Congratulations to you all for such amazing weight loss. 10+ pounds a months I AMAZING!!! Don't forget we are all different (ages / muscle composition / resting metabolic rate / exercise intensity etc). Despite that thought I will be SUPER happy if I continue to lose 10 pounds per month. To me, that is a more sustainable, healthy weight loss that means I may not lose any hair!!!!
Well done and stay determined. You are doing GREAT!!

Thanks for you your replies. I thought I should post so that anyone reading this at a later date can be assured that light is at the end of the tunnel :-). Today I weighed in at 175 which is about 5 pounds lighter than the day i posted this!! So yes, it was Water weight and my loss is still continuing. YAY. Just proves that stalls are in fact real, and as long as you are creating a calorie deficit your body will respond..... EVENTUALLY :-).

@@YumiMumi, I'm just a week behind you, I had my bypass on April 29th and I'm experiencing the same issue with the slow loss and early hunger. I've been reading a lot and posting about portions to find out what is wrong, I have an appointment with my NUT on Wednesday, I will let you know how it goes.

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. If you intend to lose a significant amount of weight you can expect to experience stalls.
Just follow your program, make sure you are getting in all of your Protein and fluids, take your Vitamins and supplements as directed, and exercise.

The stall is indeed normal and necessary. Also keep in mind: if you're following your plan and eating a calorie deficit every day, no way is that fat you've gained. Much more likely that it is 2 pounds of Water weight. Sometimes I gain like 5 pounds of water weight at various stages before, during, and after my period. Then is goes away and the stall breaks. Hang in there, try not to obsess about it, and focus on taking care of yourself. It will break.

YumiMumi got a reaction from sammywammy in Stomach aches/ 45 days post op
HI Sammywammy, I'm 5 months out and promise you it does get better, albeit slowly!! Along my journey I have experienced stomach aches, shocker tummy rumbles, terrible (sorry tmi) smelly wind, PLUS many trips to the bathroom , nausea, stopping on the side of the road to vomit and the odd occurance of dumping. I still sometimes eat something (or a combination of foods) that makes me feel queezy or that sends me to he bathroom in a hurry. The first year is trial and error, and everyone is different about what they can tolerate. Some weeks it feels like Im back to square one and can barely get anything down, then the next week Im eating like a horse (well a small horse thats had GBP ). I now have some "safe" foods that I fall back on. You will find yours in due time.

You're 7 weeks out. Relax. You've done well. You didn't gain your weight over night. You wont lose it over night either. Wait until you're 6, then 10 months out. Your hunger and appetite comes back with a vengeance and the weight doesnt melt off anymore. Im 10 months, almost 11 and I'm in the maintenance stage. Sounds like youre doing everything right!

The slowed loss may be cycle related, or it may just be, as you've said, that you haven't much to lose. Personally I only had quick weight loss for the first month after surgery. I hit my first stall at 4 weeks and have pretty much had to fight for everything since. I lost more in the first 4 weeks than I have in the 3.5 months since.
As for hunger, my full, physical hunger returned at 6 weeks. It is indeed quite uncommon to have it return so early, but it happens. Again, this may be cycle related for you, but it is a possibility that its back for good.

    Hi Fellow GB friends,
well today I am 7 weeks post op and have lost a total of 30 pounds which I'm super happy about (even though i was a pound heaver this morning)!!
Just wondering when your weight loss slowed though? I don't have as much as some folk to lose, AND I'm 40ish so I expect my loss to be slower, but I have noticed over the past couple weeks my loss has slowed (last week only about 1.5 pounds). It coincides with the increase in variety and volume I can eat now without feeling sick.
PLUS the last few days I have been crazy hungry all the time. Yes, i have had my period so wonder if its that, but I haven't felt this type of hunger since prior to surgery.
Up until this past week, the weight was just coming off by itself as I didn't always fell very well or couldn't eat much....
    Anyone experiencing similar?

During your journey you will hit a stall or two. Just make sure you are meeting your Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements and also do at least 30 minutes of walking each day (or equivalent) exercise.

YumiMumi got a reaction from jccanada in Food getting stuck... for hours!
@@jccanada happens to me too - I'm 6 weeks out today. It usually only happens to me though when I have forgotten that I need to chew my food until it is like paste in my mouth. All i can say (which I say to myself every day!) is slow down when eating and chew thoroughly until its more like the food you ate during soft phase. I feel that if I applied this rule I could pretty much eat anything i wanted other than those foods that would make me dump (so far only mild dumping on sweet wheat cookie and sweeter style yoghurt and some juices).
One of the issues (if you can call it that) I have right now is that I serve myself what I think is a small bowl or plate of food and still only get 1/4 way through it. I guess that is a good thing :-)

Well done! Finding high Protein foods to eat that sit well during the fist few weeks post op is really challenging.
I pureed Lamb stew - definitely not as good as the real thing but still, much more satisfying than another Protein shake.

Im same as you 2.5 weeks post op. struggling a bit with choices but am sticking to 1/2 to 3/4 cup meal once or twice a day and shakes or Soup for rest to get Protein up. All depends on how my tummy is feeling....
So far Ive tried lightly scrambled egg, roughly pureed chicken, pureed lamb stew, mashed up meatballs with a sauce, mashed fish, mashed potato, all were fine.... I have also had a rice cracker thing with a slice of cheese on it. The rice crackers melt in your mouth and the cheese is very soft.
    What have you been trying?

YumiMumi got a reaction from Gaylene Davison in Eating after GBP ..... Concerns about failing
Im 2 weeks post op. I had my band removed 4 months ago and then a GBP 15 days ago. I've lost 20 pounds and my BMI is 33 and I'm over 40 yrs old. I'm very pleased.
I learnt to eat around my band... slider foods, eating slowly (but kept eating), eating higher calorie softer foods that were easy to get through the band etc. Unlike you, I gained back 40 pounds of the weight I lost (lost 70 in all). Trust me, it is A LOT easier to gain weight back with a band than with a bypass.
Right now its super hard for me to get in all my Protein, Water etc in. I have to be super careful about what I eat (I'm on mushy diet now) as some things just don't "sit right". Day by day I am learning what my new anatomy will allow me to digest without discomfort. I am still not able to consume more than 600-800 calories per day - some days less if what I have eaten makes me feel too full and ooky :-). From what I hear this continues for several months as your body adjusts to its new plumbing :-). Further to that, I look at food and WANT it, but the body says Noooo :-)
With my limited two weeks of experience with the GBP I can tell you it feels entirely different..... you will eventually eat more whole foods but smaller portions and not want any more for hours. I think that is a much more sustainable eating pattern than soft or liquid foods.
    Good luck :-)

YumiMumi got a reaction from jccanada in When did you start to exercise?
Thanks everyone, I've certainly not been doing as well as you guys!!! I'm 2 weeks post op and have just been pottering around the house and walking up to the street to get milk most days! My first week post op was pretty damn awful - I'm not sure I could have found my way to the mailbox let alone walk 5 miles!! I'm a band to bypass revision and had quite a lot of scar tissue dug out of me too so not sure if that has slowed my recovery a little too?
I have been using my Fitbit to keep track of my steps and trying to get 500 more in every day to ensure an increase in activity level every day. I return to work next Tuesday and don't want to be taking naps at lunch time in my car LOL
Well done to you all though - pretty awesome effort considering what your bodies have been through...... And congrats on all of your weight loss - simply amazing!!

@mmy I'm so SO sorry you have had this experience, how traumatic. I think that it was borderline negligent of your surgeon to discuss changing procedures with you on the day of surgery rather than allow you the time to think it over. Having said that, I too have read that the sleeve can be less effective in some circumstances, but I think the level of complication for both procedures is similar - just different.
I think what is important for you now is to focus on the future. I KNOW how hard that is. I am 2 weeks post op gastric bypass (revision from failed band taken out 3 months ago). I didn't vomit blood but I did have a very tough first week (see other posts of mine) and on day 3/4/5 had MASSIVE buyers remorse (as a lot of people do).
I can tell you though, that even though it was (and still is some days) a struggle for various reasons (getting enough Protein in, nausea, fatigue, etc), I am now glad I had the courage to do this. I am a similar BMI to you and super happy to be down 20 pounds already. I have a 3 year old and I want him to grow up knowing me as a fit an healthy mother.
I know its hard but hang in there. I suspect you would have been going through "buyers remorse" no matter what procedure you had - sleeve or bypass. But, you have the bypass now so get excited and start visualizing the new YOU.
TRUST ME.... you WILL feel better, and quickly.... both emotionally and physically. Big hugs to you.

YumiMumi got a reaction from KristenLe in Maybe dumping after celery. Vegetables?
I'm only 2 weeks out so am not speaking from experience, rather, from theory :-). I think if you were to perhaps de-string your celery and chop into small pieces and mix with other foods (such as a Protein such as tuna? ) you would be ok. One of my favorite salad recipes is a mango salad, but I guess its more of a salsa. I LOVE it... can eat just that for dinner :-). Perhaps try something like that to slowly start adding back celery to your diet but mix with a Protein so it doesn't hit your intestines as one BIG lump of fiber :-) . Hope this helps and recipe below. YUMMMM!!
    Finely chopped celery
    Finely chopped cucumber
    Finely chopped Tomato
    Finely chopped red onion
Small cubes of a medium-soft white cheese such as goats cheese or light cream cheese
1/2 mango chopped into small pieces
A scattering of toasted pine nuts

I'm with you! I'm at day 13. I have introduced some soft foods and tolerated them all well. I've lost 24 pounds. I have noticed since I've added a few foods.. my loss has slowed down. Maybe the first stall. But grr!
However, mostly all my pain is gone. I too get pains under my ribs and I still seem swollen in my abdomen. I reckon that will go away.
