I am in a stall too!! I lost 22 lbs since my surgery on October 19, and I have been in a stall for a couple of weeks! I may have broken the stall because I don't weigh now so there is no way of knowing! It made me get crazy mad like you did and my fiancé took my scale and put it in the back of his truck lol so I will find out how much or how little I have lost next week at my dr appt !! You are not alone

so glad you all are here... I have been very frustrated... I had surgery on 11/12 also, I lost 28 lbs pre-op and 15 lbs after ... and nothing for just over a week now... I'm still struggling with getting all the food & Water in....so I guess what I'm going thru us normal ... trying to increase my activity but I have physical limitations so it's a slow process..

It's all part of the process! Embrace the stall. You don't have another choice. They scale will start moving again, I promise. For goodness sakes, HIDE THE scale.< /p>
Also, stop comparing your weight loss to others. Everyone is different. People like me who have 250 TO LOSE will lose weight initially faster that most people with 80 pounds to lose. What everyone needs to realize is that as you get closer to goal, your loss will slow down. Your body will be fighting to keep the extra weight on. Therefore, if you don't have massive amounts to lose when you start, the weight loss will probably seem slower.

I've been stalled for over a week (3 weeks out) and i just measured myself today and i've still lost 14cm in a week (neck, bust, arms, waist, hips, thighs). So you're still losing, your body is just adjusting to your large losses.

I am at week 3 and completely stalled. I was happy with my initial loss of 25lbs but it's hard now that there is no movement on the scale. So glad that I knew this would happen, as otherwise this would be (even more!) frustrating.
Just need to stay positive and keep to the plan layers out by my physician.

It is quite normal. I had surgery on 11/20 and have experienced it as well. We just had a major surgery and our body is in recovery mode. Just stick to the plan and you will start dropping weight soon.

    @@Babbs is absolutely right.
Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process. No one loses weight at a constant, steady, or predictable rate.
If you intend to lose a large amount of weight, you will experience stalls periodically.
Just follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids, take your Vitamins and supplements as directed, and exercise.
If you are going to let the numbers on the scale dictate how you feel, then consider weighing no more than once a week or less often.
    Embrace the Stall!

Completely normal. It's a normal, necessary part of the process. Every one of us has gone through it around that time. It even has a name: "The Dreaded 3 Week Stall". Hang in there, work your program, and it will pass! It won't be you're last, either
    Here comes the science:
A "stall" a few weeks after surgery is not uncommon, and here's why.
Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs. of Water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when a patient is not getting in enough food, the body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. Then when 2 lbs. of glycogen is used a patient will also lose 8 lbs. of Water that was used to store it -- voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs. that most people lose in the first week of a diet.
However, when the body stays in a caloric deficit state the body starts to realize that this is not a short-term problem. Then the body starts mobilizing fat from adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But the body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. As it puts back the 2 lbs. of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs. of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though the patient might still be losing energy content to their body, the weight will not go down or it might even gain for a while as the retention of water dissolves the glycogen that is being reformed and stored.

The first few weeks are honestly just about surviving & getting enough fluids in. I think most people have a touch of buyers remorse in that first week. I remember how difficult it was emotionally to be going through sugar, carb & caffeine withdrawal all at once, plus losing my tried & true coping mechanism of eating my feelings away. It is s rough time! I promise though, it gets way better. Every day you will heal a little more. The scale will start really loving & you will see the payout of your hard work

I think its just a reaction to not having any solid food. It's probably just head hunger. Once you're able to eat something that requires chewing you'll feel better

Hunger all the time and stalls, try eating more than you should and see how much of a sleeve failure you get . I bet you will know very quickly it is other things you are going through other than the sleeve failure

I think a lot of people have that worry in the early weeks. You are on liquids and as long as you aren't having problems swallowing, they pass straight through so you feel like you have no restriction. Plus you still feel a lot of head hunger, because you haven't learned that you can't eat like you used to. You see a pizza commercial on TV and you want pizza RIGHT NOW. Even though there is no physical way you could actually eat it.
As for stalls, it is VERY common to have a stall around week 3. It's even called the "Week 3 Stall". There are lots of posts about it. Stalls happen. The key is, stick to the plan. As long as you stick to the plan, eventually the scale will start moving again. Sometimes it just takes the body a little time to adjust and adapt.
Through this whole process, patience is vital. There will be MANY times when you are frustrated and anxious and the only "cure" for whatever is bothering you is time. The scale never moves as fast as you want it to, but eventually you will get where you are going if you stick to the plan.

I was the same way. I even called the doc to make sure he actually did the surgery lol Once you start eating actual food you will feel the restriction and won't be able to eat much. Best of luck to you!

Congratulations - you are having an easy recovery! It's entirely normal for liquids to go straight on through with minimal restriction - that's what liquids do, lol. Some people have a harder time with them at this point because they have more significant inflammation in their stomach, making things flow through like a pinched soda straw, but that resolves as the swelling goes down. That's why we are told to sip, sip, sip our liquids, to avoid them coming back up if things are inflamed down there. If not, enjoy.
My wife was very restricted on liquids at this stage, while I had virtually none and was similarly concerned about it - we were simply at opposite ends of the range of normal outcomes.
Liquids don't always satisfy hunger all that well, and also, excess stomach acid can feel like hunger, so a PPI or other type of acid reducer is usually prescribed early on - if you are not on one, ask your surgeon about it.

I went through the exact same thing! I even asked my husband if he was sure the surgeon even did my surgery! No, there's nothing wrong with you. During your surgery, some nerves were severed when cutting out part of your tummy. Until they heal, you may not feel a sensation of fullness. ( I didn't. I felt terribly hungry, too). Try to focus on taking small drinks at a time, measure all your food or liquids to make sure you're getting the right amount. Your tummy is still healing. This part isn't easy, but it will get better. You've got this!!

Thanks, and of course I have a therapist, and I plan to fully disclose at our appt on Tues (first time I will see her since the surgery). I don't think I could talk about it so freely if I didn't. I mean, look, I'm not talking about like a large amount of food here. And, I mean, it's not like I can be the first person experiencing this, right?!
Also, don't worry about me physically because I totally would never let myself get that out of control. Right, though I get what ya'll are saying, and thank you for your concern.

Oh yes. Especially at 4-days post op, you are still battling head hunger big time. I remember sitting there in my recliner, just a few days post op, with the TV on thinking that I never noticed how many freaking food commercials there are! And driving places, how many fast food places there are. It was very irritating! After a while, as the cravings died, that stuff looked less and less appealing. There are still days for me (now 2 years post op) where I all I can do is think of food. But for me, at this point, those days have more to do with outside stressors and my mind/body wanting to revert to my old coping mechanism of numbing the stress with food. So, I guess the moral of the story is that I think what you're experiencing is totally normal for the stage you are at, and that it will get way better as you stick to the program, but there will still be days - even years post op - where you are still fighting the good fight. :-)

Four years ago today I had no idea how my life was about to change. On October 28, 2011, at age 58, I was wheeled into an operating room in Frankfurt, Germany, and like many of the readers here, a big part of my stomach was removed and a huge hope for the future replaced it.
My hope for a healthier life — where I looked and felt better, had more energy, and could move easily — not only came true but far exceeded even my wildest dreams.
It seems only appropriate on this anniversary date that I look back on these last four years and tell others how grateful I am to have had this shot at such a magical life. I know there are still many people who read my blog who have not yet had the surgery, and it’s important to me that this might be the push they need. That this is not just another diet that will last a few months. I’m living proof that you can have this surgery and four years later live life as a normal-weight person without dieting.

It is all the IV fluids and swelling from the surgery, totally normal! I came home heavier by several lbs... like 6 or 8 lbs heavier! I don't really remember now, but do know that it dropped off a little each day and by the end of the first week I was several lbs lower than surgery weight.
