Everyone seems to be obsessed with the scale... I am trying to not base my journey on that number... There are so many NSV's that's occur that I'd miss if I focused solely on the scale. 11 1/2 weeks and down to 178.3. I have 0 complaints... I am very glad I made the decision to have this surgery... Even more glad that I am learning to use it is the tool it was meant to be. I read a lot, say a little. Lots of people compare their journey to that of someone else... Stress stalls weight loss, take the stress off yourself and just take it one day at a time. This surgery was NOT a magic solution. Fact is you can gain the weight back if you don't work the tool effectively......
I'm glad that I've learned this lesson early on. I have a clear road ahead of me. Thank you all for sharing your stories. You're a big encouragement to lil ol me.

Agreed. It's one of the reasons why I make it a point to not weigh every day or even every week. There are so many other wonderful benefits to having this surgery that if I only focus on those numbers on the scale I get crazy.

Stay off the scale. Don't compare your progress to anyone else's. The weight loss will come. Everyone loses differently. Focus on your nutrition. I can't stress enough stay off the scale... Because that will stress you out and stress definitely impacts weight loss.

If they clear you for surgery, I would go ahead with it. You will be on great painkillers and if it is laproscopic, the coughing won't hurt anything. Good Luck!

I am confused. You say you don't understand portions but you do have access to portion information if you have it on the label.
    Just trying to help.

Well my children are 18 and 21 and both live at home. They do their own cooking as they are very independent adult. You can't force grown children to eat what you prepare for meals. I was speaking mostly about wasting food and nobody to share my type of food choices with them. My taste buds has changed so much not everybody can eat the same way as me. So that being said some of my food goes to waste. Would like some ideas on better ways to make my food last longer.

I barely lost until I was past 6 weeks. Once I was able to eat real food the weight fell off. Just follow your program, and stay off the scale.
I think people sabotage their own weight loss by stressing themselves out over the scale.< /p>

Have someone hide the scale, or, better yet, take it out of the house. Start focusing on your program: Protein, Fluid, exercise, instead of the scale.< /p>
And in answer to your question, what you're doing "wrong" is focusing on the scale, instead of your program.

@scarlep. So this may help you...... I went home 13lbs heavier the day AFTER surgery; had lost 10 of the 13lbs ... 10 days later at my first follIw up visit; I lost ZERO pounds for 30 days (that was 3 months after surgery); lost an average of 8lbs a month, reached goal 9 months after surgery AND has been maintaining BELOW goal for 7 months. Soo........hope all the numbers helped. Best to you.

    @@Shainadelphia
"The time I lost weight, I was at a size 12/14 at 200 pounds."
If you meant that you wore 12/14 the last time you lost weight, there are three possibilities; otherwise, two:
    a. You're misrecalling
    b. The item(s) were mislabeled as 12/14
    c. The manufacturer of the 12/14('s) you bought were doing vanity sizing to the wildest degree
Size tags mean little, Shainadelphia, and I hate to be the one to deliver this sad news. There's very little uniformity among manufacturers, but it does seem that 20 is common at 200 lbs. You'll probably be better off and never confused if you measure your progress in other ways.

Just because you CAN, doesn't mean you SHOULD.
I concur with the above advice. Get into the habit of weighing and measuring everything and stop when finished or satisfied, not when full. Don't just count on the sleeve to do all the work. Work that sleeve!

Why are you even attempting to eat so much? Are you weighing and measuring your food? Are you following your plan? Are you getting in all of your Protein and fluids?
I would suggest you make an appointment with your NUT if you are having trouble following your program and/or are unhappy with your progress.

Personally, I had my surgery on a Thursday, and by Monday I was driving my kids to school and went grocery shopping. It took me lots of trips to my car as I couldn't carry much at a time, but I was not an invalid by any means.
