office) that I had been plateaued for a couple of weeks. He immediately went in on me about carbs, that I was getting too many. Well, I knew for a fact that I wasn't because I had been tracking them. My surgeon allows for 30 gms of carbs a day excluding green vegetables (I don't have to count them). I rarely ever went over 30 including green veggies! I didn't like being automatically assumed to be guilty of eating too many carbs right off the bat. I know they must have a lot of people who cheat on the band, but they shouldn't assume everyone does. Since that appt, I have relaxed a bit on being so stringent and have actually had some bites of mashed potatoes, sweet potato, six nachos, etc. and I have started losing weight again. (I've also started my monthly which could have been another reason I was plateaued!) I'm not going crazy with the carbs, but I'm not being as severe with my intake as I was before. The only thing I have been having to avoid is the milk, just because it's so high in carbs! If I make a Carnation Instant Breakfast with two cups of milk, that is my entire carb intake for the day and then some! The one thing that helps me though is that it increases my calories which I think I have been deficient in (only averaging around 700-800 a day which is why I think I plateaued). Pre-band, I was on the Three-hour diet which did not exclude carbs. It emphasized portion control, and daily caloric intake (around 1200 a day). I lost like crazy (60 lbs in eight months) before I started losing control of my portion size and began to gain it all back and then some. I figure I can lose weight like that again and with the assistance of my band, remain successful and not revert back to my old ways of over-eating. I didn't get the band in order to feel deprived. I should be able to eat like a responsible and normal person from the main food groups. I will still eat my Protein first, veggies second and carbs last, but I'm not going to deprive myself completely because I know myself and if I feel deprived, I will binge and fail. Sorry to get on a rant but it has bugged me ever since that appt.

Calling all February Bandsters!
Hi Gone! I ride! No the vibration won't make the band slip. The only thing that can cause slipping is repeated vomiting, PBing, etc. My doctor said I could ride as soon as four days after surgery! I didn't really feel up to it until about 10 days post op. But I'm four weeks out now and have been riding my butt off! I ride a Harley Fat Bob. What do you ride?

Gas Pain In My Left Shoulder!! :[
That is more than likely the cause of the pain in your left shoulder. Probably not gas pain. Gas pain should be gone in a few days to a week. I also had a large hiatal hernia and my doctor told me to expect this. I am four weeks post op and still having pain in my left shoulder. It is sporadic. I sometimes get it when I'm hungry or when I've eaten too much. Sometimes it will hurt when I've done too much. Mine was a large repair as well. Do you have intense discomfort when you burp? I have been having a lot of trouble with that, it's been pretty severe. I'm really glad not to have acid reflux at night anymore, but I'm really getting tired of this pain. On a positive not I was down two pounds today after being on a length plateau so that helped to make it worth it.

Banded 2.15.08
Hi and Welcome! I completely relate to you on the not drinking with meals thing. It has definitely been the hardest thing for me to adapt to. Don't worry though it gets easier. My doctor says if I HAVE to have something, go ahead and drink five minutes before eating to quench your thirst, but definitely wait at least 20 minutes after eating. I try to wait 30 if I can. Congratulations on becoming a Double V!

Where do you live?
Hi Leather! I was in Anchorage both times. We had to drive up to Palmer for a visit and also went to Seward. I would love to go back up for pleasure next time and rent a couple of Harley's and see the state from the back of a bike. That would be awesome! If I had the money and could have a summer home, that is where it would be! As an aside, I've never been to Montana but if it is half as gorgeous as Wyoming I would want to have a house there too! LOL

American Idol: Possible Spoilers!!!
Wooo Hooo! Amanda rocked it tonight! Finally she did good! I wonder what is up with her not smiling though. I think she may have really been insulted last week about her attire/hair etc. (Notice how she toned it down this week and looked much better) I was amazed that Simon liked it though. The secret with her I think is that she doesn't need to over do things. She just needs to get up there and rock the joint. Keeping it simple.
