  1. I was just curious on what has changed for everyone food wise after surgery. For example, before surgery I LOVED chicken and scrambled eggs. Now my pouch hates them. I don't get sick but it's extremely uncomfortable and I've tried a lot of ways to get it to go down but have had no luck. So what did you like before surgery that you don't like after? Just curious to see other peoples responses.
  2. I don't like the word cheating either. That's why I put it in quotes. I just figured that was the most relatable word to use. I know I'm not ready to reach outside the boundaries right now. I just want to know how do you know when you are ready to. I dumped eating apple sauce that followed my rules. I'm terrified of dumping. I dread eating right now and I feel like I'm developing a fear of food and fear of breaking the rules. I would honestly just rather not eat. I only do it when I have to. I just want to know when that goes away and when eating will feel natural and not feel so methodical. I measure and weigh everything. Is that what most people do?
  3. So I'm on here all the time. I see a lot of post about people "cheating". Here's the thing. I'm one month post op and I've NEVER cheated. I eat 3 times a day. Protein first (usually that's the only thing I eat). Everything has less than 10g of fat, 10 grams of sugar, and I shoot for 15-25g of protein per meal. I know a lot of people who "have sips of wine" or "try taste" of things they shouldn't have. But I don't. I don't know if it's anxiety. I'm terrified of dumping. I don't want to fail this. I've lost 47 pounds and I just want to do this right. BUT everyone says it's ok to have a treat every now an then. Or go out to eat. Or not go to the gym (I work out 5 days a week now). Even my nutritionist. They said they don't want us to completely cut everything out of our lives but learn to moderate and make better choices. But I'm terrified that if I do I'll lose control. So question. When is it ok to "moderately" indulge? Is it normal to be so "by the book"? I don't think I'm getting enough protein in and my mom says I should add one more "meal" to my day (I can take like 2 bites of soft food so I'm probably barely getting 500 calories a day)? But my program says eat 3 times a day so I don't every snack, but should I since I work out so much? I'm so proud of myself for not cheating but is it a bad thing that I don't ever test the waters?
  4. I had my surgery a month ago and I have used it once since surgery. My sleep has been terrible. I wake up every four hours like I use to before I had my CPAP but using my machine hurts. I get air in my stomach and I bloat and it's super uncomfortable.
  5. I didn't have to write a letter but my doctor wrote me a letter of medical necessity when they submitted my package to tricare.
  6. I'm Minnesota too!Me too!!! Which part? Southwest metro, near Minnetonka, Eden Prairie, etc.. You? Elk river is quite far for me, about an hour. But thanks for the offer!! I live in Woodbury. I don't think that's too far? I've only lived here for a couple years so I'm not sure where everything is. Lol
  7. I'm Minnesota too!Me too!!! Which part?
  8. Mac an cheese. And I honestly don't miss it. It made me feel terrible. I would love me some spaghetti right now tho! And dinner rolls!
  9. Yup! That thing was my life saver. If it's on right it feels so good!
  10. I haven't had a period in two years. Well I started one yesterday. I'm three weeks post op. Mine is pretty much the same. Thick. But mine were like that back when I had a period. My doctor said its just the hormones adjusting. As your body changes rapidly your hormones have a hard time keeping up and staying balanced. It takes awhile but it should level out and become more normal.
  11. I had my surgery on the 30th to! It's interesting that someone said u need two comorbitites. When I talked to tricare they said if you had a bmi of 40 you didn't have to have any comorbitites. I had 2 comorbitites (sleep apnea and acid reflux) and a 40 bmi. I also didn't have to do a 6 month weigh in with a pcp. In fact I only saw my pcp once and that was after I was approved (I needed a pre op physical done by her). I saw a nutritionist 4 month in a row because of my programs requirements and I was approved within a week. My program was more vigorous than tricare was. The only hard part about tricare was every time I called them I got different answers for the same question I had called about 2 days before. I was nervous about the approval but I had no problems. The only part that got frustrating was my insurance lady from my program called tricare to ask for an update on my claim and they told her it was approved. But they sent my approval letter in the mail ???? come on tricare. No one mails anything anymore. I couldn't get my date until the hospital had a hard copy of my approval letter.
  12. I did. I had tricare standard tho I don't live close enough to a base to have prime which was not cool because I had 20-25% copays
  13. Saturday night I went through that. I probably should have gone to the ER. I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't see straight. I felt like I was hit by a bus. My mom had to keep me away and make me drink every three minutes for a couple hours until she would let me sleep. It was scary honestly. Dehydration is a constant battle for me. Up until yesterday I was barely getting 16oz in. And I'm three weeks out. I got a lot of protein water and that's pretty much all I can stomach. If it ever gets like what it was that night I'm going to the hospital. I also found out that when I'm dehydrated it's harder to get food in. Especially in the morning. So now I wake myself up throughout the night to take sips so it's not as rough in the morning.
  14. So I am three weeks post op. And so far I've lost 43 pounds. 22 before surgery. 21 after surgery. Well today was my first day back at the gym. Before surgery I use to work out all the time but when I started my wls program I kinda cut back A LOT. I didn't go at all for about a month before surgery. Today I ran my fastest mile EVER. On my FIRST day back at the gym in about 2 months when I use to go EVERY OTHER DAY! I couldn't even come close to a 15 min mile but today I did it in 14! I just can't believe I did it. I had no expectations going back to the gym. I told myself I would take it slow but instead I let my body tell me what it could do and it paid off! It's like the healthy me who's been trapped inside all this fat for years was screaming at me "LOOK WHAT YOU CAN DO KACY"! I seriously wanted to cry. I've worked so damn hard for years to manage my weight. And it blew my mind how big of a difference 40 pounds makes when it comes to exercise. I loved working out before. But now I love it more because I know it's actually helping me this time. In the past I worked out for months and never lost a single pound. Now I want to keep pushing myself and KNOWING it's going to pay off now because of the surgery just makes me so excited to go back to the gym. On cloud 9 right now
  15. I was the same way. I'm three weeks out as of today. If u haven't had nausea up until now it's a good chance it could be dehydration. At least that's what mine was/is. I only get nauseous if I haven't been doing good on protein and water.
  16. I can totally relate to this! It's like they see something that you are using and they just take it the moment they can! I went to the bathroom. Was gone MAYBE a minute and holly stole my heating pad!
  17. I have a 65 pound lap dog lol. I understand your concern. I'm 3 weeks out and I've just tried to set barriers so she doesn't jump on me. She's a big baby so she likes to cuddle in my lap. When I came home from surgery she would sit in front of me and cry because I wouldn't let her in my lap.
  18. I'm three weeks as of today and I started work two days ago. I'm exhausted. I don't think I'm ready to be working honestly. I just don't have the energy yet and I'm still trying to switch to soft foods so I have to be careful with eating. it's harder to focus on eating and getting Protein in when I'm worried about rushing around to classes and catching up on school work. Then turning around and running to work. It's just a lot. I wish I woulda took longer off.
  19. That's normal. I had one too. I actually had 2. One internal and one under the skin near my belly button. I'm three weeks out and it's starting to go away. I saw my surgeon last week and said its pretty common from the instruments and it should go away. It doesn't hurt anymore for me but it was pretty sensitive. My internal one on the other hand really hurt for awhile.
  20. Where is it? If you don't mind me asking
  21. They never "gave" me a goal but we talked about what was a healthy weight for my height and size. He said anywhere from 130-155 is where he would like to see me. So I set an initial goal of 135 (I use to weigh that much when I was a competitive swimmer). But now I think I want to set a range and not a specific number. If I'm anywhere from 135-145 I'll be happy. Everyone kinda finds their own "sweet spot" where they can maintain their loss.
  22. It depends on the program. I had to have mine 6 weeks out. In that time I had to have a two week liquid diet, pre op testing done (another set of labs, EKG, ultrasounds, ect.), had to attend a pre op information class, and have a pre op physical done by my regular doctor. It just depends. But it goes by fast! It will be here before you know it!
  23. I also had a lower bmi. I believe it was a 37.9 on surgery day. My start weight was 257. But I lost 22 pounds preop and ended up being 235 on surgery day. I'm now 215, a little over two weeks out and Ive started a stall already. I was lucky to lose a lot right away but now I think it's going to be slow and steady from here on out.
  24. Someone showed me this chart and it helped me keep my expectations in check.
  25. I haven't talked to her recently. I've only been having this problem the past two days. I've been able to get Protein in and my puréed food down until the day before yesterday. It was really random. I just couldn't keep down the protein shakes and they made my stomach make weird repulsive noises then I would get extremely nauseous. They made me super uncomfortable. Before surgery I was extremely lactose intolerant but I was so desperate to get protein in I drank milk and it went down easy with no problem. So I wanted to try powder and milk because at this point I just need something. Last night got so bad I woke up my mom at 2am and had her take me to a gas station to get protein Water. I was so dizzy. I was about two minutes from going to the ER. I know now it was dehydration. I actually got down the protein water. My mom stayed up with me all night and kept me awake to drink it all and I felt a lot better. And today it's been easy again to get protein shakes down and food. Idk what happened two days ago that started it but it was really scary.
