    Acid Reflux, I think

Have you been having reflux since 2001?

    Acid Reflux, I think

My doctor will still give me a fill, I am scheduled for the first week of June for a fill. And I don't have much restriction right now. I just started taking prevacid again, I hate having to take medications again. I thought that the band was suppose to prevent reflux? I'm confused. Thanks for your response. Let me know if you find out if there is another fix for reflux besides medicine.

    Hello Missouri

The lapband is less risk by far and a better way to loose weight. Loosing weight at a slow rate is better for your skin, hair and everything. With the Gastric bypass you loose fast and it doesn't always look good. From what I have seen anyway. I had my surgery Oct 6th-2005 and I have lost 50 pounds since then, I had the surgery at St. Alexis Hospital with Dr. Van Wagner. My insurance covered most of it. It was the best decision I have ever made. Good luck.
  4. Thats sounds like how it was for me when i got my fill the end of January, I had a rough first week and half and then i was o.k., I am still pretty restricted from that fill. But I get my protein and then some and I'm still loosing. Yeah. Good Luck.
  5. Mary Are you getting enough Protein everyday? because if your not then you need to get some taken out. You don't want to loose your hair and muscle tone. Then again if by the second week you can get your protein down then I would say to keep it like it is. That is just from my experience. I am surprised that you can still work out. When I can't eat the correct calories, I get really weak. Good Luck.

    The Gone for Good Club

Thank you for the warm welcome. I am 36 and I was overweight in grade school and lost weight in junior high school, still always a little overweight. I was married in 91 to my husband of 15 years(that I met at church). I had our first daughter in 92 and gained alot of weight with her. I maintained that weight gain plus some and I was at 230 pounds when I looked into lapband. That was my highest weight. I wanted to get a grip on my weight before it got worse. I was banded Oct 6, 2006 and weighed 226 I believe. My goal is to weigh 135, which is 8 pounds less then what I weighed for my wedding day(which is the best I ever felt) I just want to see what it feels like to be a weight I haven't been since Jr. High. I only have 53 pounds to go. I am 188 now and at a standstill. I have done that off and on and it doesn't worry me. It is a healthy way to loose. I am looking forward to weigh in next Wednesday.

    The Gone for Good Club

Is it to late to join this thread? I only weigh once a week and this would be a help!
  8. 67 pounds is awsome, I only lost 40 pounds since I was banded, I am thinking I am ready for another fill as well. I might do one next Monday. You are all making me want a fill, I still have restriction but I stopped loosing and I am eating more then I want to.

    almost 5 months out

It's almost been 5 months out and I couldn't be any happier with my results.:clap2: I am loosing at a good pace and people are noticing constantly that I have lost weight. I go to church every Sunday and people there are constantly coming up to me and asking me what are you doing you look so good. Or you are looking so radiant I can't explain it but you look so different. I just smile ear to ear and tell them thank you so much, you are so sweet for noticing. Most people I just tell them I have cut down on my portions alot and started exercising(which I haven't exercised this past week and I feel sluggish because of that) Some people I tell a little more because they are interested. I stress to them that it still takes work because it does. I was suppose to get my third fill a week ago and I cancelled it because I am still so restricted from the second fill. I can't see getting another fill yet when I still have restriction. I guess it was a little tempting and then I would probably loose another quick ten pounds, but that is unhealthy and I want to do it right. After the second fill I felt kinda sick the first week and I don't want to feel that way until after Easter, lol. I still have mixed emotions from the attention I am getting, I had a guy come into work last week(a crane repairman) He asked me out on a date. I had my wedding ring on, I was flattered because in my fifteen years of marriage I have never been asked out on a date. I just told him that I didn't think my husband would like that to much, he kinda laughed and said yeah that could get in the way. I called my husband right away and told him, I guess I wanted him to be jealous. I hope that is not wrong. He has been joking about my boyfriend the crane repairman since then, so I guess I shouldn't of told him, lol. All in all I guess I have to learn to deal with change, like how people react to my weight loss, and how I am getting a little more attention from other men. These are all good changes but I need to be careful of my emotions and realize that my husband has been there for me through every tough time, every fat time and he loves me so much and I don't ever want to hurt him. I am only human and the attention feels good but I need to keep my head straight. I plan on growing old with my husband. I have to control my wild side..lol, plus I am 36 and I guess this could kinda be a mid life crises:nervous I know one thing I have to get to the gym tonight, I have lost a little over 40 pounds(that could be a small child) hehe. I want to keep loosing so I need to get to the gym again. Plus I might be on tv this Saturday because I work part time with the Foster Care Coalition and they are taping a Grand Reopening of our Kidstore that we have for foster children this Saturday. I manage the volunteers there. I just picture my face melting away the fat when I am sweating up a storm. It is invigorating:cheer2: Thats all for now.

    Confessions of a Lurker

I think it is wonderful that you have had no problems, that is encouraging.
  14. Someone suggested that I put this in this section, so here it is, I found this info in another forum I visit and I think it is good advice. 1st of all, make sure you are taking good care of your face. Lotion your face with a quality facial lotion 2x daily. I use Mary Kay or the Oil of Ole' products. Make sure you clean your face and defoiliate before you apply lotion. Stroke your face in the right direction to support the facial muscles instead of tearing them down. Also learn how to do facial exercises to help build the muscles back in your face. The lotion helps keep the skin supple and the exercises encourages the skin to stay tight. Next make sure you are doing some weight lifting. Some sources believe that when a muscle group is worked, it triggers the skin to tone. Lotion your body as well to help keep the skin supple. I hate putting on lotion, so I use the Oil of Ole' mosturizing body wash. It has worked well so far. Third, take some supplement(s) that help the skin to maintain or regain it's flexibility. I take Colostrum which is "suppose" to help maintain and improve the skins flexibility. As well as increase engergy etc etc. Also, it is also believed that the slower you loose the weight, the less flab you will have. The skin has more time to adjust. In another board I participate in, people have said that the flab will decrease with time. Some plastic surgeons refuse to do surgery until you have maintain your weight for a year. This is for a couple of reasons: 1) if you start regaining the weight after the surgery you can get into trouble quickly, 2) it is felt that it takes a year for the skin to adjust. Forth, if all else fails, the national burn center will sometimes pay for the operation to remove the flabby skin, as long as you donate the skin to the burn center for use on burn patients. I call that a win/win situation. I am not sure what the guidelines are for qualifing for this program, you may want to keep it in mind. I am doing what I can to minimize the flab, understanding that my sister who has never weighed more than 110 pounds in her life has flabby arms and legs<g>. I figure that 1 year after getting the weight off, I will decide what to do then. Keep your chin up, don't let it sag

    Weight loss at 6 months

Just think of where you will be next year at this time if you keep going at that pace, that will be a great accomplishment. Slow weight loss is the healthiest choice.

    New To Forum

Phyllis I just had a fill on 1/28 and I just have been able to eat a couple bites of meat the past couple of days. Your weight loss has been incredible for just having your surgery on Dec 28th. Congratulations and welcome to the forum. I know it has helped me alot with lapband situations.
  21. It just makes the surgery a little more difficult, thats what the nurse in my doctors office said. I never heard of them turning anyone away.

I don't personally know of anyone who has had it done, I only heard of a lady that said she was going to have it done and I wouldn't know how to get a hold of her

    02/10/06 The day of Demise!!

I know what you ate was horrible but it sounds so good. I couldn't eat that if I wanted because I am so restricted right now. I am so hungry for a big juicy hamburger which I haven't been able to eat since Dec. Like you said, you would be eating alot more without the band.
  24. I was suppose to do 7 days of clear liquids and I only did 3, I only lost 7 pounds pre op, 229 to 222, I am 191 now. My surgery was also covered by insurance healthlink because of diabetes in the family and acid reflux.

    In the begining....

My bmi was close to what yours is and my husband was not for the surgery at first either, i am glad I had it 4 months ago and now i have lost over 35 pounds since then. If it makes you healthier then you should do it. that is my idea of it.
