    You may not be eating enough. Especially if you are exercising.
    My surgeon wants her patients during their main weightloss phase to be 900-1200 cals/day. I just had my metabolic rate tested, and my RMR has dropped as I've been well under 800 cals/day for a lot of the past three months. My RMR says I shouldn't have less than 1290 cals/day or shut my metabolism further.
    Something to think about!

    I've been a mad cook since I was small (my mom started me out when I was three, no lie). I'm still a mad cook now that I'm sleeved. For me, the love for prepping food for those I love had little or nothing to do with me consuming what I've cooked. That's been true for years. I bake, but over the past couple years I've lost my taste for sweets. I bake it, but I don't eat it, and it's no hardship, because I simply don't like sweets the way I used to - but I still get a charge out of the doing of it.
    I stopped tasting while I cook quite some time ago, because even pre-sleeve, I found tasting spoiled my appetite for the meal. Someone else does my tasting, or I rely on instinct, which, by this time in my cooking life, is pretty accurate.
    I didn't do much cooking early postop, but I had a rough go early on and I didn't feel like doing much of anything. these days, my cooking is attenuated as we're remodeling the kitchen. Now I'm enjoying more meals out, and feeling the freedom of taking 3/4 of a meal home with me if that's all my sleeve wants. It's amazing how many meals I can get out of one restaurant portion!

    I'm fortunate to live close enough to UC Davis that I had it done at the Sports Medicine Clinic there. If you Google "RMR testing" and your geographic area, you can find places that do it near you.
    But in the meantime, help your metabolism keep alive. Eat more!

    Walking vs. elliptical doesn't matter - and if you overdo the exercise while you're not meeting protein/calorie/fluid goals, it can hinder you to overexercise.

    If you only eat three or four times a day and are not reaching your protein targets then it sounds like you need to eat more frequently.

    My suggestion:
    Stay off the scale until you are able to get in your daily Fluid and protein requirements and get your calories up.
    It is critical for healing and weight loss that you consume enough protein and fluids.
    Until then, it really doesn't matter what the numbers on the scale are.

    if you make a Protein shake with 2% milk it may help with all three goals at the same time. at least until you feel you can eat a little more.

    I agree, your body is starvation mode. Eat more Protein and try to get a walk in every day. The walking will kick your body into gear. Also, I know it sounds weird but get enough sleep. I always stall whenever i get real busy at work and pull a few late/all nighters. Happens every time. I don't know why! I guess your body is working so hard to lose you gotta get your rest!
    Seriously, we are all different and you will start losing.

    Definitely. Your body is in starvation mode - you need more protein and fluids. Hang in there.

    yes. for suggestions I would say you need more calories, more Protein and more Water. keep trying to meet those goals. If you can't meet your goals, then talk to your team. they may have suggestions for YOU based on your overall medical picture.
    Keep with your plan. We all loose at different rates. at some point it will move.

    I've suspected that my metabolic rate was lower than normal even preop from years of yo-yo dieting. Now that I'm fully recovered postop and cleared for all foods, I wanted to see what my RMR (resting metabolic rate) really is.
    UC Davis Sports Medicine Clinic is a little more than an hour from me. For $125 they tested my RMR and gave me a functional mobility assessment.
    The RMR test took about 25 minutes. I learned that my RMR is lower than normal. The exercise physiologist who did that test looked over my preop and postop intake (a period of about three months) and thinks that I've lowered it with too few calories over that period. That said, if I laid in bed all day and didn't even get up to go to the bathroom, I would still need 1290 calories a day. She suggested I not go below that figure, even though she knows I've been sleeved. If I want to get my RMR back to a more normal level, I need to increase both my calories and my activity together. This woman is a PhD in exercise physiology and works with world-class athletes as well as mere mortals like myself. I trust her advice. I say this because I got slammed a while back for following my surgeon's advice to get my intake up to 900-1200 calories each day for my "main" weight loss phase.
    Then I had a functional movement assessment by an MS in biomechanical engineering. It was fascinating. He had me perform seven compound movements, e.g., I was using both my upper and lower body in each of them. He measured my degree of movement, stability, and strength for each movement, and used computer software based on my results to generate an exercise prescription for a set of exercises I can to at home 4-5 times a week to improve each.
    I'm as out of shape as I've ever been, and have a nasty habit of doing too much, too soon, and setting myself back doing that. I now have an individualized prescription for my body and the way it works today, not anyone's guess at what will work.
    I plan to go back in six months or so and be tested again and see if I've raised my RMR. A super well-spent $125, as far as I'm concerned.

    You've really got yourself tied up in knots over all this. I'm sorry you're feeling so out of control.
    You are not going to die because you're having a tough time in the early days. I couldn't keep anything at all down until I was a week postop, and nothing but Clear Liquids after that for another 10 days after that. I'm halfway between five and six weeks and I'm meeting Protein, Fluid, and calorie goals. Really.
    You are not going to "die young after having so many complications from getting 70% of my stomach removed and losing all those important hormones." All what important hormones? The only hormone you're losing is ghrelin, the hormone that can lead to overeating.
    Buyer's remorse is very, very, VERY common in the first month after surgery, especially for people who have a rougher time than others. I've observed from reading these boards that it's also very common in younger individuals with less life experience who may also have less understanding of how our bodies work. Lack of knowledge can really contribute to fear of the "what if's".
    Don't let that derail you. If you haven't already been in touch with your surgeon about the trouble you're having, call. Now. I don't care if it's the weekend, there is always someone on call 24/7.

    No, you do not "need pizza". Your head is telling you it does, but it lies.
    Do you want to know what would happen if you actually tried to indulge that craving right now? first, you would probably only get down a bite, maybe two. Then it would hurt, like crazy. And then it would come back up.
    You did not do all the hard work you did to have surgery to let your head derail you now. You just had surgery. Your body needs rest, fluids, liquid nourishment (to avoid stressing your very swollen and healing tummy), and some walking.
    Honest, it doesn't "need" anything else. More than likely your head is trying to sell you on all the foods you know you can't even try for a while. Time for your rational side to tell your fanciful side to stop distracting you.
    You can do this. Really.

    I buy whatever I want. I don't cut corners on my bras. The only thing I do make sure of is that if I buy something that I plan on wearing it within a week or 2, or I buy it a size smaller than I fit.
    Life is too short for cheap clothes. I'm not going to punish myself for losing weight quickly. I battle with head hunger all the time. Winning that battle, I deserve whatever I want.
    Don't sell yourself short just because you are winning at weight loss.

    If you haven't worked out in years or with a trainer for years, why are you giving someone else advice and pissing on their plan when they are just getting started? Why not sweep around your own front door before you sweep around someone else's.

    Running in Water is harder than running in sand, since you have the resistance all around you. It is an awesome workout.

    Relax your mind, human growth hormone (HGH) is produced and released from your pituitary gland, far, far from your stomach, no matter how much was removed.

    @@PissiChrissi You're missing part of my plan anyway - I was going to START with Aqua aerobics.. - my end goal is to be able to do an hour of laps at least 4-5 times a week in addition to aqua zumba at least 1-2 times a week.. I have a feeling that will lose the pounds. Also I have an elliptical and I'm not afraid to use - when I get to that point and if I like it - in addition to all those other things. I also have a dog who loves to bike but I haven't been able to do that in quite a while.
    But that said.. I can lose the amount of weight I want doing Water exercise - it will not be all aerobics.. but it can be done and will be done and when I do I'm going to write my surgeon a letter with before and after pics and tell him exactly how I lost the weight and if you'd like me to send you one as well I'll be happy to. But unless you're going to support me and all the other people in this thread who lost a lot of weight due to various Water exercises then just take your negative opinion elsewhere please. It's not needed nor desired here.

    Can you cite some research to back up what you say? Additionally I was not aware morbidly obese people has special personal trainers, what makes them different from a regular personal trainer? Any good trainer should be able to work with people of any size. I think people are getting annoyed with your statements because what your saying isn't supported with proof. I think the idea here is any movement is good movement and its critical people do exercises that don't cause Injury and they are comfortable with.

    If she annoys you, just tell her "no, thank you". You won't be an invalid. You won't likely feel up to driving is all, so plan around that for the first few days. Any reasonably competent teen is plenty enough help.
