  1. First class was April 1st. Surgery day is next week September 30th. It goes by fast tho! Believe it or not!
  2. Ive had 2! So I know lots about sleep studies. They are gonna hook you up to a bunch of wires on your head, arms, and legs. Usually there are bands around your chest to monitor breathing. And then you just sleep. Like normal. Just kidding I slept like crap the second time I had one. There is stuff up your nose and I had someone snoring in the room next door (my first one was actually really peaceful and I feel asleep right away). If you have sever sleep apnea (stop breathing more than 30x per hour) they usually come in and put a CPAP on you. They didn't come put one on me but I still have moderate sleep apnea and they gave me a CPAP for it. I was also waking up every two hours pretty much on the dot before I had my CPAP but now I love it and can't sleep without it.
  3. I'm kinda in the same boat. My surgery is in 4 days. They are taking my gallbladder with my bypass. I'm also allergic to fruits and veggies. So figuring out what I can and can't eat after this surgery is going to be interesting. Pretty much leaves me with protein. I think I'm ok with that
  4. The wait. It always feels like you have to wait for something. If it's not a six month diet plan, it's your psychiatrist going on vacation and having to reschedule 3 weeks later. Or it's waiting for an insurance response. Or waiting to find out "the date". But once you get it it goes by fast. I've been at this for over 7 months and my surgery is 4 days away. I promise there is a light at the end of the pre op tunnel.
  5. I chose the same path. Honestly, I've had more backlash by other wls patients for not keeping my story a secret than I've EVER had from ANYONE for putting it all out there. Yes, I've had some negative comments but for every negative remark I've had about 5x the support. If I never gave people the opportunity to support me I would probably have no one at this point. The few people I initially planned on telling weren't nearly as supportive as the people I NEVER expected to support me. My family is coming around (I'm the only one in my family with a weight problem so it's hard for them to understand)But I'm making the right decision for me. I want people to know that what I'm doing is a VALID form of weight loss and hopefully I can inspire someone who feels like there are no options for them like one person did for me. The only reason I am even here right now is because one person put their story out there and it happened to show up on my Facebook wall. Telling my story is my way of paying it forward! Other WLS patient shamed you? WTH!?!?!? You'd think they'd be the most understanding. My philosophy is shame away. Why? I use it as fuel on the days where my ass doesn't want to get out of bed or hit the pool. I see those very few comments and say **** that and hit the pool twice as hard. I've always been the, knock me down 9 times, and I'll get up 10 times. My mom is supportive but nervous. I'm her oldest son, and dad passed in the late 1990's. So she worries, but she wants me to get healthy and live again. You keep kicking ass!! Take it one day at a time, and the haters... Well they can pound sand! Yup I've been told that I'm "asking for attention" and looking for "drama". I've also heard that I am "wrong" for throwing my personal business out there. That this is too much of a private manor to be discussing with others. (Which I totally understand but it's my choice?) Bunch of stuff. I get frustrated a lot when I accept and respect people's decision to keep their surgery a secret but I can't get the same respect back when it comes to being public with my story. I have a YouTube channel, it's on my Facebook, and I'm on tons of bariatric websites/forums. I am not hiding it from anyone. I specifically wanted to be open about my story because things I went through to get me to this point in my life. No regrets. I can't wait for my surgery! Less than 5 days away!

  7. I have it. I don't think it has a taste of smell. I put it in soup. Applesauce (unsweetened). Crystal light. Oatmeal. Sugar free pudding. Broth. Anything liquid I add some in. Even if it's not a full scoop I always add some.
  8. I made a weight tracker thing that's similar. It's on a painted canvas. There's two of them but this is what the first part looks like . But I think I will make a vision board next!!!
  9. Thanks every one. I'm now on day 9 and I feel 100 times better. I think I was just going through serious withdrawal. I feel really good now and I don't have to worry about work anymore until after surgery. The only thing I struggle with now is getting tired really fast but at least I'm not dizzy or nauseous anymore!
  10. Honestly I just put enough in so it blends well. 1/4-1/2 a scoop. In drinks I will put more.
  11. Where at in Colorado!? I use to live there. I go back every 3 months to visit my boyfriend but I totally get what you mean by planning in having the same problem! My surgery is next week and I don't think I will have anything to get me through the winter, which is bad because I live in Minnesota
  12. Isopure unflavored is the best I put it in everything. Water. Crystal light. Soup. (I'm on my liquid diet right now) it goes in applesauce, literally anything that's liquid it goes in for me.
  13. We have the same surgery day! I wouldn't try to look at it as you "can't" eat those things ever again, I would look at it as you "shouldnt" eat those things. I'm having the rny so there's a possibility that I can't eat those but I try to see it as I don't need those things in my life anymore because they got me to where I am now, and I'm not happy! Ice cream isn't worth the sleep apnea and acid reflux I have now. I would rather be able to DO things in my life, like go hiking or fit on roller coasters than be able to eat cake again. You just have to find new things that make you feel good instead of food. It's way easier said than done but I'm sure it will be worth it! Best of luck to you! It will all work out! If you ever need to talk I'm always here to listen!
  14. "Weight loss surgery is for people who actually NEED it" ..... Ummmm yeah. Me? "Well I'm obese too" ..... Said by my size 8 friend "It's all about will power and clearly you don't have it" ... Cuz 6 months of education, a change in lifestyle, 2 week no cheating liquid diet, months of support groups, and regular exercise isn't willpower? "I can see your losing weight so why do you need the surgery" ... Because losing 10 pounds on a liquid diet isn't losing the 130 pounds that I need to be healthy. I can't just be on a liquid diet forever. "Just try paleo it worked for me, I wish I woulda got you to try it sooner so you wouldn't get this surgery" ... Actually I'm allergic to fruits and veggies. The majority of that diet will literally kill me. Also, your not my super hero. I don't need you to "save me" from the big bad wls. Lol Most people just say things because they are uneducated. I've learned to just take it and move forward.
  15. My surgery is September 30th. I'm officially halfway through my 2 week liquid diet and I want to be honest. The first 5 days were brutal. I was moody. I felt nauseous. I thought I was going to pass out at times. It was just a dramatic change really quick and my body was not ready for it. But now closing day 8 I can say it's a lot easier. I use to miss the junk but I don't really think of it anymore. I know that I need to do this for the safety of my surgery and for my overall long term success of weight loss surgery so I just do it. the crazy emotions turn into excitement and the days get easier as you start to realize that this will lead to you being healthier. Don't get me wrong. It's hard. It's the hardest "diet" I've tried by far, but living with obesity is a lot harder.
  16. That's amazing! Just search Kirstyn Cotto and you should find my page! I don't know anyone personally who has had the surgery but it's still great to hear all of the success stories. I have bad acid reflux so that was one of the main reasons I chose gastric bypass.
  17. That's awesome! If you ever have any questions about anything feel free to ask!!! I also have a YouTube channel which walks you through my journey to bypass! Obviously I'll have a lot more to post about once I'm a post op but watching other people's experiences is a great way to prepare yourself for yours. There are tons of people on here who share their story and I found it really helpful during my 7 month wait. What made you decide on the bypass?
  18. Hi I'm Kacy! My surgery is September 30th! I'm having the gastric bypass. I'm 22 and welcome to the journey! It's a long and eventful one so learn as much as you can, while you can, because trust me 9 months goes fast! What surgery are you looking at getting?!
  19. I had the same problem my clinic worked around it. My start over date is October first. They got me in for September 30th! It was a close call but I'm very lucky! I would keep bringing it up to them.
  20. I agree. I just want to add this. When I was in high school, a group of kids use to take my food away from me saying they "were doing me a favor". The teasing eventually got worse. It was so bad that when I moved i was so scared to meet new people that I sat in my house and did nothing but eat until I gained almost 100 pounds. I used food the wrong way to cope with the stress of divorce and my mom battling cancer. One day I saw someone on Facebook post a video about someone's gastric bypass journey. I watched it and it led to hours of watching her story. It was ONE person who put their journey out there that made me look into having this for myself. I care about education because I was the quiet person sitting in my house battling my food addiction alone, and was completely unaware that this was even an option for me. Before I heard her story I thought gastric bypass was for 800 pound people trapped in their houses. I thought I was condemned to a body that fought against me every time I changed it. Me speaking about a personal subject is my way of paying it forward. There are a lot of people who don't consider this because they don't know, they hear horror stories from surgeries 30+ years ago, or they know someone who fail. My doctor didn't suggest this. My mom didnt give me the idea. I wouldn't have known at all and I probably would've let obesity kill me because I didn't think there was an option for me. I heard it from someone who didn't care about private or personal information and it changed my life. I knew putting it out there that people will say things back that I wouldn't want to hear. I'm not upset about what she said. I'm upset that I don't know how to respond. But the liver explanation was great. That was definitely what I was looking for.
  21. So I feel like I should explain why I chose to put my stuff on Facebook 1. I chose to be upfront with everyone I know because I shouldn't have to feel guilty about what I'm doing to be healthy. 2. Education. Most people judge what they don't understand. If people don't know about it, see it, or hear about it, weight loss surgery will continue to have the same stigmas it always had. It's a VALID form of weight loss and people don't understand unless they have been there or seen someone they care about go through it. 3. Support. For the two people who have had something negative to say about it with my updates. I have had at least 5 times the amount of support. People who I NEVER thought would be excited for me or happy for me have been asking really GOOD questions to try to see my perspective so they can understand (education). I didn't realize how much support I actually had until I gave people the opportunity to support me. If I wouldve only told the three people I initially planned, I wouldn't have any support. It's interesting how the people who I wanted to support me didn't and the people who I didn't think would, did. I also just moved to Minnesota. I have two friends here. So everyone on my Facebook is important to me because as of right now, that is the extent of my social life. And it's pretty much all of my friends who I had before I moved here. 4. My life isn't "dramatized" on Facebook. She responded with that comment to a post that simply said "I survived half my liquid diet! 7 days down, 7 more to go" 5. What I was hoping for on this post. First, is it common to lose weight in the preop process. Is it a bad thing? Just because I lose twenty pounds doesn't mean I can lose 100+. But do most people lose weight during the pre op phase? Second, how do you respond to negative people. Because even if you only tell a few people, someone can be negative about it. Third, how do you explain to the people that are close to you who see you losing weight in the preop process that you should still press forward with the surgery. She's not the first person to say something like this. My employer knows (had to take off work and needed to let me have Protein drinks on the floor so I couldn't exactly keep it a secret from him). He made a comment that I'm losing weight and "do you really need the surgery", so how do you respond?
  22. My surgery is in 8 days. Tricare was really quick on the approval process (I was approved about a month ago). The only thing that sucked was they sent my approval letter in the mail. Apparently tricare hasn't caught up with technology. No one sends things in the mail like that anymore! Lol I got my approval letter before my hospital did so I emailed it to them (my hospital wouldn't schedule my date until they had the letter from tricare)
  23. I think what I struggle with the most is I can't exactly say she's wrong. 1. She's been obese before. If she was some skinny girl who had no idea what it's like to be overweight, she wouldn't have a leg to stand on 2. She has every right to feel the way she does about wls because that's her experience with it. She watched her mom get sick and eventually fail. I can't say she's wrong when that's what she knows and sadly it does happen. I don't think she knows that's there's more success than failure. And wls done years ago are not the same as what they are now. Just because it's her moms experience doesn't mean it will be mine. Here's what really bothers me. I posted my entire journey on FB and that was my choice and honestly I'm glad she said something about it because I'm sure other people think the same thing. I have been losing some weight on my own. I lost 17 pounds from the beginning of my program over 6 months ago. So me being excited, shared that with people. So people see that I'm losing some weight but don't understand that 6 of it was liquid diet and the other 11 was following the guidelines my nutritionist laid out for me to be successful after surgery. So does just because I'm losing weight now mean I shouldn't have the surgery? I mean I don't think so. But how do I respond to that. How do I educate people on how this works. She isn't the first person to say things like this. But I never know how to answer the question. I wanted to share my story so it changes the stigma of wls. I'm not giving up the surgery. I know I will be successful. But I feel like losing some weight doesn't mean I can lose the other 100+ pounds I have. I will admit also that I am on the smaller side of this and my photos do really well at hiding my weight.
